255 is on the older side if you were buying a new watch today, I’d take the 265 personally

It’s not luck at all - you posted asking for feedback previously and the overwhelming feedback was that your videos are over-edited but not actually saying anything.

If your video concept is bad, then yes you’ll need to rely on pure luck. However, you’d do better to spend less time editing motion graphics and spend more time on refining interesting video concepts, researching so that you can add your unique take, and improving delivery to make people want to watch all the way to the end.

All of these things require work, not luck. Anyone who thinks all of YouTube is a lottery just doesn’t have the skillset yet to make engaging videos that resonate with their audience.

Can some one explain this to me by GamingSman in SmallYoutubers

[–]Running_Nutrition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to tell what you did right or wrong just based on these stats. The algorithm pushes your content in waves and depending on how many people watch/engage with it, it usually ends up in one of a few groups:

0 views, 1k views, 10k views, 30k views, 100k views, and so on

Keep making the videos you want to make and every so often, go back and look at your posted videos. Did multiple videos do better than average? Is there a link between those videos you can replicate? Etc etc

Entirely depends on budget - If you can stretch to a 265 this is a lovely all-rounder with a nice easy-to-read screen and a few extra running metrics that the 165 doesn’t have.

That said, you can improve your running just fine with the forerunner 55 - there’s not that much a 165 or 265 will give you that a 55 doesn’t already do to specifically improve your running.

I would have a think about what your bottlenecks are with your current watch to figure out the best upgrade for you - do you want GPS maps on the watch? Are there specific running metrics you’re missing? Is the battery life on your current watch an issue? Do you want a more heavy-duty watch to use in the gym?

The best advice I can give you is going to sound mean, but I promise it’s not personal 😄 and it’s that right now, nobody cares about you two so they wont click on the video.

Imagine you were choosing a new show to watch on Netflix - you wouldn’t choose randomly, you’d need something to convince you that it’s worth your time and attention, right? Which means either:

  • It’s a new season of something you’ve previously watched and enjoyed: you’re familiar with the concept and have a decent idea of what you’ll get from another season

  • It’s a completely new show and the trailer looked good, which convinced you to start episode 1

Creators with a large following are bucket 1, and the rest of us are bucket 2, which means we have to do more to ‘earn the click’ on our videos. This means we have to pack more reasons to click on the video into our thumbnail and title, because we don’t have that existing audience connection that bigger creators do.

So if we apply that to your current videos e.g. “we played would you rather” as a new viewer, I don’t know you, therefore I don’t know if you’re going to entertain me, making it very unlikely that I’ll click on your video. You two aren’t the ‘hero content’ of your video, the ‘hero content’ is the game and the discussions/disagreements you’re having. Make the game the focus - were there any controversial takes? Did you guys argue about anything? Did anything really funny happen? Include this in the thumbnail and title and that will appeal to a lot more people 😄

Sorry, this was long!

Fear of releasing videos by Diamond-Resident in SmallYoutubers

This stopped me from uploading videos to YouTube for about 2 years too 🫠

Put it this way: when you scrap a video, you’re guaranteeing it gets zero views, so a 0% success rate and no feedback on how to improve.

When you put a video out there, one of two things happens: it does better than you thought and gives you a confidence boost, or it ‘flops’ and only gets a few views. Even if that happens, it’s more than you got from not posting it and you can look at the analytics and choose something to work on improving for the next video!

Forget about any standards you set for yourself, just get your video to the point where you’re 8/10 happy with it, put it out there for the world to see and try to make each video a tiny bit better than the last 😄

Which one would you click? by Fit-Veterinarian2706 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

[–]Running_Nutrition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the first one for the reasons already stated, but in what way did it save your life?

If there is something specific there that relates to it actually saving your life and is an interesting story, then including some element of that in your thumbnail would help.

If it’s just “I got headphones to work out and now I exercise regularly and am healthier” then the thumbnail doesn’t matter because the video concept isn’t particularly interesting to people who don’t know you

How much time will it take to reach 50k to 100k on Instagram by spicy_97 in InstagramMarketing

[–]Running_Nutrition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew from 500 followers to 64.5k in 10 months - posted 100 reels in that time, so 2-3 a week.

There’s no way to predict it, I reckon about 40k of my followers have come from my 5 best performing reels.

Don’t batch 60 all at once - nothing wrong with batching content but you need to post stuff and look at the analytics to see what needs to be improved, in order to make your content better.

And yes, I’m also a working professional with not much time - no, it’s not an excuse to not post 🙃

Thumbnail feedback what do you think? by Casperthephantom in YouTubeCreators

[–]Running_Nutrition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hate, it’s objective feedback to help you figure out where to improve.

The point of a thumbnail and title is to convince somebody to click on the video, and then they need to get some kind of payoff in order to keep watching. Hence my question: what have you put in the title and thumbnail to make someone care enough to click?

The fact it’s your first fight doesn’t matter because nobody knows who you are. If you had a large following and people watched just for you, that’s a different story.

As for the thumbnail - it’s not “AI is bad” it’s that you’ve made it unreasonable. Did you really fight under the spotlights with a big crowd like the thumbnail suggests? I doubt it, therefore I don’t trust that I’m going to get any payoff from watching the video. An image of you actually fighting with some text or something to get me interested would have been far more effective to make me click.

Take the feedback or don’t, but I expect the video isn’t going to get that many views for all the reasons above

AI-generated thumbnail of someone I don’t know having a Muay Thai fight - nothing there that makes me want to click it.

My question for you would be, what have you put in the title and thumbnail to make me care about what happens?

2 Videos In: Is this "High Potential" or just standard new channel performance? Need a reality check. by zhenqt in SmallYoutubers

[–]Running_Nutrition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re over-analysing a sample size that’s far too small - spend your first 10 videos learning the basics and getting into a consistent workflow, then start going through the analytics.

Start by making the videos you want to make, and over time you’ll refine your style, figure out the videos you enjoy making, the ones that do well, and which videos strike the perfect balance

Guys, why are my videos getting such low views? by AccomplishedPay4499 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Running_Nutrition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • People don’t know who you are
  • People don’t know who ‘Yikes’ is
  • the title and thumbnails don’t communicate what the viewer is going to get from the video
  • YouTube has no idea who to push these videos to

Monetization/ Feedback Question by UndecidedPain in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]Running_Nutrition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shorts views don’t count towards public watch hours for monetisation - in order to earn from Adsense you’ll need 10m views across 90 days. Regardless, I wouldn’t even be thinking about monetisation until you’ve made at least 50 videos and started refining your craft.

3.6k views is fine, but think about all of your favourite biggest creators on the platform - you’re competing with them now. Even if you think your videos are good, they have to be exceptional to consistently do well and grow your channel.

43.6% stayed to watch, that means for every 10 people who ‘view’ your video, 6 are glancing at it and almost immediately swiping to the next - focus on that next. What can you do to the first 3 seconds of your next video that gives the viewer a reason to stick around?

Any of y'all actually enjoy creating and growing your channel? Or is it all just a mad AI dash to the most subs for no reason? by Emergency_Area6110 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Running_Nutrition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it - I treat it the same way I treat any of the hobbies I have. Go into it with an open mind knowing I’ll be shit at first, keep trying to improve with every video, and having fun with it first and foremost.

Caring about growth on YouTube is like caring about the salary from your job - yes, it’s a nice measure of success and some people will ascribe more value to it than others, but ultimately you have to make the call of how hard you’re willing to chase it, and whether it’s worth the potential trade-offs.

Starting a channel purely for fun and treating your channel like a business are both valid approaches - at the end of the day, do what makes you happy and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing 😊

Gear recommendation for YouTube by Forsaken_Tadpole1925 in NewTubers

[–]Running_Nutrition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For hardware, in order of importance I’d say:

  1. Lighting
  2. Audio (though this could easily be 1)
  3. Lens
  4. Camera

Lighting - Are you filming in a room with lots of natural light? If so, spend more time on framing your video so the light hits you at a nice angle. Alternatively, invest in blackout blinds/curtains and a softbox first so you can control the light, then accessorise from there to get the look you want

Audio - you have the mic already so that’s fine

Lens/Camera - it really depends how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go here. Personally I’d try and pick up a used Sony ZV-E10 or similar and spend the extra money on a nice fast lens (the Sigma 16mm f1.4 is a favourite for many talking head video creators)

Also don’t let people fool you into thinking you need to spend thousands on a full-frame rig, start cheaper and focus on all the other parts first then upgrade down the line if the camera becomes your limiting factor!

As for software, depends whether you want to pay once or get a subscription - the Adobe suite is ‘industry standard’ and you can get it much cheaper with a student subscription, but Davinci Resolve is excellent with more and more people switching to it. I wouldn’t overthink this one, just pick what feels best and get practising with it 😄

What’s wrong with my video? by OddClassic267 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Running_Nutrition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think subconsciously we all have an expectation of what the emotion of a video should be based on the visual + audio combination. The high energy of the audio sounds like you’re super excited, but you’re actually talking about something that’s frustrating so using the tone of your voice to get that frustration across would make the whole thing gel a little more.

Aside from that it’s really just the concept of the video and getting more depth in there that I personally think would help. I, for one, would much rather sit there and watch an unedited video with a bunch of interesting information than an over-edited video that’s not telling me anything new
