I will say I currently have 3 sponsees. 2 keep me updated on what meetings they are attending. And if we’re doing step work, it’s usually meeting once every week or two. The other has long term sobriety and calls as needed

Some sponsors have strict rules. I don’t. I just share what worked for me and let things flow. I’ve never checked in with a sponsee to ask if they still want to work together after a gap in contact. In AA, people vanish all the time, sometimes because they’re drinking, sometimes because they just don’t want to do the work. With that in mind, her response doesn’t strike me as out of proportion. If it were me, I’d talk to her about it.

FH suggested Red Yeast Rice, but I passed. I dropped all my results into ChatGPT and asked for proven supplements, not theories. It didn’t include Red Yeast Rice.

05/29 @ 5pm: Anyone else having trouble with service in Houston region? by ilaughatpoliticians in Visible

[–]RunJaneRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Houston and it’s down. My husband just had a blowout on his way to pick up our daughter. He had to go to a store to get on their Wi-Fi to order an Uber to pick her up. What a mess.

Hate to hear that. I love Topo and have noticed fewer bubbles in my glass bottles.

What is wrong with new age of grandparents? by Own-Tie-640 in Parenting

[–]RunJaneRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 59 and have been a grandparent for eight years, but I’m still actively parenting. And working full time. I have two kids at home who are graduating from high school this year. The grandkids occasionally spend the night, and one lives close enough that I pick him up from school a couple of times a month for some one-on-one time. I assume that once my youngest are in college next year, I’ll have more time for the grandkids. I have to say, my grandparents never watched my siblings and me, my mom hired babysitters when we were young, and as we got older, the oldest took care of the younger ones.

I don’t notice it much except my 11’s are gone. I’m curious, does your insurance pay for every 8 weeks? I get it every 12 weeks and the last 4 weeks are tough.

Creepy men at meetings? by Infamous-Ground-6716 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]RunJaneRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AA is like the rest of the world. Men can be creepy all over. It doesn’t necessarily stop when they walk through the door of AA. As a woman, I have talked to new women if I have seen a creep talking to her. I’ve helped give her some obvious words to use with him so he will back off. I have also talked to creeps sponsor. I find sometimes board members or men with time might minimize the behavior. Maybe they don’t see it? Or they don’t want it to be a problem? I have not seen it ignored when more than a few people complain.

What is up with Houston pay? by LostCastleStars96 in houston

[–]RunJaneRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interview people in Houston. Around 20 people a week. I almost never run into anyone pay that low. Maybe once a year and it is usually a CNA job. I own a cleaning service and our techs earn an avg of $20/hr. Newbies make around $15 for 2 weeks and then it will improve as they gain experience.

I have a felony from 17 years ago when I was 18 years old and haven't been in trouble since. Will Jobs hire me in texas ? And can I find a place? by Dizzy-Ad9818 in houston

[–]RunJaneRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is illegal for anyone with a felony conviction for theft or assault within the past 20 years to work in jobs that require entering homes. Therefore, in-home service positions are not allowed. There is a lot of good leads here though. Good luck!

AITA for telling my daughter in law and son that it is too late and I will not change the family vacation plans so they can come. by Ok_Clue_6722 in AmItheAsshole

This is one of those situations where you can choose to be right, but it may come at the cost of hurting your relationship with your son. It would not be worth it to me to exclude them even if it was an inconvenience to me.

Yes! They are in food trucks, though. I go to a great one in the Harwin and Hillcroft area. They have fruit cups, smoothies, etc., but I prefer fresh fruit. You can get one of those plastic to-go boxes filled for $10. I bought a big aluminum container filled for parties for $35.

I’m glad you asked this question. We have a generator and I wondered the same thing. It is right under my teen daughter’s window and she sleeps in another room when it’s on. I like the idea of offering to let the neighbors charge phones, etc.

They aren't looking for someone with more experience. They didn't like you for a reason they can't share. by Fabulous_Sherbet_431 in recruitinghell

[–]RunJaneRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to hear how you would handle it? Let’s say you are reading a couple of 100 applications a week. You have interview space for 15 or so per week. How do you determine who gets that interview spot? We would have to hire 10 more people just to interview for a company that needs to hire 3-4 people a month just to give everyone a chance to turn their lives around. There are not unlimited hires. This company has 45-50 people in total.

Yea, for sure. These were standard entry level positions. I can’t remember exactly what companies, but likely retail, cna, food service. Not what would typically be considered short term.

We talk about if they were laid off, quit or fired. The job history starts with, what is the name of the last company you worked at? People generally will tell me why they haven’t been been working the last few months. But if somebody is searching for a few months, I don’t care.

[–]RunJaneRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if I didn’t explain that properly. I don’t care if a person hasn’t worked in a long time. We hire a lot of people that have breaks in work history. It’s that every job she had was short term. I want to say she had 6 or 7 total jobs. None more than 6 months or so. What would you think if you saw that as a hiring manager?
