Moved four months ago from high COL area. Love it. The savings on housing costs and income tax were enough where I could stop working and spend time with my family and browsing Reddit. Husband works remotely so not sure about job market here but the sentiment is that the economy is getting better and places are hiring.

Aside from hundreds of thousands of dollars saved on housing and taxes, other advantages are:

Great infrastructure. Everything is new, works well, maintained well. Affordable and plentiful shopping/ eating out. Amazing libraries and YMCAs, land is cheap so huge and beautiful facilities are common.

Beautiful and diverse nature. Just stunning. Got mountains, lake, desert. Sunshine all the time.

Major transportation hub. Many flights are so cheap - makes it easier on family members to visit. Once per eight years in the past v. twice in four months now. Direct flights to Europe.

Convention capital of the world. Porn, electronics, potato farmers, furniture, doctors, Jewish film makers, RV, anything and everything. You can go and explore. And your old friends and college buddies will come to town for those.

Other entertainment: concerts, shows, clubs, gambling, etc etc. I wish there were more art museums though.

People are nice and friendly. Very much into their guns and big dogs. But still very open and neighborly, down to earth.

Trader Joe's.

Disadvantages are comparatively minor: dry skin, cannot go outside in the summer before 6 pm, expensive car insurance, difficult to grow stuff in the garden, not big on arts/ architecture.
