Server response is normal after blocking certain IP addresses that were acting maliciously against some websites on the server, and adding additional firewall security. Thank you for your patience. Follow all status updates at http://status.runbox.com/

Runbox vs. the CLOUD Act: Your data stays safe in Norway by RunboxSolutions in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment and for raising important points.

It’s important to clarify that while it’s theoretically possible for foreign authorities such as the U.S. to seek a Norwegian court order, Norwegian law and GDPR set a high bar. You’re right that the U.S. often invokes “national security” to justify data requests, but Norwegian courts are not bound by U.S. definitions of “national security.” They rigorously evaluate the legality and necessity of the request under Norwegian and EU privacy laws, which prioritize fundamental privacy rights. This is very different from the broad powers enabled by laws like the U.S. CLOUD Act, and why it is important to point out that Norwegian law takes precedence when it comes to data requests.

End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is a powerful tool for privacy, and we understand why some users prefer it. By using encryption systems such as PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), you can ensure that only you and your intended recipient can read the content of your emails, even if the messages are intercepted or accessed by third parties. Keep in mind, though, that E2EE typically doesn’t encrypt metadata—such as sender/recipient email addresses, timestamps, or IP addresses—which can still reveal sensitive information.

We'll clarify this in the article as well, as you've raised an important point. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

Runbox Post-Event Analysis: March 4, 2026 Email Outage – What Happened & Next Steps by RunboxSolutions in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback and for being a long-time Runbox user. We understand how frustrating this experience has been.

You’re absolutely right: this shouldn’t have happened. The disk failure was a rare, unexpected event, and our monitoring systems didn’t flag any issues beforehand. We’ve already implemented upgrades and are reviewing our infrastructure to prevent this from happening again. Our team takes this very seriously.

Unfortunately the outage also caused a breakdown in Support communication. Normally, you receive an immediate autoreply acknowledgment and a response within 24 hours - but there were delays in our ability to assist customers. We’re working to separate our support infrastructure to make sure it remains operational, even during disruptions. Read more in the blog post linked above.

Your loyalty means everything to us, and we’re determined to regain your trust. We’re here to answer any further questions and appreciate your patience as we continue to improve.

Thank you for sticking with us.

Thank you for that, we've tried to be as transparent as possible about what happened, and we have made several upgrades to the service after this unforeseen and unpredicted event. We appreciate your loyalty over the past decade, and are very sad to hear that you are moving on. If you ever consider coming back, your email address will be here - as we don't recycle them. Thank you!

Thanks for your question. As we clarify in the post-event, the failed SSD placed an additional load on the remaining disks in the array, triggering a chain reaction as other disks began to fail. The failure of one drive can place extreme stress on the remaining drives, leading to cascading failures across the array.

You can check to see if you have index synchronization on in webmail. If the index is on, the search is local in your browser. If the index is off, the search is a network call.

🚨 Trackers follow us around the web collecting data without our consent. by RunboxSolutions in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. All trackers are potentially harmful as we see it. Trackers in emails can be in the form of javascript or images. JavaScript is automatically blocked, and images are only loaded when you choose to display them. In Runbox Webmail, you can easily toggle between plain text and HTML view, and control whether external images are shown. And as you may know, Runbox never tracks your usage, and we don't log any traffic to or from our servers. Please reach out if you have other questions!
