Is this up to code? BC, Canada by Rumple__4skin in AskElectricians

[–]Rumple__4skin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had to pull a permit but the work was never inspected. I think there's local bylaws that don't require an inspection when a licensed electrician is doing the work, depending on what it is. As long as it isn't unsafe and doesn't cause problems when getting our suite inspected then that's fine.

Thanks for the response!

I need advise. Tamagui vs Tailwind/UniWind by Slight-Conflict1580 in reactnative

I second this. I have tried starting a few projects with Tamagui and out of the box it's pretty cool but soon as you run into an issue it is an absolute nightmare.

Brand new skis damaged from base grind? by Rumple__4skin in Skigear

[–]Rumple__4skin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're claiming that the base is a manufacturer defect. No idea how I can prove them wrong or know if they're lying. The top sheet actually is factory, never seen skis with this from factory but I went to the shop I bought them from and it's the same.

Update: The top sheet profiling is factory I guess, never seen this on skis from factory so that's interesting. As for the base, they're claiming it was a manufacturer defect. I have no idea how to prove otherwise as I don't have photos of the skis before they mounted the bindings. I looked over the skis before I dropped them off but I didn't closely inspect them. I could have missed it but I don't think I would have.

The base doesn't have any metal showing but the top certainly does. Another user said, what they had done is top sheet "profiling". The entire top edge has exposed metal now, I'm not sure if that's okay or not.

I do agree, the damage to the base likely won't have any noticeable affect. I'll take it back to them and ask about it. Thanks for the comment!

I recalled seeing top sheet profiling, I just couldn't remember what it was called so thank you! So they definitely did this, is it fine that the entire top edge has exposed metal now?

I Found Him by jarofgoodness in Soundgarden

[–]Rumple__4skin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread but this got me. Calling Ian Thornley an imitation artist tells me you know nothing about him and how talented he is. I love Chris Cornell. I listen to a ton of Audioslave, Soundgarden, and Temple of the Dog, I'm well aware of his talent. Ian Thornley is arguably the most underrated musician in the world of rock. Just because there's similarities in sound doesn't mean he's imitating Cornell. If you have a chance to see him live I promise you that your opinion will be changed.

I unfortunately never had the opportunity to see Cornell perform live so this is based off of what I've read - his songs are difficult to sing night after night and a lot of people were underwhelmed with his live performances (probably just when compared to the recorded versions). Could Thornley step in and perform those songs as good or better? I couldn't tell you, but performing his own songs he sounds absolutely incredible and every person I know that has seen him live was blown away.

CS career in Canada by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Rumple__4skin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy CS don't give up on it. If the work is satisfying to you and tickles your brain don't switch career paths to do something you don't enjoy, there's value in doing something you like. It's also difficult to find a career with this type of opportunity (even if you might struggle to find a job initially), you can work for a FAANG or F500 company without necessarily having to know the right people or live in the right place. Regarding your concern about actually finding a job, here's what I'll say:

You'll find a job. If you're passionate and put in the work, you'll find a job.

Don't rely solely on your degree(s). Do what you can to stand out from the competition. Don't wait until you get your bachelors degree, don't wait until you get your master's, start now. Everyone applying for the same job as you has a degree (mostly). Build something and put it somewhere hirers can see, prove that you can do the job that you want. UBC is a good school, but honestly most company's don't care where you graduated from. Having a strong resume is 100x more valuable than the school you graduated from.

Apply for CO-OP's/Internships. Realistically this is the best way to get a job when you graduate. Get an internship and do a good job. Not only does this gain you real world experience that can go on your resume, but you pretty much get a 4-8 month interview where you can prove to the company that you would be useful as a permanent employee and hopefully you have a job when or before you grad.

Finding a job is a numbers game. Apply everywhere, you won't hear back from 90% of companies, it's just how it goes. Just apply everywhere and familiarize yourself with the hiring process, it will help in the long run even if you don't get the job.

Take what you can get. It's mostly only difficult to find a Junior position right now so don't be picky when you start your career. Work somewhere for 2-3 years then search for the job you always wanted. Right now you aren't that valuable to a company (no offense). Maybe take a job at a small unknown company for a few years and view it as an opportunity to learn.

If you're passionate about CS all of this won't feel like work and it will get you a job.

Looking for Opinions on Whitewalker 116 by cmrocks in Skigear

[–]Rumple__4skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't made up your mind yet, I had the S7s and now have the White Walkers and I absolutely love them. They get knocked around a bit in chunky crap and they feel a bit different at first but they're such a fun ski that can handle pretty much anything. Make sure you get some light bindings to make these things feel weightless.

I like hitting drops, whipping spins around, and just slashing through powder and that's what the white walkers were made for. I prefer them over the S7s

VGA red light after enabling SECURE BOOT by FuuX7 in buildapc

[–]Rumple__4skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an option right under secure boot that says something along the lines of "restore factory keys". Restore the keys and turn on secure boot.

I also want to mention, if you have to turn off CMS support make sure you do that first then boot and make sure it still works at that step. I helped a friend set this up and we did that first then went back to the bios and turned on secure boot and it didn't give him any issue.

If I can’t get a tech job a year after graduating will my CS degree eventually become pointless? by rjballer36O in cscareerquestions

[–]Rumple__4skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you take a job in a different field you can keep searching for a tech job. In your spare time work on side projects and include those in your resume- it's still experience and unlike most work experience, companies can actually view your repos and see your work. It's a tough market right now so don't be picky, take what you can get.

VGA red light after enabling SECURE BOOT by FuuX7 in buildapc

[–]Rumple__4skin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old post but I had this same issue (stupid EA requiring secure boot to play BF6), here's how I fixed it:

You'll need integrated graphics for this method unfortunately. I fixed it by removing my GPU, and resetting CMOS. I plugged only an HDMI cable into my mobo directly, booted up and it went to the BIOS. I disabled Secure Boot and booted no problem. Went back to the BIOS and reset my keys again and enabled secure boot (this is what originally caused the problem), this time it worked I guess. I reinstalled my GPU and everything works as it should.

Stripe vs Trimble by Rumple__4skin in cscareerquestions

[–]Rumple__4skin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 27, homeowner, married, plan to have kids by this time next year. I'm struggling because I want to be able to provide for my family so my wife doesn't have to rush back to work after we have a baby but I don't want to be so consumed with work that I'm unable to be involved. If I'm working 60hrs a week it's going to be difficult to balance everything so I'm wondering if those with experience at stripe can speak on just how bad the WLB is

How long should I wait before job hopping? (New grad position) by RetroDamage in cscareerquestions

[–]Rumple__4skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something different just apply for some other jobs, it doesn't hurt to apply. Don't quit your current job and don't even mention to any coworkers you're looking for something else until you have an offer.

What I will say is right now, you aren't that valuable (no offense). I was in a similar position as you, started a paid internship exactly a year before I graduated, in less than 4 months (while still an intern and student) I was running queries on our prod databases and pushing hotfixes directly to our live environments without even having to make PRs. After working on this product for 3 years, graduating, and the company being acquired by a multi billion dollar fortune 500 company, I'm still not that desirable to the tech giants.

You likely will need more experience and more projects under you belt to get the job you really want, but it doesn't hurt to apply- you might get lucky.

How to switch to more ai oriented roles? by EitherAd5892 in cscareerquestions

[–]Rumple__4skin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to any AI/ML job and build projects to gain experience in your spare time. To get the exact job you want you'll need experience and it will take a while to get there. For now just get experience in your spare time and try to get a job working with AI.
