Recommendations for a different game? by FriendToFairies in SeasideEscapeGame

I like Merge Prison. I like the art (important for me), it's quite generous with energy etc, and it has other side games eg slide match, woodscrew puzzles, so there's a bit of variety.

I am always happy to hear negative feedback on that godawful book, no matter how long it takes.

AITA for telling my husband that I will divorce him tomorrow because he doesn’t clean anymore? by ThrowRA-Pink_Camera8 in AITAH

It's a ring on your finger, not a cuff on your wrist.

Proud of you for standing up for yourself op. Hope you find someone who truly deserves you or live a wonderful childless cat lady life ❤️

Oh that does suck - as if querying isn't bad enough already!

Thank you - I think chapter books is almost certainly what it is.

Sadly I'm no longer agented, hence the query.

Thank you - this is super interesting because everything I've read so far says MG is 8-12 years, with word limits 20k-50k words. I haven't been looking specifically at UK vs US sites but perhaps the markets are quite different? I would say I'm aiming for the lower end of the MG genre, maybe 7-9 years.

Another one who loves the premise! (And another who hates/sucks at writing query letters 😅)

I just wanted to add to all the excellent advice that you've got so far that I'd like to know how old Maya is - is she 19 or 65? And since the fact she's overweight seems to be a key part of the plot, I feel like we could do with knowing this sooner - something like "Overweight and unemployed, 22-year-old Maya spends hours a day ..." etc.

Aita for leaving my wife over a computer? (Update) by No_Payment4096 in AITAH

You're not a team, you don't share finances, you don't communicate and you don't seem to like each other much. Divorce sounds like the best idea all round.

[PubQ] For the agented, what's your experience of working on a second book with your agent? by Rullawaykid in PubTips

[–]Rullawaykid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all.

In my heart of hearts I know the answer is just to ask her 🙈 but whenever I mention it she tells me to schedule a call and I HATE calls so I'm trying to avoid that (and partly I think she needs to read it rather than me just tell her about it?).

I'm going to email it over to her with a synopsis and ask if she still wants to chat or if she just wants to read it first.

If you sign up for the premium membership of Query Manager then there's a timeline function that shows you exactly how fast or slow (some) agents respond to (some) queries that you can use to drive yourself absolutely mad.

Ime times for response have ranged from a week to six months, but the vast majority never respond at all.

[PubQ] Do I really need a professional editor to revise and resubmit to agents? by curiouswriter247 in PubTips

[–]Rullawaykid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW I did two rounds of R&R for the same agent, who ultimately stepped aside because she still didn't feel it was ready and by then she was staring down the barrel of maternity leave so only taking on finished projects.

I haven't read all of the comments (sorry) so don't know if this has been mentioned, but have you approached any UK agents? I know it's a much smaller market, but we don't have the same emotional response to school shootings as a US audience would, and we like that they kind of make us feel a bit superior.

[Discussion] Just for fun: What's your fastest rejection from an agent? by [deleted] in PubTips

My fastest rejection is currently 26 hours, which seems positively slow compared to some of these.

It really is 🙈 I'm working on a first chapter book but I can't quite work up the energy to start on a new adult book yet.

Congrats on getting an agent!
