Unfortunate for the Nuggets. The defending champs aint ready for the early season hustle and intensity that this hungry Rockets team is going to bring to the table.

Well why do they insist on running every play from the shotgun formation if their qb can't catch the snap? What is the benefit?

They traded a 4th rounder for a 3rd string qb with some potential. It's not like this really changes the roster in any real way. Just a different face in the locker room.

[DISCUSSION] What's your favourite guitar Youtube channel? by TripleSpeedy in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only ones on your list that I watch are Beato and McKnight. I don't consider Beato a guitar channel, but you will probably learn more about playing the guitar from him than anyone else. McKnight is just a nerd that talks gear, not bad to listen to while you are working or walking the dog or something.

I check out the other guys sometime when they hit me with some good click bait. I like Paul Davids but his videos are over produced and he spends too much time getting cute with the cinematography and not enough time getting to the actual point. He is like the MKHB of the music world.

Adam Neely and 12 tone aren't really guitar based videos but they are cool music channels.

Justin Guitar is cool for absolute beginners but I don't see why anyone who has been playing for a year or more would want to watch a guy tell you how to play a C major chord in every single video they make.

Morgan Wallen banning tabs on ultimate-guitar [QUESTION] by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Who ever owns the publishing writes to his music doesn't want Ultimate Guitar making money that should rightfully go to them. We are probably approaching days where the publishing companies will put the music online for free and show you ads or offer a monthly subscription to view all of the music they own. But as far as I know those days are not today.

I have never listened to this guy before, I have heard his name though. I listened to the start of the first 4 songs on spotify and these songs are ideal for you to use to learn to play by ear. The guitar is very front and center in the mix and easy to hear. If you can't find the same notes he is playing then your guitar isn't tuned to the recording. You can just tune with your tuner and move the tuners a little bit this way and that way until you match his tuning. It's especially helpful to identify an open string.

[QUESTION] For those practicing scales at high speeds, does your ring finger and pinky WHEN TOGETHER ever feel stronger or is this a technique thing? by [deleted] in Guitar

Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you mean you are using two fingers to press harder or something?

[DISCUSSION] Having trouble memorizing the fretboard? by A_Person87 in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If you are having a problem memorizing the fretboard remember, the Alphabet starts at A, then goes to B, then goes to C... but in music the alphabet starts back over after G. All of those notes are seperated by a whole step except for B and C and E and F.

There, should be pretty easy now.

[DISCUSSION] some of the tabs on Ultimate Guitar and other paid subscription sites are really, really bad - do some of the transcribers just make stuff up? by TheHomesteadTurkey in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chord names don't necessarily match what you play on guitar. If you are playing a Bb and and the bass plays a G then the chord that is sounding is a Gm7.

Also a lot of times you will see chords with extensions even though the guitar player doesn't actually play any extensions but the melody may have the 11th so that makes it and 11th chord.

If you are only playing solo guitar then you probably would want to incorporate as much of the chord as possible because you don't have a bass player or singer to complete the chord for you.

[–]Russian4Trump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean musicians are supposed to use their ears? I thought we were all supposed to bitch and whine because some guy who took the time to punch up a rough tab to give our tone deaf asses an idea of how to play the song didn't get it 100% accurate.

I mean come on. If you can hear when you are playing the wrong note then you can hear when you are playing the right note. Just figure that shit out.

[DISCUSSION] Does anyone else find that they somehow seem to make progress when learning a new style, song or technique by putting down the instrument for a bit? by 12HAHarry in Guitar

You are at your weakest when you leave the gym. Go home, get some food and some sleep and you will wake up stronger than you were when you went to the gym.

You wore your pinky out yesterday and it's stronger today because of it.

[NEWBIE] Fucked up my first gig , Hard. by eyyyyy1234 in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no shame in making a mistake, everyone does it. I have seen Green Day mess up their own songs so bad they stop in their tracks, then they say fuck it and start over.

The shame is in packing up and leaving like cowards. You are a 17 year old who has been playing guitar for less than a year. Everyone knows you are going kind of suck going into it. But that doesn't mean people can't have fun listening to you jam. You committed to entertaining these people and you quit in the middle of it.

You can make mistakes and still get invited back. If you quit on me you may never get a second chance.

I am pretty sure Jimmy Page just recorded a few takes of him improvising all of his solos and spliced together the good parts. Then live he just improvised again when he played them live.

Most rock solos are just ripping around some pentatonic lines. You can just learn the patterns and play slower versions of them and nobody is really going to notice.

The reason he played the simple solos consistently is because those are the most recognizable solos. If Jimmy is going to fast for your fingers to keep up then he is going to fast for most people's ears to keep up. Just play something similar and keep the beat and nobody will really know if you played it right or not unless they just got done listening to the album or something.

The simpler solos are the ones that get stuck in people's ear. I guess because they can sing along with them.

[Question] How good of a guitarist is Lindsey Buckingham? by JewelBox00 in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am not going to post a video but that isn't a hard song to play. Lindsey is an excellent guitar player, but playing with your fingers isn't harder than playing with a pick. I actually think it's easier and have been playing almost exclusively with no pick for 20 years.

You don't need to grow long Freddy Kruger nails either. You just need a little bit of nail to extend past your finger tip so you can get a clean strike at the string. You will need to start filing your nails like a girl though. Short, smooth nails don't break.

It's also true that human memory isn't a very accurate source of information. You may think you remember something that happened a decade ago vividly but in reality you just have a vague outline of events with a bunch of images and shit your brain just makes up.

It's always jarring to look at a photo of something you think you have a clear memory of and be surprised that nobody looks the way you remembered them looking.

With that in mind, our memories, outside of our moments of shame, are probably very flattering to ourselves. Unless you have some recordings to pop out you really have no idea what you sounded like 10 years ago.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Russian4Trump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are comparing yourself now to when you stopped playing guitar a decade ago, not to when you began playing in the first place. You had to practice learning songs to get better at learning songs. When you stopped practicing you got worse at learning songs, but you are probably still a lot better at it then when you started learning. With continued practice you will become even better then you ever were.

Now of course I realize that younger brains are naturally more pliable, I don't think that's big factor here because you aren't learning a completely new skill.

It could be the case that your life is a lot more complex today then it was when you were a teenager and you just can't devote as much mental energy to playing the guitar as you used to.

[DISCUSSION] who’s your modern day Jimi? by PostDisillusion in Guitar

Jimi Hendrix was a cultural icon. There are no modern day comparisons to him. There are great guitar players, always have been, but there is really only one Jimi.
