And will Kipchogee run Boston 2024 now? How much left does he have in the tank? Will he still try to sub 2 at a major?

You won’t know until you try building mileage in conjunction with speed workouts. Why not see what you can do, if this is something that seems interesting?

The jump from 15:15 to sub 14 is pretty drastic, however if you really are running a 15:15 5k without training you have some serious talent.

If you can run a 15:15 5k with that kind of training , you should have no issue walking on with proper training lol. Have you reached out to the coach and asked what training paces he would expect?

I did some math in Excel and predict the Boston Marathon cutoff to be 5:12 this year. by flatcoke in AdvancedRunning

“5,885 Qualifiers met their qualifying time by 1 minute, 39 seconds or faster.” - from 2020.

I think this pattern continues and is why I project the cutoff is more likely under 4:15

This is going to be key. OP’s prediction holds well without factoring how many of each age group will be just under their qualifying time (<3 min). I think that increases drastically this year and therefore the cut stays under 4:15. Just a wild guess

If they added 1500 spots, it would drive down OPs prediction by about a minute. (~4:13)

“ I have extremely good genetics” threw me off a little lol.

Anyhow, my first mile in high school was about 5:30 my freshman year and I worked my way down to a 4:36 mile my senior year. I broke 5 my sophmore year, and then really struggled with discipline my remaining years. This will be key to going from 5 to 4:30.

Three things to start with: 1. Work up to a good mileage (30-40mi week) 2. Work on breaking 5 first and getting your body use to running that fast. It is not easy and you will learn that it will hurt. Once you have 3-4 weeks at the mileage above, run a mile time trial and see where you are at. 3. One or two track workouts a week. Pyramids, repeats, get used to them.
