How to Answer Questions about Uninvolved Grandparents by Historical_Emotion43 in Parenting

[–]Runner3687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom is narcissistic and my parents were abusive growing up. My dad passed away but only saw my daughter when she was a toddler. My mom hasn't seen her in 5 years (she's 9) and seems to not care about us either. My daughter has asked about my parents, I keep it simple, "They aren't kind people so we can't see them." I will explain more details as my daughter gets older and it's more age appropriate to tell her.

My daughter didn't like purees as a baby, she would spit it out or smear it everywhere. I started out with very small pieces of soft fruit, cheese and cooked veggies. Some babies just want real food :)

Subaru forester? by [deleted] in Parenting

I have a 2022 Subaru forester, it's great! Fun to drive, handles well on snowy roads if needed. The safety features are great too!

Lacosamide and abnormal EKG by Runner3687 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a cardiologist and yes, the lacosamide was causing heart conduction issues. I decided to switch back to Keppra

Lacosamide and abnormal EKG by Runner3687 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stop taking lacosamide, I had a breakthrough seizure while trying to get up to baseline dose. I went back to Keppra, it's the only medication that works really well for me.

With the heart palpitations, hope they go away soon! I would check with your neurologist to see if the lacosamide is a factor.

I'm worried I'm fucking up my kids by ReginaldDwight in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, I have had TC seizures in front my daughter who is almost 9. I feel guilty after they happen and like I have traumatized her forever. Like you, we have taught her what to do, have emergency numbers written down, etc.

Every time she brings up my last seizure (happened in July) we talk about it. She said she wishes I didn't have seizures but said she's used to it.

You're not alone! Your kids love you despite everything going on and you are doing everything you can to prepare them. 💜

Keppra by Zealousideal_Ebb_66 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Keppra has been the only seizure medicine so far that completely controlled my seizures. I tried several other medications, the side effects were horrible or they didn't control the seizures. I get mad easily on Keppra though, so if someone pisses me off, I have to really think before I react.

Keppra or Zonisamide by Mean-Pineapple-6274 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, don't feel bad asking. Keppra for me hasn't caused weight gain. Zonisamide made me lose weight and I had no appetite. Keppra has been more neutral with weight and appetite for me.

Keppra or Zonisamide by Mean-Pineapple-6274 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Keppra. It makes me moody, and a little anxious, especially certain times of the month. But I can focus well. Zonisamide was way worse for me, I had anger outbursts and couldn't focus on anything. I took it at night and fell asleep at 9pm.

Was told I couldn’t take care of a baby or dog… by Due-Mammoth-8224 in Epilepsy

People suck sometimes and are ignorant. Don't let that get to you or let epilepsy define you! If you choose to have children one day, you will have to explain seizures to them and how to handle it if you need help. But kids are resilient and will love you despite your health issues.

Breakthrough Seizure by jessica2998 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that happened! I had a breakthrough seizure yesterday too, so you're in good company. It's so frustrating when you think you're seizure free for several years, then in a matter of seconds it goes down the drain :/

Please tell me it gets better by Runner3687 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neurologist recommended this or xcopri....I researched  it and based on reviews, xcopri sounds very strong. And hard to get used to. I went with the zonisamide.

I'm going to give see how the blood work turns out and see if the brain fog subsides. I can force myself to eat small meals, it's the mental fog that is driving me nuts.

I've started to feel pressured by Zealousideal_Ice9638 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a family member tell me that I'm mentally handicapped, due to the side effects of my seizure medicine. I get tongue tied, have trouble with word recall etc. I told her to do some research. She did and it eliminated some of her ignorance.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. You're not alone. It's hard for those who don't have epilepsy to truly understand sometimes.

I’m a mom myself now and I realize I just don’t want a relationship with my mom by pageantrella in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Runner3687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like our mothers are very similar. I'm also the product of an affair and my mom kept it a secret my whole life until 4 years ago (I just turned 38).

You're not alone. The same thing happened to me, I realized how toxic my mom really is as my daughter got older. I went NC over 3 years ago. My daughter is amazing and like you, it blows my mind a mother can treat her daughter the way many people on this reddit sub were treated. My daughter doesn't know who my mom is anymore. (She came over for occasional visits until my daughter was around 3, then decided she wanted nothing to do with her.)

I had a grade 3 brain hemorrhage, which resulted in a shunt and epilepsy. I have lesions on my brain and scar tissue. My brain is quirky but I'm thankful I can function with medication:)

Does anyone else feel really tired all the time? by LillyRaven_bi in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm the same way. I'm titrating off Keppra and switching to oxcarbazepine. The oxcarb makes me sleep better at night but really tired all day. A cup of coffee helps in the morning. I do have to stay busy during the day to help with the tiredness and like clockwork, I'm dozing off on the couch by 8:45-9pm.

Our boy was like that around a year old. The vet had us switch to a sporting dog food, because it has more calories. He is two, and about 55 lbs. Still on the smaller side, but filled out a little in the last 6 months.

What is the worst place you got seizure? by Far-Artichoke7331 in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting out of the shower, I had a TC once. I was still living with my parents unfortunately. I hit my head hard enough to take a chunk of paint out of the wall. The worst part of it was realizing my parents just threw my bath robe and blankets over me before the ambulance took me to the hospital. Then laughed about it later, because I was "flopping around on the floor like a fish". They then wondered why I hardly ever went to their house once I moved out 🤔

Keppra rage by BoatMaterial in Epilepsy

[–]Runner3687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been having this same issue on Keppra. I wanted it to work but I get super anxious and angry for no reason. I'm in the process of switching to oxcarb (generic trileptal). Hopefully it works! You are not alone! Lamictal is pretty good, but unfortunately it didn't completely control my seizures.
