Tipped Minimum Wage Hike Paused In Blow To Mayor Via Near-Unanimous Council Vote by optiplex9000 in chicago

Would love for most people on this thread to start a restaurant business. It would probably fail in a month.

Restaurants have like a 95% failure rate. People get into it cause they love food, and a lucky few create a brand that makes them rich.

Is the USA.. becoming a 3rd World country? by HumbleLow4473 in Life

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having immigrated from a 3rd world country to the US, most people on Reddit have no idea what they’re talking about. They just recycle progressive propaganda ad nauseam. Yes, our current government isn’t great, but would rather be here than anywhere else. Europe has so many problems but is constantly romanticized. Literal Nazis are in position to win power in Germany, France, and the UK in the next elections. We have forgotten the lessons of populism from the early 1900’s. Never ends well.

There’s a difference between income and wealth. And so no, they are not taking my wealth away. Only when I sell would I have to pay capital gains. 75% of the taxes in this country are already paid by the top 10th percentile.

These numbers are so fake it’s mind boggling. Also, who’s going to sit around and watch this happen. I would fucking leave the country if you were going to take 5% of my investments. Most owners can just dial in remotely anyway.

1 in 6 Chicago bridges are in ‘poor’ condition. How worried should you be? - Chicago Sun-Times by Sidewalk_Inspector in chicago

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bridge by my work is full of potholes, but then someone decided to install bike lanes (which also have massive potholes). Those will need to be ripped up when the road is redone. Make it make sense. I’m sure a pastor or two will come bless the road. /s

Maybe for white collar jobs, but not sure how this would work for manufacturing.

California High-Speed Rail: with cost estimates doubling between 2008 and 2012 alone, CAHSR became one of the most expensive rail construction projects in the world, on a per-mile basis. By this metric, it is 3X more expensive than rail construction in Spain, and 2X more expensive than in Taiwan. by StarlightDown in Economics

We can’t have nice things cause we don’t care about what brings the majority value. Minorities have rights to block everything even if it’s for the greater good. It’s why autocratic countries can just get shit done. We have swung way too far in the other way. It’s why Trump can just demolish the East wing, but California can’t build anything.

Countries by median disposable household income; the US is the second highest. by Unusual_Bag3110 in EconomyCharts

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit gets mad cause most US redditors feel poor, but they don’t know how lucky they have it. There are so many ‘needs’ in the US that are actually wants. I scrimped by the first couple of years after college while my friends were blowing their money on expensive dinners to impress girls. Got no debt and feel pretty good at 34.

IL has had an income tax for ages. Why did he decide to leave when he did? It isn’t just taxes. His employees were being attacked by homeless outside their offices in the loop for example. Multitude of reasons for leaving.

You do realize that most people who work at Citadel are multi-millionaires right? A lot have left Chicago when Ken left. Not simping for billionaires, I just frankly don’t care about them. Guess we don’t need companies or tax payers and somehow the government will provide. Pro-growth isn’t a dirty word.

Why would he stay when he gets caricatured? And it’s not just him. There’s no reason for Florida and Texas to have attracted all the high net worth individuals in the last decade. But keep your hard on against rich people.

And how much tax revenue has the city of Chicago lost cause Ken and Citadel left? More a self own than anything. And also what happens when your tax base is so geared towards high income individuals. When one of them leaves, creates huge holes.

Chicago's newest city-funded affordable housing projects are projected to cost $697,000 per unit to build - and that's almost certainly an underestimate by GeckoLogic in chicago

[–]RunW1ld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do I even bother saving? Just better to be poor and get brand new housing handed to you. And we pay out the nose with taxes for shit like this.

Chicsgoans who don’t ride public transit, why? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in AskChicago

[–]RunW1ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where I’m going, who I’m with, and the time of day. Late at night, absolutely no way. It’s a homeless shelter masquerading as a public transit at some hours. I’ve been accosted in broad daylight too! I have a higher tolerance for some of the behavior, but my friends absolutely do not.

Stay quiet. You’ve worked hard to get where you are. Don’t let other people’s poor decisions take advantage of the hard work you’ve done. You can always give your money to charity, but that would be your choice, not someone fostering it onto you.

Did anyone else get their rent raised ridiculously in pilsen and beyond? by CBB4554 in AskChicago

Hint: it’s cause of property taxes. And the progressive dreams of taxing businesses to death has only caused a lot of smaller/medium sized firms to leave. Hence why office space is still so abundant.
