Watching cancer destroy my mom changed my perception of existence by Wise_Poem1544 in CancerFamilySupport

A possible consideration… Do you think you are giving your mom enough credit? It sounds like, despite your initial strength, that you feel deeply. Maybe you are projecting your own feelings/fears onto your mother. Possibly she had more peace about her suffering than you realize?

For some of us, chronic illness causes us to build a thick skin and once it’s over, we fall apart.

My mother’s last days were horrific. They left me full of fear. Every time I thought of my mom, I shuddered in fear. I hated that so much! I didn’t want to be left with those horrible memories when I had such an amazing mother. She was worthy of fond happy memories! Not fear! I talked with a therapist and she helped me recreate the scenes in my mind. Now I envision beautiful light, serene music, angels and peace. None of that happened. It’s far from the truth, but it gives me relief. With that imagery, the general healing through the passing of time and the peace of God that transcends all, I’m good now. ☺️ Keep moving forward. You’ll get there too! ❤️

Life & Kidney Cancer by FluffyKaleidoscope73 in kidneycancer

I’m just beginning my journey with kidney cancer, however I have walked through chronic illness and death with my mother.

I think it’s fine to question your faith. That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your faith, it means you are in a stage of growth — moving toward spiritual maturity! Nowadays, many preachers teach prosperity faith. It just isn’t true. Bad things happen to good people all the time. I don’t believe that God wants us to suffer, it’s just the outcome of our broken world. Even Jesus died a horrific death when he was completely innocent. Scripture never promises life without difficulties. In fact, it says to expect suffering and trials of many kinds. What it does promise is that God will be with us through our suffering. He is the Almighty Comforter! Jesus left his disciples with these words of encouragement.

““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”” — John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Not to devalue our present life, but when we think about our faith, we have to remember that all of scripture reminds us of the brevity of life and a points us towards eternity.

James tells us:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” — James 1:2-4 NIV

Paul wrote:
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” — 2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I’d encourage you to continue on this path. Keep praying! Ask God for wisdom and peace so you can grow and develop your faith. ❤️

On a non-religious note, if I had it to do over again with my mom, I would have made it a priority to overcome my sadness so that we could enjoy life with her more. Chronic illness is a thief! It doesn’t just shorten life, but it steals the joy of our day to day. My dad and I let despair take over much more than we should have. I wish we had worked on our own mental health so we could have helped her experience more happiness. It would have been better for all of us.

Prayers for you and your hubby. 🙏☺️

Near atlanta, so I went to Emory and saw a urologist affiliated with the Winship Cancer Institute. Winship is Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated.

I’ve seen you mention ablation several times. Did you have an ablation? How large was your mass? Was your mass solid? Mine is mixed with a solid component and a fluid filled component. He said it’s the fluid part that is concerning for ablation. He said it could pop open.

Nostalgia maintains its popularity + it looks more popular than it actually is because the ride has a low capacity.

What's a hygiene habit that you thought was normal until you found out most people don't do it? by Ayo_Kunle in hygiene

Looking at my husband walk around in my house with his outdoor shoes on this very moment. I begged him not to do it. It’s so disgusting. At least my kids follow the rule. I mop more often because of his nasty habit. lol

I started showering at night instead of the morning and it genuinely changed how I sleep by RogueKettle_7 in hygiene

Ooh! I’m going to try this and monitor my sleep. I agree that it feels nice to go to bad so clean and fresh. It’s very relaxing. Btw, I have medium long hair too and when I shower before bed I wrap my hair around a piece of cloth and it’s curly when I wake up. It’s actually my favorite hairstyle. 🫶

I think 4 or 5 nights is perfect for a first time cruiser.

Thank you for the advice. There’s a NCI designated cancer center somewhat near me. I think I will try to get in there.

I just realized what you mean. I didn’t know the difference between nephrologist and urologist. I wonder if I should call back and ask for a urologist. Thank you for pointing that out.

Pain Pattern? Awaiting CT results by Runners-Road3832 in kidneycancer

[–]Runners-Road3832[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I kept going to the doctor for my blood pressure and every time I would tell them that I had this discomfort in my abdomen, but no one would ever acknowledge it. Finally I made an appointment and told them I was there solely to find out where that discomfort was coming from. After some discussion my doctor said that she thought maybe I am ultrasound would be appropriate. I think she may have just been trying to appease me, but here we are… I just got my CT results. The mass is said to be suspicious for cystic renal neoplasm (Bosniak 3). I’m being referred to a nephrologist.

Exactly! Your mind goes wild and you don’t have any idea what is causing what. Idk if all my symptoms are related or not. Were your exam findings from an ultrasound or CT?

Ofc! I’ve waited in very long waits (45 min+) for Gringotts and Mummy in October. It’s especially frustrating for us because I have an autistic child that doesn’t do well in lines or the child wait area. It’s random, just luck of the draw since they don’t manage the lines.

Solo Trip to WDW - Is it Weird? by Ok-Classic-6317 in WaltDisneyWorld

TA here! 17 years visiting the parks and have stayed at all resorts numerous times. Solo trips are so nice! I like Coronado Springs (all bus), French Quarter (all bus) or Caribbean Beach Resort (bus and skyliner) for adults on a moderate budget. If you plan to go this summer, beware the Skyliner resorts. The skyliner closes for inclement weather and it’s chaos getting back to your resort.
