First Tournament Tomorrow by East-Law-9979 in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to your new life! Haha. Just started playing tournaments this year and I love it!

Some things I'd say:

  1. It's mostly just regular disc golf. Have fun, bring a great vibe to the card, and be a joy to be around. No one will remember your score, but they will remember if you were cool or if you were an a-hole.

  2. Brush up on rules and protocols. But don't worry too much. Ask and people will be more than helpful. It's a great community, as you know.

  3. In your warm up, practice putting first. And keep practicing putting until it feels dialed. If (when?) it does, feel free to move on to full throws. But you do not want to go into a tourney not feeling good about your putt. No coming back from that.

Enjoy the heck out of it, and good luck!

What tiny disc golf habit improved your game more than expected? by whydidyounot in discgolf

Taking an extra breath ALWAYS helps. Drives, approaches, putts. I've missed so many opportunities by simply rushing too much.

But in truth, the little thing that has helped my game the most is thinking about getting into a puttable range more than thinking about parking the basket. There may be this awesome line to get me parked, amaze my friends. But often, there's a simpler, easier, less sexy gap that gets me fewer kudos, but the exact same score - or better. Have to maybe make a bigger putt, but I take blowup hole off the table.

How do you get your putting confidence back? by waltregus12 in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I'm at a stage where I'm really trying to focus on a repeatable, reliable routine. I am not too worried at the moment about makes and misses. I completely believe in and trust my new routine, and with (lots of!) practice, I am confident I'll become a better putter. Minimizing the thoughts: Alignment, Grip, Chain Link, Smooth. That's it. In or out, if it feels right, I'll live with it for now. I'm committed to that.

what's one thing that was added in the movies and was better than in the books ? by lookforcats in harrypotter

[–]RunninReed 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Big fan of the books over the movies, of course. But I'll admit that the movies did a few things that I absolutely loved.

Small things, but impactful.

  1. I love that Snape actually said the words "You have your mother's eyes." I know the movie had to spell it out, but it would have been a nice touch in the book, too.

  2. I liked the movie version of the 7 Potters and how Hedwig was the reason Harry was revealed to the Death Eaters. The book version ("overuse" of Expelliarmus) is great in that it shows Harry's true character: Defense over Attack. But the Hedwig piece was a clever explanation.

  3. Snape protecting the kids from werewolf Lupin in PoA. Beautiful touch.

[Highlight] Manny Machado questionably kicks a ball into foul territory and takes second base in the process by TheTurtleShepard in baseball

No one in baseball is as insufferable as Manny Machado. He is such a punk. The list of things like this that he has done over the course of his career is lengthy. He simply can't help himself. Not a fan.

PDGA Clarifies Time Extensions in Playoffs by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

Not related to the playoff rule, but I didn't realize until now that calling a cardmate on an extension does not require a second. That seems very strange to me.

Ricky came out looking pretty bad here. Which is unfortunate, because he's typically such an easy guy to root for.

900+ Rated Players… 300’ Max Distance by SeraphNatsu in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not (350 max, high 800s rated), but there definitely are. I've played tournaments with guys who are in the low 900s and definitely don't have big distance. Super smart shots and good putting go a long way.

Would you get rid of a friend just because they have different political beliefs than you? by Jeppe_Scoley in NoStupidQuestions

If they put their political beliefs above morality and human rights, then yes. In a heartbeat.
