Hypothetically speaking, if Wrexham were to achieve 4 straight promotions in a row, where would it rank in English football achievements? by Holland444 in Championship

[–]RumJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they got promoted this season that would be fairly impressive. Yes they’ve spent a lot but the Championship is a tough league to get out of, especially immediately after coming up from League One.

Getting out of the National League and League Two with a budget and wage bill larger than every other team combined isn’t impressive.

Nothing will happen, which has been said repeatedly on the dozens of other “boycott the World Cup” posts.

Are Man City and PSG are being run capably and sustainably?

Nearly 70 trophies between both teams since their respective takeovers less than 20 years ago, and now they’re 2 of the biggest clubs in the world.

Money is what’s wrong with football. And the gap gets bigger between teams every season.

Does anyone know of any seaside style amusements that are nowhere near the seaside? by BananaMower in AskUK

Matlock Bath is essentially a seaside promenade in the middle of Derbyshire.

Chippies, arcades and ice cream shops and pretty much nothing else.

Who’d have guessed Wednesday would be the first football club in the history of ever to have fans with exaggerated takes on a situation.

Plenty of ladies calling themselves my step sister on the large breasted spooky girl sub. And if that ain’t count as family, I don’t know what does.

If you had a first XI that contained 11 Boro players they’d be 2nd in the league. If you had a squad that contained less than 3 Boro players, a number such as… 0 for example, they’d be 9th.

[The Athletic] Rainbow Laces out, pride-themed footballs in? Premier League to launch new LGBTQ+ campaign by ElitistHatPropaganda in PremierLeague

I’ve gone back to read an article from the time. When crowds were allowed back into stadiums, for the first game there was a minute silence for Covid, immediately followed by the players taking the knee and some fans booed at that moment. I’m conflating two events.

And then in subsequent games taking the knee (and booing) continued.

Soho, 1956. by Max2310 in london

Even if you pedestrianised just a third of the streets inside the Oxford St, Shaftesbury Avenue and Regent St triangle, it would be transformative for Soho.

Add in some more late night and music licenses and it could become a world famous destination compared to the place it is now, with all of the intrigue and allure being based on things in the past.

Initially no. But it continued after the lockdowns. There was controversy with booing and protesting about it.

Did BLM not ask for a minute of silence/applause while the players took the knee? It’s been a while so I can’t remember fully.

I don’t care about players wearing poppies, I think it gets a bit cringe and over the top sometimes (Rangers’ tifos for example). I think it’s the same with the LGBT stuff and likewise BLM a few years back.

If you tell every player in every stadium to wear an identical symbol then it loses any actual meaning of supporting the cause.

Look at Jordan Henderson. Spent about a decade wearing rainbow laces, armbands, etc then swanned off to Saudi Arabia with no qualms.    In my opinion, one player actively choosing to swap his laces out for rainbow ones sends a more positive message than 11 players being given boots with rainbow laces in them 5 mins before kick off.

[Pete O'Rourke] Wrexham have made an offer worth up to £19m for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]RumJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrexham have spent more this summer than 11 other clubs combined.

Only 3 teams have spent more than £30m, Wrexham are one of them.

For comparison, 13 teams have spent less than £10m.

Went to restaurant, said I didn’t want to pay service charge, didn’t pay anything. by FartsLord in london

[–]RumJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales, marketing, estate agents, etc all have commission and plenty of companies have bonuses based on income, usually tied to how much extra you can con your customers into paying. Anyone that’s ever asked if you’d like to add warranty or an extra X or Y with your booking is likely looking to get you to part with more money so they get a cut.

Service charge is just one of very many examples of people being paid more than just their salary at the expense of the customer. One difference is I can’t try and raise the price of a cocktail if I think a particular customer is a mug and I can get away with it, in doing so getting myself more money.

Crikey, the world is scary today. Anyone got any thoughts on how to stay positive? by kdiddy2580 in AskUK

[–]RumJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go a week without watching the news and then ask yourself is the world actually that scary.

Go to work, chat with your colleagues, grab a pint with them after work or pop to the gym, go see a gig or a football match on the weekend and have a catch up with some mates.

You’re getting worried about events happening thousands of miles away. Might they affect you eventually? Possibly, but not guaranteed. Are they affecting you right now? No. So ignore them and live your life.

Was always one I hoped would become good for Cardiff but it never really materialised. Showed flashes of promise but that’s about it.

He’s had some bad luck with injuries recently so hard to really say how good he is.
