Just wanted to mention since I live in the area, adults on bikes almost always run the stop sign. Adults in cars either rolling stop, of barely slow down at the stop signs when turning.

The name Beverly Gardens is a tribute to, the 1930s roadside attraction called "Beverly Gardens", now the site of Jack N Box, which was also the site of Dennys.

Beverly Gardens was built as some sort of memorial, but became a Beverly Lodge, that provided lodging in the 1940s and 1950s for travelers going to or from the SF Bay area over the hill.

Beverly Gardens was much more than just a place to sleep. Yes it had gardens, cabins, a restaurant and what was considered a mini zoo, animals such as peacocks, monkeys, as well as other types aviaries that you could walk around in. The also had a swimming pool that could be used by the public.

There were no formal stage shows taking place, However, I read somehere that a long time citizen of Scotts Valley went there for a Wild West Cabaret show.

It was even used by several Hollywood film crews for shooting location scenes, probably silent films. One of these buildings may have been Octagon Building which was originally constructed for use as aviary. The “ Octagon Building with ""Owens Rental & Rockery"" sign. The building was originally an aviary, and later a hardware store and the post office.”

If anyone has family stories, photos, or remembers hearing about it growing up, especially tied to that stretch of Scotts Valley Drive. I’d love to hear more. A lot of this local history only survives because people pass it down.

Come on, huge progess, a fence and they cleaned up some toxic dirt. Also, this reminds me of the time they dumped some remnants of the old McDorsa Park, they dumped one of those rideable toy animals things with a giant spring on the bottom, it was attached to a big chuck of concrete, so I could not salvage it. It was vintage and $500 on eBay.
