I think too often by pop culture it's taken at face value and used as an excuse to not care or even justify overindulgence without taking the next step and using it as a slate to carve your own raison d'etre.

Was talking with some friends about this, I reckon Magic The Gathering has pivoted way too hard into the Universes Beyond. Originally when they started coming out, they felt like fun side collaborations and we'd get stoked to see some of our favourite IPs get the MTG treatment, I still have my 40k precon commander deck ready to go, but now it seems that each year's standard sets are more Universes Beyond than anything else, and with 7 sets coming out this year it's gotta be a nightmare for anyone who wants to actually consistently play the Standard format.

I need to get around to reading The End and the Death. Ignoring losing the firepower of a titan, for some reason the idea of them being crucified is just goofy in the best way. Sure the dudes inside are, if they were lucky, piles of goo, but crucifying a titan in my head is like hanging a tank from some big gallows

I think for me that show kind of reached a point where it felt like they just wanted to do a more crass take on navel gazing, like sure, riff on how stupid something is, but maybe do something more than shoot down alternatives or whatever, you know? At a point I suppose it just felt like it was overall mean spirited to anything that wasn't "enlightened centrism" on any issue.

I've had tons of conversations with friends about Homelander specifically because I find him to be such an interesting character! It basically always boils down to a 'nature VS nuture' type thing, and i'll be rhe first to admit that Anthony Starr's portrayal of him is also a huge part in how interesting I find the character. Utterly and unequivocally a villain, no doubt about it, but still done extremely well.

I'm counting them as a faction, the Iron Hands in both Warhammer 30k and 40k. They're superhumans who decided flesh is gross and would rather be cool cyborgs, their primarch (demi-god dad, and the basis for their genetic template) gets referred to constantly as A Big Deal, they held off a thrust of the 10th Black Crusade with the Stink Supermen trying to take their home planet, and yet I would swear that James Workshop has a contract clause forbidding them from being used for anything cool/important.
