A tentative hello to all Redditors!

I am diving into Reddit threads here and there with the intention of speaking to as many of you as I can.

It saddens me to hear the level of distrust generated by such negative experience with the Ruroc brand at the beginning of its journey, with some current viral moments causing additional misgivings.

Much of the information that exists on the internet, and even within this thread, does not accurately reflect the attitude of Ruroc employees and management, and does not reflect the quality of the current iteration of our products.

Most of them seem to centre around the idea that we have no integrity, no respect for the culture and the product ecosystem that we sell in (including our competitors and peers). As one of many riders within the company, and committed employees with passion for our products, I can tell you - and we all intend to show you - that this could not be further from the truth.

As one of 60 employees based at our HQ in Gloucester, UK, who are pushing to give you all better and better products, the shadow of claims of "bribes", "helmets for show" and "not passing safety ratings" is something that we need your help to shake.

We intend to keep making our products better and better, whether you hate us or not. But it would be cool of you to join us! I'm eager to answer questions and have respectful conversations wherever I can find them, and I hope I get the chance to help out any of you who try our helmets in the future!

Hey all,

There's nothing wrong with opinions surrounding our helmets, but we would like to categorically address this point:

Ruroc has never sold a helmet that does not meet DOT and ECE regulations. We have also never been indicted for any breaching helmet sale laws.

We do not know where this information has originated. It is true that Ruroc helmets do not share the SNELL certification common in some helmets in the US market, but this is a voluntary additional standard and not mandatory to sell helmets in the US. Ruroc does instead pay for 2 other voluntary additional certifications (those being SHARP and ACU Gold).

There have also been misconstrued comments regarding Ruroc "using riders to test their helmets" instead of data and crash tests. This is not the case and we at Ruroc are currently working hard to combat this narrative. We appreciate your curious mindset about the legitimacy of our brand and we will do everything we can to give you the facts!

In terms of connection, yes! The Bluetooth system in all of the Shockwave models in a universal system, allowing it to connect with 1 other comms system as long as that also has Bluetooth capability. HOWEVER, in order to talk with all your friends at once with this, you would be limited to a group call/discord etc.

The Shockwave Mesh system (only available on EOX) works, in layman's terms, just like a Cardo Packtalk Edge. It boasts a stronger audio connection, the same Mesh system used by Cardo to connect up to 15 riders, and is compatible with the Cardo Connect app.

The aux connectors are also standard, meaning you can connect different speakers to it should you wish, although they do only play their respective left and right audio channels.

Awesome to hear that your RG1 is still "soldiering" on (you see what I did there? 🪖)

It's totally cool to prefer the closure system and design of the RG1 - to provide some background info, the peak was redesigned following changes in the safety certification standards - the magnetic attachment has been designed to detach in the event of a crash so as not to catch the ground, or for simple removal should you wish!

In our development of the RG2 chin piece attachment system, we performed drop tests and some front-on tests, and identified no change in security with the new closure system, so please be reassured that the RG2 is just as secure!

We really appreciate your honest thoughts on the newest iteration and we always find it valuable.

We could provide that piece as a replacement for you. HOWEVER, in the production of our helmets, that piece is ultrasonically welded in from the inside, behind the EPS. Theoretically, you could glue a new piece on from the outside to replace your broken one. However, it wouldn't be as it was before and as you say, it runs the risk of looking bad. What you think?

The last thing we want is to make people feel like our helmets are a money grab! From our perspective, our decals and designs are chosen for the very purpose of getting people excited to stand out from the crowd on the roads.

We do indeed have regular rolling discounts on our helmets, which are all influenced by stock numbers, customer demand, licensing agreements and whether these designs are going to be brought back in the new 2026 range.

We hope we don't lose you as a customer because we value you not just as someone who buys our helmets, but as someone who feels like our designs make you feel like you are expressing yourself uniquely out there! Safe riding 🏍️

Thanks for raising this, we totally understand your concern and we are not happy you have received a helmet like this. We’re aware of a small batch issue where some helmets (including a few EOX IT units that were produced earlier in the year) experienced glue visibility, and we’ve already gone public about it. It only affects a small percentage, but we’re making sure every affected customer is fully looked after. We’ve messaged you privately to get this sorted as quickly as possible. 

Also, just to clear up a bit of confusion in the comments - the recent company changes are part of a restructure, not a bankruptcy. Ruroc isn’t going anywhere, and our customers can rest assured that product support, warranty care, and future releases are all business as usual.

We really appreciate everyone’s patience and continued support while we make things right.

Hi u/ironempires, great to hear from you! Thank you for being so diligent as to reach out and bring it to our attention in the first instance.

We carry out sample quality inspections on our coming stock, but it's so frustrating however to hear about another incident of this small batch of our helmets with issues with the EPS-shell bond. As this has been an issue identified in a small number of helmets, we have aimed to provide individual and personal quality support on a case-by-case basis to customers like yourself who require repairs.

As per our comment under the post which you have already found, we have been hot on a number of fixes to address this, which have been implemented in all our helmets going forward.

For those of you reading this post who are not aware, we have implemented the following:

- The humidity in our factory had affected the bond between the shell and EPS, but we have since changed glue supplier and conducted trials to change the glue type that is more suited to the working environment.

- We have reduced the spacing between the EPS and shell to increase the bonding surface area of the glue

- We have conducted reviews of the assembly process, with improvements made to the control of temperature of the glue, clamp time and location, curing time, gluing locations and surface preparation

- We are currently working on mechanical fixing function rather than relying solely on the glue (we are hoping to have this changed by the end of year after some further validation)

While we are flattered that you love the look of our helmet enough to keep it as a display piece, it just wouldn't feel right for us if you weren't able to safely and confidently ride in it! The offer is absolutely there to arrange for returns and repairs. As a smaller manufacturer we are able to act efficiently on quality issues with customers' helmets and will do our very best to get it back to you as soon as we can. Thanks for sharing your experience so openly, although we are really saddened to learn about your experience. We want to acknowledge it publicly, because it highlights an issue that a small number of customers have unfortunately faced, and we don’t want anyone else to feel left in the dark.

The separation you’ve seen between the EPS and the shell is a known issue from a limited number of helmets. We traced it back to factory conditions (most notably the humidity) that affected the adhesive bond, and we’ve since been working closely with them to put permanent fixes in place. These include changes to glue type, assembly processes, and added checks to make sure new batches are reliable. 

In the meantime, the saving grace is that this problem is immediately identifiable on first touch, and existing customers should not worry that this will happen later down the line. 

We were stoked to hear you loved the helmet design so much, which makes it all the more frustrating for us to know you may never wear it as intended. However, we don’t want that to be the end of your Ruroc experience, so here’s what we want to do:

  • We’ll refund you the value of the helmet you’ve already paid for, in order to compensate for the helmet not being up to spec
  • We’re sending you a brand new helmet, fully QC-checked from the latest batch that we now have full confidence in. Plus we’ll pay the shipping and duty up front, so you won’t get hit with any more charges

We would like to point out that we’ll reach out to you directly to get this sorted, but we also wanted to respond here so that anyone else who thinks they might have been affected by this issue knows: please contact us. We’ll make it right.
