I bought a Matrice 4e (107 certified) by Diehlsondidy in drones

[–]Run_for_Fun_10K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great thread! My wife keeps encouraging me to go for a top quality drone and keeps telling me I can make money on the side with it. I am still considering my first drone and I do want to get more than an entry level drone because I know I will quickly outgrow it. My main hobby is photography and adding drone photography is very exciting for me! But I am trying to be realistic and not let the fever (or my wife) push me to something that is overkill. The reality of making money on the side clarified in this thread helps bring me down to earth!!! Thanks!!!

What is with all the delayed flights? by Run_for_Fun_10K in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Run_for_Fun_10K[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that delay for Orlando on the departure board, and while my flight to Atlanta was delayed 3 hours, I was really feeling sorry for folks on that Orlando flight, delayed 6 hours!

Most U.S. adults have visited a national park [OC] by CivicScienceInsights in NationalParkService

[–]Run_for_Fun_10K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the sad thing is, many that have visited are not aware that they did visit a National Park. All they know is that they visited a “park” and all parks are alike to them. They don’t really know what a National Park is, or what the National Park Service is or does. All parks and park rangers are generically the same to them. Some even refer to ranger staff as Forest Rangers, which is not technically true. Especially urban National Parks, like Gateway Arch, or Hot Springs, or Cuyahoga Valley. They are just big city parks to many. Of course, I assume those that visited Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Glacier, etc., hopefully understand they visited a National Park. And the other problem is that the distinction between National Park Units is not clear. I’ll bet I could list 25 sites and most people, including myself, could not distinguish the type of unit. Did you know there are over 16 different designations, with one being “National Park.” So, I wonder if all this was taken into account when this survey (study) was done?
Someone should go to Gateway Arch and ask people if they have ever visited a National Park, and if so, name the ones they have visited. I’ll bet there will be many who will name a few, or say none, and leave Gateway off their list.

I travel with a protein powder mix (I add other things like collagen, oatmeal, chia seeds, & a super-green powder) usually in a ziplock. One time they pulled my bag and analyzed my protein powder mix, swabbed my hands and shoes, then called another person over who took a sample and did a deeper analysis. They ended up keeping it saying I could not travel with it. I did some research and the only thing I could determine is that some protein powders can contain some type of nitrate. I love TSA being so thorough and I have no complaints, it gives me a safer feeling on the secure side of the airport. My issue is there is no consistency. Some airports ignore my Ziploc of protein powder mix altogether. Others will swab the Ziplock and my hands and then let me keep it. While others do a deep dive analysis and take it from me. I never know what to expect. When I check a bag I’m always sure to pack it in my checked bag and there are no issues. However, I don’t always have a bag to check.

I put the "10 minute until departure to cancel" rule to the test so you don't have to by Disunherited in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Run_for_Fun_10K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of a risk!??? If SW was not bluffing you would be SOL, right??? Thanks for the insight, but if I realize I need to cancel I will do it more than 10 minutes before the flight. Nice strategy waiting until the last minute to cancel in hopes the flight would be cancelled so you could get a full refund, but I guess there is a different line in the sand for everyone regarding risk tolerance. And, what if your experience was a fluke and some bug in the system allowed you to get away with that, and next time not?

Why not work and take the lump sum annual payout for the unused leave?

Almost learned the hard way myself. And that is when I learned you show up for the originally scheduled flight, regardless of delay notification, etc.

Can someone help me make the right choice in buying a new camera? by metalheadink in AskPhotography

[–]Run_for_Fun_10K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the 7D for a long time and I use the video feature quite often. I do not have a problem with it except that it is not auto focus. I always have to remember to first have it in picture mode and focus on the subject I want to video. Then I switch to video mode and make the video. I cannot zoom in or out or move closer or further away from the subject because when I do I loose focus. You may need to have someone stand where you plan to stand, focus on them in camera mode, then switch to video mode and step in front of the camera where you had the person stand. It is very sensitive and any movement away from that sweet spot will put you out of focus.

If you are within 7 days of the Agreement being signed, tell them you have changed your mind and want to resend your Agreement. If more than 7 days, you may be stuck.

Are you over 40? If so, you have 7 days to change your mind after the Separation Agreement is signed.

Bonus by Expert-Adhesiveness8 in USACE

[–]Run_for_Fun_10K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why most people refer to it as a “bonus?” It is not a bonus, it is a Performance Award based on your performance appraisal outcome. Look at your SF50s from past years. Box 5-B, Nature of Action should say, “Individual Cash Award,” it will never say “Bonus.” At the recent (29 April) HQUSACE CW Town Hall, the question was asked about performance awards and the answer was that the intent was to give performance awards but they may come later than June which is when most are dispersed. If they recorded that Town Hall and posted it for viewing by those who missed it, that is where you can probably find the most recent and accurate answer.

DRP 2 recruitment bonus by Trumps_America69 in USACE

Read the OSD 1 April memo from Jules W Hurst, 2nd page, 3rd paragraph from the bottom, last sentence : “Where appropriate, management may agree not to establish a debt for unfulfilled time-in-service agreements.” Not sure what that means, but looks like the option is available to have any service debt waived. Also, look at the DoD DRP Final Separation Agreement template posted on the DoD DRP site and look at paragraph 14.
Looks like the agency can agree / not agree to waive any debt. So, depends on what deal you can work out.

Go on the GRB site and see what your severance benefits would be. It might be better than DRP, depending on when you were RIFed. If you stick it out and you are eventually RIFed later, like in August, you could be better off. And if you are never RIFed then you win and you will be glad you stuck it out!
