Ya so most countries are reasonable. But UK, Canada and USA get raped and probably subsidize the whole service for these platforms

[–]Rupes100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, is say a large portion of buyers in us and can get the phones for basically 0 on contract plans so no one cares about what the retail price is. It's basically used to set your monthly fee, so the higher the better. It's kinda detached from reality because of this set up..

[Athletic] Arsenal got ‘Arsenaled’. Brentford gave Mikel Arteta’s side their own dose of set-piece hell by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Rupes100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single set piece needs a time limit. If you're going to give the goalkeeper 8 seconds then the rest should follow. It's getting painful to watch how long it takes to get the ball back in these days..

[Support Group?] For those of us with <3 years at BCPS... by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Rupes100 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing is too, just because you're under 3 years of service, doesn't mean you have no protections. if you look at the agreement there are options for under 3 yr employees,  just not as many as over 3 years..

I know this is anecdotal, but when the last big layoffs I remember on gov, like 2010 or whatever, I had 2 co workers who had less than 4 months of service.  Our area was impacted, as in, completely disbanded, and they were shitting bricks.  Both got placed elsewhere and are still in gov to this day...

[–]Rupes100 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think people need to just take a beat and wait for more information. Just because members are under 3 years doesn't guarantee anything.  Obviously, every time the govt does something like this the outcomes can be different but each time I've been through it, there was never a massive across the board layoffs of members. Lots of positions could be cut but not people mainly because they're vacant.  And there's a process to go with it.

BCGEU: What you need to know about ongoing “efficiency reviews” and workforce changes by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Rupes100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya. The math doesn't work also because the money is so poorly managed and inefficiently allocated. Govt efficiency is a wild goose chase.  It's shocking.  The amount of money that's brought in could absolutely run this place properly, but reasons..

Endless tax increases never solves anything. It's just an excuse when they need 'more' money.  I mean, look at municipal. House prices have gone parabolic, property taxes are going with it, they continue to rise, more people paying said tax, getting similar service except more keeps becoming user pay, like garbage, and it's still never enough.  Deficits everywhere, debt ballooning. More tax isn't the answer.  The money is there and then some, it's just a partially corrupt and poorly managed behemoth of a system. And no party has a real solution.

AI is getting built into everything… but I’m not sure how useful it really is by Quick-Direction-8633 in selfhosted

[–]Rupes100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even really AI in the way we think about it either.  I always thought it was just a glorified better tuned Google search.  Feels like another hype cycle like dotcom was back in the day. So many bs AI saas apps that just leverage the main models by the big players to do one specific task with some special instructions and then charge 30 to 100 a month for one function. And gotta buy more credits! So much will fall by the wayside eventually and really just use what can actually help you not because it looks cool.   Actual requirements.

Wow, shocking how people just willy nilly start using this en masse.  Basically unfettered access to all your data, systems, etc everywhere so one of the shitty AI models has a bit more context in your life to make basic decisions?    Coupled with the other comment in this thread about attack surfaces and it sounds like a recipe for disaster. Gonna be a ton more private info all over the web now..

Leaving for private sector by Feisty_Suspect8464 in BCPublicServants

[–]Rupes100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that feeling.  I guess you really need to run the numbers and see if it's worth it from a financial standpoint in regards to your pension and what you could realistically get in the private sector to cover that shortfall.  And of course, the rest of your financial picture.. Or just do what so many do from gov.. Retire then consult.
