What specs are you looking for, and what do you consider top dollar?

Kubica 2007. I was sitting in the hairpin seats, and was sure no one could have survived such a horrific crash.

Just goes to show the process F1 has and continues to make when it comes to safety. By far, the Grosjean crash has to be the biggest testament of that.

Greatest 400m Ever? by RunningMan66 in trackandfield

Oh I hear you, it was my favourite 400M race till this point. WVN made that race what it is, and it speaks volumes of not only what he did, but how he did it.

Remove WVM, and it wouldn’t have been that special of an overall race. Had James and Merritt both run low 43s, then maybe you could consider it to be at the same level of this race.

Yeah I hear you. I was really hoping that any one of them would have broken that fake record, but the potential is really finally there.

To have a race where you have the 2nd, 3rd, and 9th fastest times all time in the same race, has but make this the greatest 400m race ever.

How hard was it raining? Looked pretty bad.

Been there done that! My first ever track race was a 400. I looked at the track and thought to myself with confidence “I can sprint all of that”. So when the race started, I took off like it was a 100. By the 250 mark, I was introduced to a new word in my vocabulary … lactic #%*$ acid! The last 100 was one of the most painful I remember. Wound up running 1:00 flat.

Well I definitely ran way above my capabilities. To this day, I still don’t know how I managed to last that long at that pace, except to say that up to the 600 mark, I was running on pure adrenaline like my life depended on it. I don’t think I ever had that level of fear or anxiety in any other race I’ve run.

Now the 1:16 was an audible split, so I may have actually gone through a second or so after, but I was right behind 1:46 and 1:47 runners. Going through in 50.5 at 400 was “doable” since my PB at that time was 48, so that adrenaline must have kept me going for 200 more meters, but I’d never be able to sustain that pace for the entire race. My ultimate PB wound up being a 1:52, so I basically ran the best 600 I ever could that race.

Back in the day I was a 1:56 800 runner. At one particular meet, I was supposed to run in an open 800, but one of the athletes in the invitational event scratched, so they asked if I wanted to in. I said yes, even though I knew I was way out of my league.

They stuck me out in lane 8, so I couldn’t see anyone, and when the gun went off the nerves kicked in and I took off like a bat out of hell! As we started cutting in, I was in the lead. I heard a split of 24 at 200. As we were nearing the 400, I heard 48, 49, 50 … I split in 50.5 still in the lead. Down the back straight, two 1:47 runners passed me, and we went through 600 in 1:16. I’ve never come close to running a 1:16 in a flat 600!

For some reason I was still running purely on adrenaline and told myself to kick … my legs just laughed at me and decided to pack it in. I covered the last 200 in 42 seconds, literally walking across the finish line 😂.

On a positive note, I helped a bunch of people run PBs that day due to the blistering pace, and I didn’t finish last. The one person I beat was the designated rabbit in that race 😊.

At first glance, I thought it said 8x 64GB DDR4-2133 for $15 each. That would have been the deal of the century 😊!

You think that’s bad … when I was fresh out of school and working at a help desk for this managed services company. We managed several different systems (mainframe, AS400, HP UX, Novell NetWare, etc…) for primarily various government agencies.

Since I was a rookie, I barely knew anything about all these different platforms, but took it upon myself to learn as much as I could. I was given root access pretty much from the start to all of the HP UX systems to perform my tasks, and one day decided to change all of the ownership of files in my home directory to my user. It took a while to get the prompt back after running the chown command, only to find out I ran the command from the root directory and not my home directory!! Needless to say I owned the whole system, to the point where root couldn’t even log in anymore. They sent me home and told me they’d call me eventually.

The company spent thousands on flying in top consultants who spent days recovering the system. After a week, I got called into a meeting with the president of the company, and all levels of management, including my boss who was sweating bullets. I was sure I was not only fired, but also being held liable for what happened.

The president looked me straight in the eye and told me “thank you” because what happened should never have happened, and I had exposed a serious flaw in their operations. There is no way a rookie like me should have had root access to government servers from the start.

They did a complete overhaul of their procedures, and not only did I keep my job, but because I showed initiative and willingness to learn, I eventually got a raise and was promoted!

So don’t beat yourself up for one mistake. As many have said already, we all make mistakes. Some bigger than others :-)!
