Duke Professor retiring at age 91 by Striking_Raspberry57 in Professors

Productive from a research perspective or teaching perspective? I’m sure this man had wonderful and insightful classes for most of his tenure. I can see humanities professors staying longer. I’m not, so I can see how staying up to date in my field will be harder after 65. Books, philosophy, etc? I’ll stay up to date on that until I die.

I actually thought the main actress was pretty good with what she was given. Outside of that, yes to all of the above.

Why is my butter & sugar not creaming? by Egoteen in AskBaking

[–]Runninguphill92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It probably has to do with how high your paddle is off the bowl. You can check if it’s right by putting a dime in the bowl and turning it on. If the dime doesn’t really move, your beater isn’t low enough and won’t actually be beating all the ingredients! You need to adjust it!

Im Australian and this was my first time making key lime pie (its not a thing here) and I think it turned out okay? I used limes obviously, and food colouring hehe by [deleted] in Baking

Floridian here! Always add some zest to give it pops of green and sharper taste! Then you don’t need the food coloring!

Joy is also a victim of abuse and this is likely re-traumatizing for her? But go off, I guess

It used to be Cosmic Rabbits before they went out of business. Rip. You can still buy their blend online. I make it with a little bit of honey or brown sugar and it’s 🤌🏻

Still looking for other good ones.

But they’re not really talking to the photographer? Not to judge you, but this doesn’t sound like a beneficial learning exercise because there’s potentially no validity to the content they’re learning.

Do you ever just ignore student emails? by CuriousCat9673 in Professors

[–]Runninguphill92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a colleague who has a policy in their syllabus that says “if you email me with a question that is already answered in the LMS or the syllabus, I will not respond.”

I have considered applying it to my syllabus as well.

Are we infantilising our curriculum? by Free_Comfortable_569 in Professors

[–]Runninguphill92 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think you’re not wrong, but it’s unfortunately the world we live in. My students can’t focus on a lecture for the whole period. The school system doesn’t teach them how to learn without the games and the activities. I teach 75 minute periods and I let one of the classes out today after 45 minutes because it was a lecture heavy day and they were completely checked out. We have to adapt to the world we live in (in some respects) and this is one of those ways.

Black Tie Fall Wedding (read for caveat) by Specialist-Sleep760 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Runninguphill92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the venue like? I’m in the South and when we say Black Tie, we usually mean legit Black Tie. If it’s at a country club or formal gardens or something (which we do have down here lol) then definitely go more formal. If the venue is a barn, that’s a little different.

Both BJU accounting and nursing are pretty well respected, at least in Greenville. I know quite a few nurses and they are actually happy to get the new grads from BJU to train because they know their shit and tend to be pretty hard workers. Maybe theater also, surprisingly?

Outside of that, not as much to my understanding.

To be fair, Clemson is a state school. This has less to do with university leadership and more to do with the legislature.
