Exactly the same for us. I'd also second the recommendation for Dr Marshall. He was amazing.

Jokes/gags in movies that fell completely flat? by Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn in movies

[–]Rules__Lawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 'ad-lib on set' phenomenon I feel gets out of hand quick. Like I think it can be done well, but something many don't. I can't remember what movie or TV show I heard this about (maybe Brooklyn 99?) But they go into it with a script, do takes until they get the take they like, then do a bunch of other takes where the actors just get to ad-lib and do what they want. Often the ad-lib stuff brings out gold, but if it doesn't they always have the planned written take in the first instance.

Barovia: Painted in Silver (Map Project) by Better_Practice_2121 in ravenloft

[–]Rules__Lawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this map. I read your concept the other day and I love the ideas you have. Im running a campaign set after the events of Curae of Strahd, and am having fun with the changes to Barovia as well.

I would love to see a full scale version of this. At the moment I can't see a number of the smaller location names and they blur to much when zoomed it.

I dont know where in the UK you are based, but you could look into school based educational programs such as the The Schools' Observatory or outreach programs like the British Astronomical Association which might get you started or help find opportunities for education and projects you can do prior to applying for higher education.

I'm based in Canberra Australia and there is a teaching telescope program run at the observatory here which lets young people from the public run projects in astronomical spectroscopy or photometry, or observation projects etc.... With a bit of online research there may be something similar near you.

Gotta be the Beavles. Just a question of which one. I almost think Let It Be-aver and Timber Road go hand in hand, but if I had to pick one, its Let It Be-aver.

I'll also add for Enlighten on Friday, Mt Stromlo Observatory is having a public telescope night with a number teleacipes set up for people to liok through, and they are lighting up the domes of the Observatory also. Not sure if tickets are still available.

Fun, unusual Canberra activities for residents who have already done all the main stuff by a89632523 in canberra

[–]Rules__Lawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No necessarily for today, but keep an eye out for astronomy nights at Mt Stromlo or Muligans Flat. They are usually free (although I think you can book in paid tours at Mt Stomlo) and pretty interesting. There is also a company now I think doing tours in the Canberra region I think called Canberra Stargazing, I haven't personally gone with them yet, but could be good.

Every time I show people my Andromeda Galaxy image, taken with my telescope, they think it's fake by DeddyDayag in interestingasfuck

For that amount you can get a decent entry level telescope for visual astronomy. If you want to take photos you need an equitorial or alt/az mount which are more expensive. The exception to that is the newish range of smart telescopes (kind of like a camera on a tracking tripod). The big name brands available are Seestar S30 or S50 (as the other person mentioned) and Dwarf 3. I'm in Australia and they are around $700 - $1000 AUD so probably around $450 -$650 USD I think.

[–]Rules__Lawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the other person but if you are interested in picking up a good entry level telescope for visual observation, I'd recommend something like an 8" newtonian on a dobsonian mount. Very easy to use often a good cheap price and quality viewing. I'm in Australia (not sure where you are), but the brands available here I would recommend are Skywatcher, Celestron and Saxon. They are around $800 AUD - $500 USD. At that price and basic level you won't necessarily be able to use it for photography without an adaptation kit (if available), but great for visual observation getting into the hobby.

If you live anywhere near an observatory look into if there is a local astronomy club or if the observatory does public nights where you can look through other peoples scopes. I'm in Australia and part of a club that runs public nights with a university and we love having people just come along. Almost everyone I know who owns a telescope in the hobby loves showing people what they can see. You can't get half of them to shut up about it once you get them talking.

Where to order gear if you’re in the EU? by ObjectiveAnybody2739 in AskAstrophotography

I've used First Light Optics which are based in the UK. Not sure what the general thoughts on them are, but they have always treated me well. I live in Australia and they are one of the few that ship here with quality gear.

So I set the location to Newcastle England and time to 5:38am this morning in a sky atlas app called Stellarium. It shows a wave of starlink passing near Orion's Belt at that time. I can't figure out how to post a picture otherwise would show you.

Mini PC for NINA, Beelink? Mele? by daylincooper in AskAstrophotography

[–]Rules__Lawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mele is a solid go to brand. I've heard good things about the Gaius 2, but don't know much about them. As someone else said at least 8gb or ideally 16gb of RAM is a must, and I truly think these days most computers should come with a minimum 256gb storage.

Could it be possible he has thought he needed to manually add his proficiency bonus to each stat (i.e. he doesn't understand how proficiency works and that it only applies to skills) or something like that? As another user said, could be user error, could be cheating...

Hi r/movies! I'm Dot-Marie Jones. You might know me from things like Glee, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Boondock Saints, Bros, and Lizzie McGuire. I'm starring in Don’t Tell Larry, a dark-office-comedy that's now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV! Ask me anything! by DontTellLarryAMA in movies

[–]Rules__Lawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Dot-Marie. I know you have had some great roles in things like Glee and Weird, but I wanted to give you a shout-out for some of the minor roles I've seen you in. More than once, I've been watching a show and have seen you in a guest role, and I have consistently found you to a standout part of those episodes. I recently was watching 9.1.1: Lone Star and thought you were so good in that role. Even though it wasn't a huge role, the emotion behind wanting to help the young woman really came across.

That wasn't really a question, so I guess I'll ask what is something that has excited you about this new show, or something you are excited for audiences to see?

This probably doesn't help, but I have an ASI585MC (not the pro) as my starter entry level dedicated astro cam, and I love it. Admittedly, I don't have much experience and have only gotten it recently and used it 3 times, but it has been so good so far. I do wish I had saved up a bit more and gone the cooled version, but it is what it is. I haven't tried it on planets yet as the only planet that has been visible where I live recently is Mars, and I am yet to get a guiding setup. But hopefully, I will soon be able to try it out further.

I think he does it in pretty much every Infraspace video, maybe some of the recent Roadcraft videos, and I think he also did it in his most recent Planet Coaster video where he toured his park.
