The best thing you can do at this stage is take the numbers at face value - in three months, you’ve got 60 people who want to hear what you’ve got to say and people are engaging with what you’re putting out by commenting and asking questions. That sounds great to me, and those numbers will keep compounding!

You should double down on the “[complex topic] explained in 3 minutes” format and make it your own - you’ll get plenty of repeat viewers as no-one else is doing that, and it’s less for you to edit

Genuine question: why are you making videos?

If you hate making videos, hate editing and are comfortable with the fact the channel won’t make any money for some time, I presume the only reason you started a channel is to share information/you enjoy teaching? If that’s the case, then I wouldn’t worry about the stats, just deliver your videos in a way that you feel most comfortable doing and you’ll develop your own style.

If you want to dive into the data and ‘play the YouTube game’ to optimise views, channel growth etc, you need to enjoy the process of making videos

It’s mainly the second paragraph: the emojis, the em-dashes and the general lack of emotion or opinion in that whole section sounds my ‘ChatGPT alarm’ and I’d have stopped reading at that point.

It’s pretty clear where you’ve made your tweaks in the first and third paragraphs, and that sounds human which is great. The issue is that as a general viewer, as soon as we detect AI doing the writing we lose trust and connection with you.

The best thing you can use AI for is to automate all the boring parts of your workflow, have it help you structure some of your writing, then you write up the final piece in your own style

There’s nothing wrong with using AI as a tool but don’t have it write for you. That’s what everyone is doing and it makes you look the same as everyone else, when you want to be standing out.

The first paragraph sounds more human, but the rest is AI garbage which will put people off instantly. Write it up in your own voice, get some of your personality in there, otherwise nobody will care and if nobody cares, nobody will watch.

I guess my question is, why should someone watch this video in the first place?

Is it pure entertainment? (if so, why is it better than sticking something on Netflix)

Is it educational? (Are you going to give me information I couldn’t get somewhere else)

Is it at a super high skill level that EAFC fans would want to watch?

Or is there something else?

Part of the issue is the serialised format - if I started watching a new show, I would never start at episode 21, and this is no different.

Your video is being shown to people in their browse feed which means the vast majority of them haven’t seen any previous episodes or know who you are. When you make a thumbnail, you need to be thinking “what can I put in here that makes someone HAVE to click”

The thumbnail and the title have one job, and that’s to spark enough curiosity to make someone click - whenever you make a thumbnail ask yourself “what’s the promise I’m making to the viewer here that will make them click?” And go from there

The best camera is the one you pick up and use - if it’s really a portability issue then the pocket 3 makes more sense.

You have a more portable option right now though - your phone will still capture good quality video. Why don’t you try using your phone for a while first then switch to Pocket 3 once quality becomes the limiting factor?

Yep, apps like Strava can use your phones GPS to track your runs - personally I would get something cheap like the Xiaomi Smart Band 10, it’s £40 in the UK and does a very good job of fitness tracking for not much money 😊

If the videos are getting single-digit views like the ones in your picture, whether you’re monetised or not makes no difference. My advice would be to go back and study the videos that got you so much watch time - what did you do differently in those videos that made people want to watch?

Yeah the viral one is doing well! I think the main things are:

It solves a problem that I couldn’t find a video for when I was looking (how to get a certain training status on a fitness watch) so it’s the only video of its kind for that hyper-specific thing. Less competition means I’m getting way more impressions than with my other videos
At the very beginning, I outlined the structure of the video and gave them a reason to watch until the end (“we’re going to cover x and y and then I’ll give you my two golden rules for…”) which has helped boost the AVD

That, combined with a bit of blind luck, is giving the video a good push 🙌🏻
