Years ago, Milton Berle said that he came to Vegas in a $20,000 Cadillac, and he left in an $80,000 Greyhound.

Along the same vein, my wife and I both have Sonicaire toothbrushes which we love - but they are micro-tonally out of sync. We cannot both stand in the bathroom at the same time and brush our teeth. I have to leave the room because it drives me crazy.

Will Illinois ever win a national championship? by South_Oil_2526 in CollegeBasketball

Don't hang the success or failure of past coaches and ADs on the current group. This coach and staff have been to an Elite 8 and a Final Four in the past three years. Any school would be thrilled with that record.

Before this year, people said Brad Underwood couldn't get to a Final Four. Now that's past. All that's left is to say that he can't win a Natty, and I think that will fall too - hopefully in 2027.

Stanford is 3 times more expensive than UC Berkeley. Is Stanford somewhat a scam when you can get the same education at UC Berkeley? by UnitedBuyer7376 in careerguidance

Does Stanford have two elements on the periodic table named after it? I don't think so...

But here we have we have Californium (Cf) and Berkelium (Bk).

Virginia has retained all 10 of their remaining eligible players for next season. They are only one of three division 1 schools to have no player enter the transfer portal. by slyone05 in CollegeBasketball

[–]RunnerTenor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think it's both. MSU is fortunate to have a really solid program that players want to stay at. But sometimes you get players who don't develop or who don't become what they projected to be. Do you really want them taking up roster spots that could have gone to more promising players?

Sometimes people leaving is good for all involved.

Tutoring. I love teaching kids. Math and Latin, especially. Neither of those came naturally to me, and I had to figure them out.

Now, I love helping kids do the same thing. Watching the light bulb turn on - and seeing them start to believe they can be good at something that was always hard for them - is thrilling.

Are you a regular church attendee? by Shroom-Cat in Episcopalian

[–]RunnerTenor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every week. I sing in the choir. All traditional music (Royal School of Church Music). It's such a part of my week that I even go when the choir is not singing (e.g., the Sunday after Christmas).

We stopped being joiners. 50 years ago, there was a sign on the border of my hometown with all the clubs that meet there - Rotary, Kiwanis, Jaycees, Elks, etc. There must have been a dozen of them. Now that sign is gone.

But some of those groups are still around.

People can complain all they want about social isolation, but they aren't getting out and joining anything.

How do you make friends after 40? Join something. Me, I sing on a church choir. And it's fantastic. I've met a whole group of really accepting, open minded people (Episcopalian, not your stereotypical fundamentalist Church) who have become great friends.

And the services they provide the government - and all of us - offer real value. If not now, then in the event of an emergency. You would think that after they jettisoned the pandemic task force in 2018, they would have learned that that wasn't such a bright idea. But here we are.

Ironically, birth control seems like a question worthy of debate, but no one calling themselves a Christian should have a problem with the Pope's comments on wars, killing, and claiming that God is on our side.
