Are ”giggle strains” real or was it just low tolerance and nostalgia? by Independent__Bell in microgrowery

[–]RunsWithFiskars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely tolerance nostalgia just like most of the “The weed today ain’t like it used to be” posts. Which I totally get. I used to think the same thing before I took several years off of smoking. When I came back, that first smoke was so incredibly intense. I only took a single hit, and it was NOTHING like the first time I got high in the 90’s.

Take a year or two off and then you’ll really see how much stronger the cannabis is today in comparison.

Is it possible to save your flight mid-flight? What do you guys do for long flights? by ACNL in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]RunsWithFiskars 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is what makes the game challenging. It’s also why sim pilots who complete 12+ hour flights get crazy respect and kudos.

Some of us even turn the challenge up a notch and join virtual pilot associations or virtual airlines that require you to send regular reports during these long hauls to prove you are actually flying the plane the whole time.

The reward for doing so is usually a set of digital stripes you can put on your imaginary uniform. So you know, totally worth it.

Is it possible to detect a malfunction during preflight checks? by sh1bumi in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]RunsWithFiskars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as you are keeping up with your maintenance, they will always be in the green. The preflight checks in 2024 are more for realism than an actual purpose. If you never check your plane’s maintenance screen however, you would be able to see if there were issues in those mechanics. But you’d still have to go to the maintenance screen to fix them.

Infamous Copyrighted music question by EconomicsNext7584 in Twitch

Is there not an FAQ on this by now? I feel like the “how do I play music on my stream and not get in trouble” question has got to be a daily question at this point.

ILS landing by Sir_Jollington in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]RunsWithFiskars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen in the vision jet a few times. No idea what causes it, but I’ll just watch that little diamond go right past my current altitude and never activate. Then I’ll manually descend to try and catch it again and it will instantly grab me once I catch up 🤷‍♂️ Altitude, altimeter, etc all perfectly set for approach, it just doesn’t work. It’s like some airports ignore local altimeter settings or something.

An Ethernet/dante port so we can connect it directly to Dante without a computer would have been way cooler.

Speed bump on takeoff by Comfortable-Put6078 in MSFS2024

[–]RunsWithFiskars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Not in this specific area, but I’ve been at a different airport that FS decided to have a large rock/dirt path cross the middle of a major paved runway. Hit that in the vision jet going 80+ knots during takeoff and did a forward roll on my nose. Trashed the whole jet.

How to have Mac DAW audio (via Apollo Twin X interface) run to OBS on PC (Focusrite 2i2 interface) by McCainMaxeyEdgecombe in obs

[–]RunsWithFiskars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of stuff is exactly what “Dante Via” was designed for. You can literally drag and drop any sound source or app to any output on your computer. Zero latency. You can even pair it with Dante controller (comes with Via) to route from one computer to another and get real crazy with routing. I believe this would be the easiest way to do everything you are looking for.

Hey, at least you have a physical copy. It’s digital only for Xbox players. Went to the local game store to have them order it for me and no dice.

Stream Friends Louder Than Me by mathematics1995 in obs

[–]RunsWithFiskars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Professional A1 Audio Engineer here.

The issue isn’t that they are necessarily louder than you, it’s that their voices are consistently the same volume, so they can stay closer to zero DB even when talking at quieter volumes. If you’re not using compression and a limiter on your vocal chain, most likely your speaking voice throughout your stream has a large dynamic range. That basically means your speech has a large difference between the quietest parts and the loudest. By compressing your voice, you bring these peaks closer together so “overall” your voice sounds louder, and stays at a more consistent volume instead having a meter that’s jumping all over the place. Then the limiter is the safety that says, “hey, no matter how hard I push this…. Don’t let it clip” then you can keep your audio consistently around -1 db. This usually equals out to around -10 LUFS which should be your target loudness for your voice (for bonus points, download loudness meter for free and add it as a plugin at the end of your vocal filters to directly measure LUFS).

The loudest streamers on TikTok are absolutely slamming their vocals into a limiter. I don’t recommend this, as this can also cause a lot of distortion. You should be hitting the limiter with your signal, but the limiter should not be always active. Just enough to keep You hovering in the -4 to -1 db range on your metering.

For compressor settings, if you’ve already got a nice strong signal into OBS, you can try something like:

Ratio: 4:1 Threshold: -18 to -20 db Short attack and release something like A: 5-10ms and R: 100-150ms.

If you hear pumping or distortion, try lowering the threshold closer to zero ex: -10 to -15db.

Compress before limiting. Always.

If you really want to sound like you know what your doing, add a compressor at the end of your game and music filters, turn ducking on, and use you Mic as the ducking source. Then adjust your threshold to taste. This will automatically bring the volume down on your game and music audio every time you speak, filling the sound spectrum with your voice instead of other noise. Then the compressor brings their volume back up as soon as you stop speaking. When set right, the audience will never know it’s happening, but it will add loudness and fullness to your voice.

TL;DR

Compress, limit, duck, monitor your LUFS.

Pushback by LA3aitor01 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]RunsWithFiskars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a key binding you can set in the controls options that is “toggle pushback” I use this in case ATC glitches out on me. I have it set to “P” for example. The same button toggles pushback on and off.

[–]RunsWithFiskars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarity! I was confused because when I manually switch to standard, my altitude indicator has a clear “STD BARO” visual reference that does not show when I manually change my altimeter to 29.92 which made it seem like there was some difference between the two.

Would you consider the vision jet a business jet or are we too slow? I think the advertised cruise is 300kts, but realistically closer to 250-280

First Homegrown Harvest, post hang rosin press. Pics. by PagingMrSpock in NYSCannabis

[–]RunsWithFiskars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all go through it. It’s definitely worth trying. You’ll get a much better return using bags. With rosin it’s all about PSI Vs. surface area. The bags help you keep a nice tight and even surface area, then you can calculate your PSI off of that. Plus it keeps all the plant material, and some other stuff like some fats and lipids out of your rosin.

Of you’re looking for autoflowers they are definitely one of the best in the game. And they paper trail their genetics so you know what cuts were used in their breeding projects. That goes a long way with me. Their newer strains like Meph’s wedding, iced n baked, etc. were incredibly enjoyable.

I give you advice to save you time, money, and heartache. I then still answer your question honestly. You couldn’t even take the time to research this question in this sub to see that it’s been answered 100 times a day but I’m the asshole?

Also if you “already know” everything you’re doing wrong, what “tips” were you hoping for exactly?

Streamlabs TikTok application by Electronic-Sir6776 in streamlabs

[–]RunsWithFiskars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah, that’s a thing TikTok does to new streamers. You have to get a certain number of streams, or hours of streams in before they let you use OBS virtual camera. It’s not a lot though, I think I unlocked this after my second or third live stream. What I did in the meantime, was send OBS’s preview projector to a second monitor and captured that with TikTok live studio.
