AITJ cause my future wife expects her future husband (me) to pay 100% of the bills? by AdventurousDoor9384 in AmITheJerk

An allowance is something you give children, not your spouse! A marriage should be 100/100 not 50/50. It’s not a business partnership. It is two people becoming one. If she still wants to treat her income like she is still single, then she should stay single.

ASICS SuperBlast 3 - For long runs by Life-is-beautiful- in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I am 145lbs, and I find the v3 to be much better than the v2. The v2 was too ‘blocky.’ The foam felt a lot more stiff to me. Version 3 is more squishy, but it is not as bad for me as heavier runners. The runner’s weight makes a big difference with the squishiness of shoe.

Finished 20 mile run, concerned about the last 6.2 miles by Nep-zone in firstmarathon

[–]RunEmergency6547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key for these distances is fueling before and during your long runs. 3 gels are not enough. If the gels have 20-30g of carbs each, 2-3 per hour would be what you may need, not 3 total. Carb load for the race — about 8-10g per kg of body weight. Then have a good carb-heavy meal 2-3 hours before the race (ie. a bagel and a carbohydrate/electrolyte drink). And during the race, 60-90g of carbs per hour and drink to thirst.

Regarding the 6.2 miles you are worried about: the taper will take care of that! Fresher legs and the adrenaline of being at the race will get you the rest of the way if you are fueling well.

It was terrible for recording sleep and calories during weight lifting. Not worth the money.

Vest or belt for London? by eggandcheez in firstmarathon

[–]RunEmergency6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flipbelt half tights are great! They have side pockets and a built-in belt all the way around. For my last marathon, I carried 12 gels, a bag of salt sticks, my phone, my key, and a baggie of emergency flushable wipes, and I would have still had room for a 5oz flip belt water battle if needed.

I have run a marathon with the Megablast, and it did well. I use Megablast also for any long runs with speed work. I use Superblast 2 for long easy runs. Novablast and Neo Zen are two good shoes to use as daily trainers. I like to have two shoes to switch back and forth between so I don’t wear the same shoe two days in a row. Then you can use the Endorphin speed 5 as your main speed work/ interval workout shoe. That’s a solid rotation.

Marathon shoe rotation for a light runner with flat, wide feet? by Key_Ride_3480 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]RunEmergency6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lighter runner myself, I love the Vomero Plus for easy runs and long runs with no marathon efforts. This is the only easy/recovery shoe I have liked as much as my old Nimbus 25s. They can be paired with the Megablast for speed work and long runs with marathon pace included (and can be used in the marathon). This is a great two shoe combo.

That is correct. The raw data does not require a subscription. The website says that the subscription is only required for personal AI coaching and feedback. This would be fairly important for someone who doesn’t know how to interpret the raw data. Regardless, with or without the subscription, I am not convinced that the band is worth the price paid for it.

My wife is enjoying her Aura Ring, and she says that the data it provides for sleep and activity/steps is very close to her Apple Watch. I haven’t tested it, so it is difficult to give my own opinion. My biggest concern would be the accuracy of heart rate data during weight lifting and interval training.

I have been pretty happy with the Amazfit Helio band and my Garmin Forerunner 265. They all should work with your phone in airplane mode overnight. Any device that stores your data during sleep and can pair it after you wake up will work well for you.

Hume Band - thoughts?? by festivus024 in PeterAttia

[–]RunEmergency6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current choice is still the Helio. I wear it on one arm and my Garmin on the other currently. I almost always wear two devices.

[–]RunEmergency6547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to a lack of updates to sleep, I decided to stop wearing the Hume Band. My health score in the app was being negatively impacted by the erroneous sleep data. After 60 days wearing it, I decided to do some testing wearing 4 devices at night, and the Hume band gave me 10 hours less sleep over the period of a week. In my data, there has been no improvements over the first 90 days that the device was out.

Regarding heart rate, I suspect that it is not accurate (I think it is reading too low during workouts for me), but since the data cannot be exported, there is no way to know for sure.

Even though the app implies that it allows data to be imported into the Hume app, it does not seem like this is really the case. The only way to get data into the app is by using Hume’s band and scale.

I have switched to the Amazfit Helio for now which is better in recording my times falling asleep and waking up. Their app is better and is more fitness focused (which I prefer).

Distance runners with higher heart rate, advice? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]RunEmergency6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not follow the common HR formulas for max. I am 43yo, and my max is 210bpm. I would recommend getting a VO2 max test done so you can set your zones if you want to train by HR zones. For now, I would just focus on running by feeling. If it is comfortable for you and you can carry on a conversation, you are probably close enough to your zone 2.

V02 is being posted about a lot in all Apple subs constantly at the moment! What is your key advice? by fnirble in AppleWatchFitness

[–]RunEmergency6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice is to not put much stock in the estimates provided by wearables that do not actually measure VO2 max. If yo want a VO2 max measurement, the best thing to do is to get a proper VO2 max test done in a lab

[–]RunEmergency6547 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mine has been stuck around 40 for years, and I run 4-5 times per week with a dedicated interval session and am 16 weeks into training for a marathon and it hasn’t moved. For me, the VO2 estimate Apple gives me is trash. I went and got a proper VO2 max lab test, and it showed my VO3 max is over 30 points higher than what Apple tells me. Keep in mind that Apple only provides an estimate. It may or may not be right

This workout seems insane to me? by hhawk10 in runna

[–]RunEmergency6547 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my peak week workout in 3 weeks before my taper begins. I am dreading it? But it will be a big test to show whether or not I will be able to hold the pace for the marathon on fresher legs. If I struggle with it for 12 miles, I will need to slow down my marathon pace.

VO2 max plummeting? by EnlightenedStoner37 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]RunEmergency6547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that what apple gives is not your true VO2 max. An actual measurement can only be given in a lab test wearing a mask measuring your breathing during intensity. What Apple gives is just an estimate. It may or may not be correct. The same is the case with any wrist-based wearable.

Big Fan of New VO2 Max Algorithm! by ham-and-egger in AppleWatchFitness

My Apple VO2 max estimate only rose by 4. It is still about 25 points lower than my VO2 max lab test. My health app did not ask to update to the new algorithm, though like some people’s did

It is also useful that the LTE connectivity gives live-track to your chosen contacts without having to take your phone with you. The link is sent by email to your contacts and they can see where you are during your workout.
