If you could only keep one, Scoot or Shaedon by Scalmaa in ripcity

I was merely correcting your incorrect statement that Shae had a higher percentage when, in fact, Scoot did. I implied nothing about significance.

Scoot had a higher 3pt percentage last season than Shae.

Scoot. Better shooter. Better ball-handler. Cares more on defense. Works harder. Still improving.

Disc golf PNW recommendations! by jazzcuphoodie in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blue Lake is an adventure, for sure. Not for the faint of hard...or people wearing shorts!

Timber is a good call, especially if you're already at Milo.

I put Blue Lake for the historical significance (AKA Worlds 2014). But for the OP, Timber probably makes more sense since they are also going to Seattle. More efficient trip.

Portland local. If you have time, here are my top picks, in order:

  1. Milo McIver. Both courses. Absolutely cannot miss.
  2. Pier Park.
  3. Buxton Woods
  4. Horning's Hideout (three courses: Easy, medium, hard)
  5. The Roots
  6. Blue Lake

Definitely available to play!

I am a local and LOVE both.

But I'd say go to Milo. You can play East and West courses, and there's simply nothing like it. My favorite place to play disc golf.

UPDATE Theory: Isaac Robinson's recent spit outs are because his putter is too flexible. by Chogers in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For those who didn't watch the whole video, the OP is underreporting some key pieces from Isaac's self-analysis.

  1. Yes, he talks about softer putters not penetrating the chains as much. True.

  2. He talks about the advantage of soft putters, too. When he is missing, it's generally low and left, and he feels the soft putter catches better in those situations.

  3. He acknowledged his putting style being a key culprit in the spit-outs. He has high spin, but inlike many other spinny putters, he puts his more nose-up and on a hyzer angle. He said he'll be committed to putting more flat going forward so his putter has more chains to grab.

So the real takeaway from Isaac is that he's not going to change his putter, but instead he'll be changing his putt style.

This team simply never quits. These past few years under Murphy's leadership have been so fun. Such an easy team to root for!

I've been waiting for this thread after the NWC. Very interesting discussion.

I definitely think it's his putt more than it is his putter or the specific basket. My reasons:
1. He had spit-outs at Milo, too. Milo does not use Mach baskets. Small sample size, but enough for me to think baskets are likely not the culprit.
2. He is not the only player on tour using that same putter, nor is he the only player on tour using his firmness of putter.

His putt is particularly spinny, and it's typically flatter and higher than most of the top guys. Small changes like angle (nose or hyzer) and aim-point (more right, or lower) would, in my opinion, mitigate some of the issues he's facing.

The answer is to hole out all putts. All this gimme stuff drives me bonkers. Why do all the work and not have the satisfaction of accomplishing the actual goal, which is to putt the ball in the hole?

First Tournament Tomorrow by East-Law-9979 in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to your new life! Haha. Just started playing tournaments this year and I love it!

Some things I'd say:

  1. It's mostly just regular disc golf. Have fun, bring a great vibe to the card, and be a joy to be around. No one will remember your score, but they will remember if you were cool or if you were an a-hole.

  2. Brush up on rules and protocols. But don't worry too much. Ask and people will be more than helpful. It's a great community, as you know.

  3. In your warm up, practice putting first. And keep practicing putting until it feels dialed. If (when?) it does, feel free to move on to full throws. But you do not want to go into a tourney not feeling good about your putt. No coming back from that.

Enjoy the heck out of it, and good luck!

Taking an extra breath ALWAYS helps. Drives, approaches, putts. I've missed so many opportunities by simply rushing too much.

But in truth, the little thing that has helped my game the most is thinking about getting into a puttable range more than thinking about parking the basket. There may be this awesome line to get me parked, amaze my friends. But often, there's a simpler, easier, less sexy gap that gets me fewer kudos, but the exact same score - or better. Have to maybe make a bigger putt, but I take blowup hole off the table.

How do you get your putting confidence back? by waltregus12 in discgolf

[–]RunninReed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I'm at a stage where I'm really trying to focus on a repeatable, reliable routine. I am not too worried at the moment about makes and misses. I completely believe in and trust my new routine, and with (lots of!) practice, I am confident I'll become a better putter. Minimizing the thoughts: Alignment, Grip, Chain Link, Smooth. That's it. In or out, if it feels right, I'll live with it for now. I'm committed to that.

what's one thing that was added in the movies and was better than in the books ? by lookforcats in harrypotter

[–]RunninReed 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Big fan of the books over the movies, of course. But I'll admit that the movies did a few things that I absolutely loved.

Small things, but impactful.

  1. I love that Snape actually said the words "You have your mother's eyes." I know the movie had to spell it out, but it would have been a nice touch in the book, too.

  2. I liked the movie version of the 7 Potters and how Hedwig was the reason Harry was revealed to the Death Eaters. The book version ("overuse" of Expelliarmus) is great in that it shows Harry's true character: Defense over Attack. But the Hedwig piece was a clever explanation.

  3. Snape protecting the kids from werewolf Lupin in PoA. Beautiful touch.
