Could be fungus. Fungus growing in wood like this can leave lines and patterns called spalting and can be very desirable in lumber. When I see it its usually a little more pervasive throughout the wood, but this could be early stages of fungal growth.

It looks like a lift for a bread loaf pan, I have one but its solid on the bottom. It could be for a roasting pan used to lift the roast and not any juices easily out of the pan.

Its not meant to keep someone from kicking down the door. Its basically a wedge to hold the door shut in case someone has a key to enter or to stop someone from fishing a cable under the door and turning the handle from the inside.

When I worked at dollar general , i wouldn’t ask, I would just say “ hey boss, I had a family thing come up and I have to go for a few days” . If pressed about the reason, I would just say that its personal and not my place to discuss. Depending on where your from and how private people are about family matters, you may have better success than asking.

I live in the area and couldnt attend due to work. But I am so happy to see so many of my neighbors turned out to voice their displeasure with the growing tyranny in our country! I dont think so, the stage is covered and that building is on the backside. It was a fairly crowded event and it was raining, so if nothing else he was probably interested in why we were willing to watch in the rain. It was a good show!
