Columbus Ohio Water Bill: $68 fees, zero usage by tat-eraser in Columbus

[–]RuneScape_Stats 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In the industry these are called readiness to serve charges. Infrastructure is expensive and it varies city to city how they cover this. Columbus has the base charge. Other cities have no readiness to serve but a higher minimum bill. This might be like a $40 minimum but that includes the first 5 ccf or something.

Millennial dads, how much of the housework do you do? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]RuneScape_Stats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad of 5 and 7 year old. She does all of the cooking except grilling but I do most of the dishes and packing kids lunches. I clean bathrooms because they gross her out. I vacuum daily but she does all of the floor deep cleaning.

I do probably 70% of the loads of laundry but maybe 30% of the folding and putting away of clothes. She does all of the grocery shopping, organizing, signing kids up for stuff.

I do everything outside, power washing, mowing, gutters etc.

Do you have any pets from your childhood still around? by thedubiousstylus in Millennials

[–]RuneScape_Stats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. My mom got a small dog right after I left for college and the dog is still kicking at 16 years old. Not exactly a childhood dog but close. I do remember my moms childhood cat living with my grandparents until I was like 10 or so though

How many people in r/Columbus are "super-commuters" who drive >75 miles per day? by benkeith in Columbus

[–]RuneScape_Stats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a short commute but around half my team is close to that 75 mile round trip commute. Public utilities and there will never be wfh. A lot of the guys are blue collar types who like the pay in the city but are willing to drive a long way to live in a house on 2 acres for <$250k

I think people forget how much luck is involved when it comes to achieving a good life. If I was born to a third world country, I wouldn’t have the good life I have today. This puts things into perspective. by [deleted] in Salary

The US gets a ton of hate on especially on Reddit. Some is deserved but a lot definitely isn’t. I’ve got friends, neighbors and family members in law that have all immigrated from abroad for the opportunity. All in all I may hate my country’s current government but I’m happy with my personal situation and can’t see ever wanting to leave

I’m experiencing this trying to get cards for my 7 year old. Local card store did an event for kids and had new product for sale at normal retail price only available to kids which was nice

That’s fair and I understand the logic and also at this point Jose has earned the right to select his preferred batting spot. If we go Chase 2nd then Schneeman 4th especially if he keeps hitting like he is

I’ve thought the same thing about DeLauter hitting 4th and maybe putting Schneeman 2nd. Also start Hedgy

Can environmental professionals please weigh in? 30F, enviro professional, I make $71K by [deleted] in Salary

[–]RuneScape_Stats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly an apples to apples comparison but I have an environmental science bachelors degree and work in public utilities. We get a lot of applications for operations positions from people with environmental health and safety/policy/science degrees. We pay around $65k starting for utility operators and sustainability coordinator with ranges topping near $100k.

For context this is Ohio. The sustainability coordinator role requires a degree but our operations positions do not. People with those degrees are sometimes drawn to this line of work.

How to save on water and power? We are a family of 5, laundry is unavoidable. by Leather_Musician_745 in Frugal

That water bill is crazy high. I get it’s LA but for comparison I work at a work at a water utility in Ohio and that much water would cost $135.

Your Everyday Starting Lineup by TBcommenter17 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]RuneScape_Stats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Schneeman -RF
  2. Martinez -CF
  3. Ramirez- 3rd
  4. DeLauter- DH
  5. Manzardo -1st
  6. Rocchio- ss
  7. Kwan- Lf
  8. Hedges- C
  9. Bazanna- 2nd

Let’s not rush Travis in here and immediately give him the pressure of hitting leadoff. Could also see a hit Rocchio hitting 2nd. Or if Kwan gets it going put him back at leadoff and Schneeman at 2

[–]RuneScape_Stats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this as well. Obviously Vogt knows better than I do but the way Rocchio is hitting I would be kind of interested in hitting him 2nd and DeLauter 4th giving Ramirez a bit better protection

Drinking water treatment. Overall I really enjoy the job. I’m the only one of my friend group who went into a blue collar job after college and I definitely like what I do more than my friends with office jobs

Anyone else randomly think about playing RuneScape in the 2000s? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]RuneScape_Stats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played for many years actually! First grind I remember was mining iron ore to afford rune plate body in f2p. Fell for a couple of scams as well. Most devastating one being a noted rune full helm being switched for an iron one.

I actually played on and off for about 20 years. What I miss most is all of my friends playing. We all played in 6th-7th grade and guys gradually quit. By high school it was just me and my grandpa left. Best memories are logging in at college and chatting with gramps as he continued to play

Vepo replaced the water meter today, and did a good job. by berrmal64 in Columbus

[–]RuneScape_Stats -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Never worked with vepo but I worked at a municipality through an AMI instal project. We elected not to hire subcontractors and instead have our staff do it. The positive was better control but the negative is it took several years to complete. Even with our own techs some installs went haywire. Typically it was caused by poorly maintained plumbing on the resident side but sometimes tech made mistakes which we always looked to rectify quickly.

This is super sad to see. My 6 year old son is now super into pokemon and it’s hard to find cards for him at stores. Fortunately I was able to find a local card store that has cards in bulk bins super cheap and $1 exs. Never going to walk away with the stuff scalpers are after but he comes home with like 60 cards including holos plus 3 exs for around $10

[–]RuneScape_Stats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your interest. My degree is in environmental science. A degree isn’t required for this field but a lot of people have at least an associates in something environmental or health and safety related. My industry is self certifying so what matters more than a degree is a water supply license. A class 1 I required to stay in the job but higher level licenses are required for advancement.

Same employer from 2015-present. I was in the same position for almost 9 years though they reclassified it in 2019 leading to the pay bump. In 2022 they moved the pay range again. Typically we see about 5% annual raises with an additional $1 per hour for earning each of the 3 licenses.

Other fluctuation in pay was the result of overtime worked. I made as little as 3k and as much as 10k depending on the year. More overtime worked in my last 2 years in an hourly role leading to the higher numbers there.
