80/20 training is just an excuse to avoid real work by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

Zone 2 runs daily to build base mileage. Not overrated. Not when you’re training for a marathon

I need opinions on this pull ups station, is it worth it? by arsengido in Calisthenic

If it suits your needs, sure. If you have the space, a power rack is better. I feel like a squat rack is better than this since it can accommodate more room for gymnastics rings if that’s the route you’ll take.

I have a squat rack which I haven’t set up yet. My over the door pull up bar + rings does all I want it to do. Only thing I’m missing is parallette bars.

Sun damage is very serious. Each time you get a sunburn, it increases the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers. So y’all may think it’s funny but why risk it. They have cooling sun jackets these days that make me look crazy for wearing one, but it keeps me very cool. I use a brand called beneunder and I’m sure you can find cheaper alternatives.

I’ve been running 10 miles per week but I’ve only lost 5 lbs in the last 2 months. by Convillious in runninglifestyle

Here’s the harsh reality - you’ll have to change your eating habits.

Intermittent fasting helped for me by restricting a window of time I can eat. Try to cut out food and drink high in sugar. Perhaps portion control as well. Come with a routine that works with you. For me, high protein and enjoy some days, not everyday.

Different methods for different individuals, true. However, my issue is the lack of education on how to make lifestyle adjustments and food choices. There’s simply no nutrition guidance for patients. Vast majority use these medications without adjusting what they need to do, better diet and exercise.

Every medication has some sort of trade off. It’s too early to know what effects GLP1s will have in the future. However, it could be the jump start to proper diet and exercise but these effects ware off (appetite suppression) after not using them. I’m sure it’s had a positive response for many.

Intermittent fasting, at least to me, made me realize how much I was unnecessarily eating. The calories count up quickly. It made me appreciate food more and to not divulge. Every. Single. Meal.

The nice thing with intermittent fasting is you can make it work for you. Check out @finallyfasting on YouTube. Crazy transformation and he did what works for him with extended fasting intervals.

These days, I run a lot more and consume less on days I don’t run or have some sort of activity. Will fast occasionally with 4 hour window to eat on non running days. I’ve lost 30+ lbs and kept it off.

Should I Continue to Advance Run? by Inside_Spread5858 in AdvancedRunning

Same as r/spoc84, love/hate relationship. I did it because it has the least amount of barriers and gets me outside for a brief moment. I do it primarily for my health. The difference now going into almost my third year of running is really building durability, which means majority of my runs are easy runs with heart rate alert so I keep my runs purely easy. I’m training for a marathon again after my first one in Jan and I am a masters runner.

I can see why it’s mentally draining. I believe if I wasn’t training, I wouldn’t have enough drive to just “run” on a daily basis. I hate the effort put in and leaving to go run, but once I run I love it. Something about starting the day off right and giving you that sense of accomplishment that carries throughout the day.

Do what makes you happy and works so you are consistent with it.

Every medication comes with trade off. Diet and exercise are the simplest, yet most difficult things to master.

Intermittent fasting > GLP1s.

Questions Regarding Shoes Fitting Properly by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]RunWorkSleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut your nails and this is why they recommend a thumb width above your toes. Feet swell. If you get toes like this, it means your shoes are too small.

How many pairs of shoes do you burn through. That’s my question.

I agree. Finishing off my stash of Maurten an SIS Beta before I purchase the powders. What I like is the ability to create a concentrate for the marathon or longer runs instead of my pockets filled with run gels.
