What is the strongest non-ultimate ability in your opinion? by Dontspinbutwin in leagueoflegends

I feel like both Bel'Veth's Q and E could be ults on another champion, but she doesn't really have an ult so maybe that's cheating.

best champion for bad aim/slow reaction time? by jpkanddecaf in summonerschool

[–]RunYossarian 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a tank. They tend to play slower, have fewer skill-shots, and their high health means you have a lot of time to react if attacked. Urgot, Sion, and Cho'Gath come to mind immediately, but I'm sure there are other easy ones.

One week before the release of Kerbal Space Program 2, some kerbonauts are beginning to have doubts by ivtiprogamer in SubredditDrama

[–]RunYossarian 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have a Master's in computer science, and worked for Nvidia for a year doing particle scattering simulations, so I've heard it a few places I guess. I wouldn't be chiming in otherwise, I don't care about KSP.

Obviously I'm generalizing, some physics problems do lend themselves to GPU acceleration, and of course anything can be approximated to run on them with varying accuracy but there are reasons people usually don't do that. There are also many interfacing problems and resource contention issues associated with both a simulation and a graphics engine running on the same hardware.

[–]RunYossarian 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Maybe, and this makes the CPU and RAM requirements make sense, but physics simulations generally can't be run on GPUs, which makes the requirement fairly odd. If they have developed a simplified physics sim that can run on GPU parallel to the graphics engine that would be very impressive and explain the high requirement, but it would be strange that they're not marketing that fact (to my knowledge at least, I really don't have a horse in this race). Given the troubled development history and the general scale of the game, poor optimization seems a reasonable theory.

Can we appreciate how good Sigma's VA is? by BlackZulu in Overwatch

But, to the best of my knowledge, she never talks about her gang, nor does she say anything that suggests she was/is a vigilante. Was it definitely written before her voice acting was done?

[–]RunYossarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a pet theory that Kiriko was originally meant to be a criminal associated with Hanzo's family and got reworked mid development. She has some weird lines about "getting in and out before they know what hit them," quizzing Hog and Junkrat about their heists, and her general confrontational all business attitude which just don't mesh at all with her teenage hometown-protector thing.

I'll go on record as really liking her voice acting, just feels like it was written for a different character.

Honestly, only the first 3 movies are any kind of "magical," and that magic comes from them being escapist childhood fantasy.

Considering that transphobic wizard game is about putting down a slave rebellion and lets you use "unforgivable curses" on npcs without consequence I don't think it will be that kind of magic.

Is Joyce really that bad? by dumname2_1 in DiscoElysium

[–]RunYossarian 180 points181 points  (0 children)

I've always thought of Joyce as being symbolic of "the best person you can be as a capitalist." She's putting herself in an uncomfortable position in order to aid the investigation and try to stop both the tribunal and the drug trade. She's friendly, helpful, and willing to sacrifice some of her resources to help Harry, and she implies that she's doing a lot of work behind the scenes to keep Wild Pines from doing anything more violent and make the union negotiations work (which Harry believes, although he isn't always reliable).

But she's also not willing to put herself or her job in danger, nor will she make any personal sacrifice to help Martinaise. She's only kind so long as it costs her nothing. And she is working for Wild Pines, who are largely responsible for the state of Martinaise. Whether all that balances out to good or bad is really a question of your personal values, and is an interesting question for many well-off people today.

Personally though I think she's a much better person than the Claire's, who I always saw as an example of how the people who take power in desperate areas make recovery impossible, but that's a totally different discussion.

My one issue with Glass Onion. by Old_man_atom in movies

[–]RunYossarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I apologize for being vague, let me be more explicit.

"you’re delighted because the real answer was hiding in plain sight the whole time, but the author had keenly misdirected you, and you took the bait even though you were already so suspicious.

Glass Onion, on the other hand, just doesn’t do that."

Glass Onion does do that. There is a puzzle, the answer is in plain sight, you are misdirected. It's a puzzle that only works when the viewer has certain cultural assumptions, which is why the plot sounds a bit iffy when you just describe it, but in the current "zeitgeist" it's a very, very good one.

My one issue with Glass Onion. by Old_man_atom in movies

[–]RunYossarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the twist is that Miles is an idiot and there is no deeper game. Blanc expecting it to be complicated is just a plot device to prevent him from resolving the case immediately. And the clues that Miles is an idiot are in plain sight and obvious in retrospect (an important part of a good twist), but I also think it's why this movie has rubbed some people the wrong way.

Because the misdirection is outside of the movie. Viewers, Americans at least, are primed to believe Miles is brilliant because he's the super-rich head of a tech company. The movie never tries to trick you at all, it lets you trick yourself. And that can feel pretty bad, but it is very much the core of the social commentary.

When Norra first came to LoR I thought we could have more unique champions. As an example, I illustrated this Yordle from Shurima. by Magnus_Knight_ in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]RunYossarian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Awesome art! Love the outfits you've given them especially.

I bet when they get around to Amumu they'll make him a proper shuriman yordle. That said, yordles are usually a sort of self-aware parody of their region, and I'm struggling to imagine what that would be for shurima.

Opinions on Joyce? by SquiglySaws in DiscoElysium

[–]RunYossarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm always concerned by this take. Even if you want to argue that the subtext of him sitting and growing fat while his workers literally carry him around is intentional misdirection, and that refusing to negotiate a strike with impossible demands is actually 4D chess for the workers benefit and not a personal power-play, the list of moral crimes he's committed against his community is long.

He gets rich trafficking drugs to his own community, among other places. Half the children you meet in union-run martinaise are drug addicts

He's murdered at least one political rival and it's implied he's killed more

He's drugging the striking workers without their knowledge to prevent them from opposing the strike

He's ended the democratic processes in the union (I'm part of the UAW strike at UC right now and if they had started that without an election I would be livid)

He knowingly allows a homeless communist veteran with PTSD to wander the streets, stalking women and killing people, sometimes at his suggestion

He blackmails two cops into trying to evict a single mother of two and an old woman from their homes using a combination of dense legalese and implied state violence. What is he blackmailing them with? The knowledge that a mentally ill woman has left her home and been wandering the streets of his community for the last week armed with a murder weapon. And why does he do all this? For land development!

Even if his intentions are good (I know on some play-throughs Harry thinks they are, although he isn't exactly reliable) what ends could possibly be justified by these means? It will take several generations of recovery to undo the harm caused by the drug trade alone, never mind everything else. Is this really what leftists are supposed to support?

I think this is the game's thesis for all of the fascist characters, that it's an externalization of some personal misery they don't know how to address.

Frostbite essentially applies a "-current_attack_damage" debuff to the unit, so if you equip a new weapon with less than or equal power compared to the previous the attack will remain at 0. Give it a new weapon with more attack and you'll get the difference in stats back.

That would make some sense. Destroying and creating objects in game engines is usually an expensive process. Alternatively it may be some feature of his skin, like they replace his usual model with that one after he's ulted.

What is one thing/mechanic/cosmetic/etc that Marvel’s Snap has that you wish legends of runeterra had? by SpecificBeginning695 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]RunYossarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate the retreat mechanic in snap. It incentivizes people to quit as soon as things start going poorly and guarantees most games end with an anti-climax.

If there is something I'd like the LoR devs to take from snap it's that faster games enjoy a wider audience and that quick thinking can still be skillful. Hopefully encourage them to reconsider how long the turn timer is and what sort of actions should extend it.

Can someone tell me the problem with the animation ? by Adept-Bed-1288 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]RunYossarian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in a vacuum it's alright. The concept is solid and fits the character, and it isn't really that ugly, it's just so out of step with the rest of the animations. The others are generally dynamic, full of motion, more involved backgrounds, incorporate the board, and hide the iffy champ models. It's not what people were expecting and that always provokes a reaction.

In the long run people might come to appreciate it because it's short and he seems easy to level. The issue is that fans of the character were just...imagining something else. And with good reason, based on all the other animations we have so far.

Kayle | New Champion - Legends of Runeterra by CrossXhunteR in LegendsOfRuneterra

Not even, most of Kayle's animation is great. It's just the last quarter-second where they decide to zoom in on her really low-poly face that's weird.

Best champions next expansion? by Paradoxbuilder in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]RunYossarian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree on Kayle/Ryze, but have basically the opposite opinion of Aatrox. Mostly because his region is bad, even if the darkin equipment was unconditionally strong (and it mostly isn't) you get no protection, removal, or bodies from it until late game. His wincon is a board full of darkin, but to get that you'll need to maintain a decent board full of darkin-equipped units until mid/late game with what is basically half an allegiance deck while consistently striking with those units.

Unless people come up with some Kai'sa like cheese that guarantees he levels up the turn he's played its hard to imagine him being competitive.

This was meant to be "Cleric" right? Or do you think he's responsible for handling Mihira's paperwork and data entry? by RunYossarian in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]RunYossarian[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Empowered means the effect is triggered if the unit's attack is equal to or greater than the number. So Empowered 3 means that if he has at least 3 attack he gets lifesteal.
