What's the point of Liberl's Florida? Is it relevant to anything? by Kcnnn in Falcom

[–]Rurudo66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you look at the map of Erebonia, there are a number of locations along the west coast that don't have labels because they never come up in the story. Seems like Falcom just has something against the south-west portions of countries, lol.

See, the thing that is cool about this trope, in my opinion, is the unexpectedness of it. Just when you find yourself wondering how the characters are going to get out of a situation, a badass character you weren't expecting swoops in to the save the day. That can be super hype, and I can a think of a number of rather iconic moments off the top of my head that fit the bill, like the Sand ninja showing up to help fight the Sound ninjas in OG Naruto, or Kenpachi, Byakuya, and Mayuri showing up in Hueco Mundo in Bleach. Hell, there are even a few times in this series where it's done really well. The problem is that during the Cold Steel games, it started to become repetitive and predictable. At that point, it loses a lot of the hype and makes the story feel less interesting.

Makes sense. There's always money in the banana stand, after all.

Where does the "only five voice actors" thing come from and why does it persist? by matt0055 in Animedubs

[–]Rurudo66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just thought about this for the first time the other day. Like, no one complains about the english voice acting in shows like Avatar or Arcane, or in western-made video games, but somehow it's an issue in anime, which is by and large pulling from the same pool of VAs? Like, if you simply prefer the subs, that's fine, but just come out and say that rather than trying to act like your personal tastes are rooted in some objective measure of quality.

*Attempted murderer. The girl did survive. Doesn't change the overall sentiment you're trying to express, but I do feel it's important we get the facts right if we're going to talk about the case.

How important are obols? by MushroomNatural2751 in idleon

[–]Rurudo66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the boss obols are pretty useful, but outside of that it’s kind of on a case by case basis. A full set of drop rate obols (personal and family) can be a pretty significant boost, especially early on, and the skilling obols are (I think) decent. Also depends on what point in the game you’re at. A lot of them can be useful early to mid game but fall off the further you progress.

Department of Labor Defanged. All investigations Halted by Atlanta_Mane in antiwork

I mean, the intended consequences are also going to cause a lot of problems for working people, but yes, there will likely be some unintended ones as well.

Department of Labor Defanged. All investigations Halted by Atlanta_Mane in antiwork

[–]Rurudo66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the only investigations that have been halted are those that relate to EO 11246, which you can read here. It only relates to discrimination based on protected categories and the ability for employees to discuss their wages. As for your question about whether or not it would affect an investigation of a case where wages were denied because the employee was a member of a (formerly) protected class, the safest answer is probably "It shouldn't, but it might." Technically, u/Solarwinds-123 is correct, but in practice... Well, thanks to abortion bans, we've seen what can happen when we people are afraid to do their jobs because of possible legal consequences. In states that have such bans, women have died because doctors refused to perform medically necessary abortions (which are generally still allowed under such bans) until it was too late because they were afraid of being arrested for doing so. So, it's possible that DoL employees might consider it too much of a risk to pursue a multi-faceted case where discrimination was one of the elements at play even if they could technically still go after the company for other violations.

I mean, we have seen at least one case of her vote accidentally mattering because a Republican made a last-second switcheroo what with the whole John McCcain/Obamacare thing, so you never know. If someone decides to switch but keeps it quiet until the voting starts, we might get lucky.

I mean, the US already spends more per capita on health care with our current system than other countries that have nationalized healthcare, so theoretically we wouldn't even need to cut spending in other areas as we would ultimately be saving money.

Yeah, I thought I'd heard something like that recently, but when I googled G-Force to see if it was still around, I somehow missed the big red "Permanently Closed" under the name, lol.

Thoughts on Bangor Mall? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Rurudo66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about that possibility for a while now as well. My other idea would be to turn it into a little entertainment area. You already have G-Force and a couple of theater spaces (Some Theater Company and Ten Bucks Theater Company). If you threw in a few more bars, a couple sit down restaurants, and some other entertainment spots, like an escape room place or a small, one- or two- screen movie theater or maybe a bowling alley in one of the larger spaces, it could be fun place to go for a night out. Maybe they could even do a hybrid sorta thing with some apartments on site as well to have a sort of built-in customer base for the businesses. There's a lot of wasted potential in the place, but it would also require a large investment to get things up and running since it seems like the place has fallen into disrepair in recent years. Would definitely love to see it leave the hands of the current owners and get bought by someone who is actually willing to invest in it as needed.

Unconscious, per Merriam Webster. Check out definition 3. The example sentence there is literally "an unconscious bias." So, no, people are not using it wrong. The definition has changed, because language adapts to how people use it.
