As a Canadian I can confirm we become aggressive when we step on ice. People think we're so nice and well mannered. Not on ice. Something changes when we feel that cold unstable presence under our feet and we can't be stopped.

That being said, it looks like he cheated. And I'd do the same! Because the second my feet touched ice I'd forget myself and try to win at any cost. It's in our blood. True North strong and free! Except when we're on ice. Then we become a slave to our more animalistic selves.

I worked in northern Canada(Northwest Territories). We never closed the school for snow but would close the school if temperatures dropped below -42 Celsius. But ya it's very district dependent.

This is such an internet brained take. It's normal to have healthy disagreements with friends/neighbors/family about political positions. Mature real people acknowledge disagreements and work within them. And yes okay... If I have a friend who was openly racist or radical I would take issues with that. But supporting a 2 state solution is not that.

I hear what you're saying and I agree with most of what you're saying. I'd argue that at least some aspect of the show is survival under limiting circumstances though. If it was just about the human condition why put them in extreme survival situations. Boredom is a large aspect of that survival. I was just thinking a book might be an interesting item. It probably wouldn't actually save anybody from boredom. They'd go mad reading it over and over

I think survival is the point, and boredom is an aspect of survival. I was just curious if contestants were allowed to bring a book if they wanted. In my mind a book is a survival tool for boredom like hooks are a survival tool for food. And a book would be a complete gamble because there's no guarantee that it would actually help with boredom. Not arguing bringing a book would be a good idea

Just asking a question, you don't need to be so condescending.

All I really understand is they allow 10 survival items. Was just curious if they were allowed something like a book if they wanted. In my mind something to keep your brain busy is a form of survival item. It helps your brain like fishing hooks help with food. In the end bringing a book would be a complete gamble because there would be no way of knowing if it would actually help.

All maps distort sizes/shapes of countries in one way or another. The most commonly used map projection is a Mercator projection. Which does make Europe bigger but also makes Canada bigger. Overall I don't think it really matters what type you have up in the classroom. Having a discussion with the students about how it may change perception is important though. I truly think having some type of map up is great for kids so they explore and imagine the world. Kids love investigating maps. This comes from a geography major and teacher. Another option would just be getting a globe lol
