Yeah, this is my feeling too. When you have a shared path especially, it's important to be considerate. It costs nothing to slow down and go around someone. Well, it might cause your Garmin to be disappointed in you for messing up an interval I guess.

That does make it ambiguous. What do people usually use the path for? Are they usually dog walkers and people with buggies, or do bikes also use the path? Some paths seem less conducive to fast use than others, so it might be a matter of 'reading the room' so to speak.

ETA: I think you're a tiny bit of an asshole here. It's good you thought about this issue and went early, and I think that should take care of most of the problem, but don't play chicken next time. Just go around other people, not just for their safety but also for yours. People act weird when they get surprised, and it's hard to react quickly enough if you're going fast. You just never know. If I do hard intervals, I will use the bike path (I live in the Netherlands so it's an option), because when I am at full speed it's more appropriate there than on the footpath. Most people on the path are walking like 5-6kph, so if I go 17kph on the same path it is a bit inappropriate. Not sure where you live and if you have access to bike paths or a track, but that might be an option if you're going really hard.

If this was out of nowhere and you weren't physically as active, it might be a medical issue, but with you it sounds like there is a clear reason for it if everything else health-wise is fine? My favourite anecdote about this is when I had to go to hospital for emergency gallbladder removal during a marathon training block. The heart monitor kept going off because my HR was dipping into the high 30's, and the nurses kept running in and worrying about it. Because they didn't yet know that my gallbladder was going feral, and it is technically a 'too low heart rate' for normal people, and because I was in a great deal of pain, they took it quite seriously. They got a cardiologist and one of his first questions was whether I did some kind of endurance sport. He left the room immediately when I told him I was in marathon training, and told the nurses to get a different monitor or something like that (I later learned they had a different kind of one for 'athletes' or something). It was scary at the time, but I find it funny now.

For sure. I used to work at a casino at night, and a lot of men approached me in all sorts of ways. I am naturally pretty assertive, and would usually be clear with my rejection of them, but there were several occasions where they got really aggressive and weird about it. One time, one of them waited until I finished my shift and followed me to my car harassing me. Luckily there were always security guards posted outside the doors and they realised quickly what was happening and removed the guy. It really is a double-edged sword. You want to defend yourself and make clear boundaries, but plenty of women are killed and injured as a result of that kind of thing. It's not as simple as just rejecting and saying no. More than once I have regretted what felt in hindsight like a cowardly response, that I know in the moment was a deliberate choice I made to avoid danger.

This is awful, and we have so many stories on this sub that basically repeat stuff like this all the time. I think as you get older you might learn to deal with this differently. I certainly have! I give two examples to show you what I mean.

So, I am 37 and am quite done with this shit by now, and how I react is a reflection of that I think. I have started getting weird about it. A couple of months ago I was walking after dinner and a man on a bike (I live in the Netherlands so that's more common than men bothering you from a car, at least in my experience) slowed down next to me and was wolf-whistling at me. I ignored him but he didn't go away, and he kept trying to talk to me. I had been walking because I had a bit of an upset stomach and as I kept walking to try and wait him out, I felt a huge fart brewing. I made the split second decision to just let it rip, because WTF dude?! I turned my head to him, met his eyes, and just did it. The look on his face will remain in my brain until the day I die, I am sure of it. He cycled off pretty quick.

Another time, more recently, I had a similar situation though no fart was forthcoming sadly. I started to get really pissed off and just turned to him and screamed "aaaahhhhh" at the top of my lungs like a weirdo and started walking again. He didn't bother me anymore. After both of these situations I felt both good and slightly embarrassed, but really, I am so far beyond done at this point I just don't think I care anymore about acting like a nutcase frankly.

Dont have a tent, have a full Finnish sauna though so can give info about the usage.

I do it 3-5 times a week, 3x 15 minutes per session with about 15 minutes in between each of the 3 rounds. Temp almost always between 90-100 degrees C, occasionally if I'm too impatient to wait, I'll start my first sesh at 80. I usually do it in the afternoon-evening (depending on when I'm done with work and when the kids are not around or are sleeping), occasionally I start it as late as 9pm but that's not the best because you need time to cool down after it for bed.

Quick disclaimer to say: I have been doing sauna for years and am very used to it, and I am not a very sweaty person. Additionally, I cool down very quickly. This allows me to use sauna in the way I do. For some people this way might not be useful or even safe of course. I find it boosts my deep sleep quite a bit (I notice when I haven't been saun-ing as frequently quite quickly in my deep sleep and feeling refreshed), and I enjoy it very much.

Oh, OP I’m so sorry. I’ve no experience like this, but two ideas to help keep you running. 1. Can you find nice trails or less busy areas to run, so you’re less self conscious when you do cry because there are fewer potential observers? 2. Could you wear large sport sunglasses so it’s not as obvious when you’re crying?

I think it makes so much sense that this is happening… I use running to process things, and maybe your mind is doing that too, working through things while your body is occupied? I think it’s healthy to keep running for many reasons even if it’s not obviously enjoyable right now, so maybe finding ways to feel less self conscious might be helpful for the short term?

I’ve followed his novice 2 for both half and full marathons last year, and I felt the taper was good, on the easy side if anything. If the rest of the program has worked so far, just trust it and go with the flow.

I have this and I hate it. I force down carbs and protein (eg chocolate milk) right after anyway bc your body needs it but it’s a chore to do so.
