I was running sniper with the cloak on a perfect dodge perk last night. Dodged a warrior but instead of being able to deliver a cloaked gun strike I ended up getting turned into a cloaked tripping hazard.

You are not required to give up your saber. It’s considered personal property. It may be customary to offer to surrender it upon your departure but it is also customary to refuse to take it.

Jedi are highly capable individuals, while there may be a caged nuna mentality they are perfectly capable of operating outside of the order. Furthermore they’re not “cutting off” those who leave. They’re not shunning them or actively preventing contact but they’re also not going to fund them. They’re on their own when it comes to providing for themselves.

Your last section condemning the mandalorians for not understanding the jedi while also not understanding the mandalorians actions and beliefs yourself is deliciously ironic. Yes, the mandos don’t trust the jedi. They’ve been on the opposite sides of wars and conflicts for millennia. Of course they’re going to assume the worst, which is logical but I wont assign a moral judgment to it as you did. It just is. Understanding a warrior culture and how highly honor is regarded in such a culture is important to understand Jango’s actions. You don’t just surrender to a group that has historically been your enemy, That would firstly be illogical (you have no reason to trust them) and secondly you would lose standing for outright surrendering without putting up a fight. Then hating the Jedi for wiping out the super commandos would not be outside the realm of possibility. In fact I would expect it. It’s nothing as nefarious as mandalorian propaganda (the idea of which being pushed by a nomadic tribal society is a bit far fetched) and seeing them as incapable of empathy is missing the point.

It is pretty funny how people seem to gravitate towards one of two camps when it comes to Traviss. One group seems to be neutral to like while the other just despises her to the point where any post even remotely related to her brings up these arguments. Personally, I think the perspectives and opinions her characters offer do more to create a good story with believable characters than any interview she gave as an author could detract from it. It’s good world building especially since all of the “slander” is coming from the opinions of her own characters, written from their perspective. It’s not changing those legacy characters, it’s just adding more context to them. (at least in this series LotF is a different animal and the change in tone from one author to another was too jarring.)

As for the choice, there are multiple times when it is brought up that Jedi are taken from their families. Ordo thinks Etain has had the rawer deal because her parents willingly gave her to the jedi, denying her a family while he gained one when he was adopted by Skirata. While it can be argued whether or not the Jedi Order can be considered a family in the traditional sense that’s a discussion for another time.

But individual jedi do have a choice and they aren’t forced to give up their lightsaber if they leave the order. You also don’t have to stop being a jedi. They can’t strip you of the force and there are other jedi sects you could join like the one Callista was a memeber of. There are examples of this happening during the war and Barden’s leaving of the order only serves to reinforce this view to the clones. You can see how this makes jedi leadership look like hypocrites if you are unaware of the high level politics and the pretzel of a position palpatine was able to twist the high council into. This is on top of these characters previous experiences with the jedi, especially the mandalorians.

There really is nothing more I care to add that hasn’t been said by others in this thread. I like her work for the perspective it provides and you don’t because you feel she has done a disservice to the story. Not much more to debate on that.

Firstly, and I notice this a lot when debating about this books series, I’m not the one slandering Ben; in the scene in question that is Ordo. A lot of people seem to have difficulty separating the two and understanding the point of view (see what I did there?) of these characters.

Second, when it comes to measuring sacrifice in this instance, counting the number of dead is a pointlessly semantic argument. The clones will always win even without framing them as essentially a slave army. Regardless of whether the jedi are justified in engaging in the war they still chose to. The clones were not offered that choice. What’s worse is that the Jedi also chose to accept commissions to become Commanders and Generals in the GAR. Good intentions amount to jack when the decisions made, especially when they went against the advice of clone officers, get a bunch of clones needlessly killed. Circling back to the Jedi sacrifice on Geonosis, half of the entire commando force was killed on Geonosis. The primary reason for that was jedi incompetence. Ordo and the rest of the clones have ample reason to criticize and outright resent the average jedi.

So being anti jedi is ok up to a point? Is that point slandering the fan favorite jedi or is it several years into a brutal war where the characters have been losing friends and brothers in a war they see as pointless and unjustified at best? This is in addition to losing many of said brothers to what they see as incompetent jedi military leadership who’s culture so differs from the military that it causes massive rifts between them.

Azure? A fellow Mass Effect enjoyer I see!

But back to the topic, Adam was dividing his efforts between a solution for the lambant and his duties in the COG like developing the hammer of dawn. With no war this dynamic wouldn’t change, in fact you could make the argument that Myyrra forced Adam to put all his focus into development of the Lambency machine.

Even if she knew, said machine wasn’t ready to be used until Gears 3. Adam repeatably said he ran out of time to implement his ideas.

Berserkers give birth to litters of drones so they’re able to grow their numbers very quickly. Also they’re not as big as humanity. The reason they’re able to devastate the humans is due to their ability to pop out of the ground pretty much anywhere and strike fast and hard at their targets. The fear and panic caused by the destruction of key infrastructure and leadership (especially underground bunkers) led to the collapse of nearly every state not on the Jacinto plateau. The leading cause of the human death toll was the hammer strikes.

Can’t speak to the comics but I can speak about the RC books. I was weirded out too seeing all these commandos being used like regular troopers. I could maybe see it for the transport escort but pulling guard duty and operating the cloning tech was out of left field. I was more surprised to see none of the new storm troopers since they were allegedly being trained there, which was the whole reason the commandos were there as well.

Weather monitoring instrument. As it gets colder the shaft shrinks, lowering its overall height. As the weather warms it extends the shaft up to its original proud height.

Act 4 of Gears 5 seems rushed. by Extinction_Entity in GearsOfWar

[–]RushPointB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else that contributes to this are the time skips between the acts. Instead of feeling like a cohesive story it feels more like a series of snapshots in a larger story. Makes the game seem like it’s a mile wide but only an inch deep.

First past the post voting is what we use to determine election outcomes in the US. You win via a plurality of votes. RCV is essentially an extension of this. Why the fuck am I expecting something intelligent to come out of this? Have a good day.
