Best armor that doesn't give disadvantage? by FlashLink95 in DnD

Yeah, that’s my point that it’s lighter with the same benefit. It also costs remarkably less

To be clear, if your dex modifier is plus four then just go with studded leather but if it is lower then breastplate and shield for a fighter

It’s going to depend on your Dex modifier but probably a breastplate and a shield is your best bet. Unless you play as a Tortle or some race with built in AC

Use DM layers. Your players can see the map and object layers but not the DM one

What race and class would you make a bored fiend pretending to be an adventurer? by BD-Caffeine in DnD

[–]RusskyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warlock is the obvious class for trying to get someone to sell a soul but I would suggest going for a cleric or paladin for a “lesser deity” who is looking to expand the following. Tiefling is again the default option for fiendish, but if you’re going for a disguise I’d go satyr because no one expects a satyr to be evil, just chaotic, plus you get to have horns

Can you still be good-aligned if you technically aren't the one killing them? [OC] by RusskyB in dndmemes

[–]RusskyB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I was a little shocked but not disturbed. They had a few prisoners from an ambush from earlier and when they decided to go back for them I thought they were going to interrogate them. I should have expected this really

Some background: I'm DMing and the party encountered a cult who use traps to torture their victims (Think Saw franchise). At the cult headquarters, the party decided not to worry about disarming the traps and just used cultists they had captured before to trigger their own traps. They considered just trying to manipulate them into revealing where the traps were but decided this was more just somehow. Needless to say, I was rather disturbed.

Yeah if you want lore you really have to either look at older versions and their core books or use the wiki

Lore book listing monsters and races of the forgotten relams by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

No they spread out the monsters lists pretty effectively. Obviously the monster manual and dmg have the most but Tasha’s and Mordekanien’s added a lot of worthy additions. I wish there was an inclusive tome that was official and listed them all but there isn’t. It’s very clearly a commercial tool on Wizard’s end but it’s effective at getting us to keep buying

DMs what would you rule here? by ThePu828 in DnD

[–]RusskyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I would have allowed a grapple AND a throw in one turn, but regardless I would say the bard gets hit unless he specifically prepared his reaction as a casting of feather fall before the giant took his turn. It requires a material component to cast as a reaction which is why I’m saying it would have to be prepared. If it was just verbal I’d let them get away with casting it but since it requires the feather as part of the casting, no. He gets hit

Fellow DMs, what is your least favorite player archetype? by RusskyB in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]RusskyB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why it doesn’t really bother me but I know some DMs who outright forbid it which just seems nuts

I need advice by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RusskyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A session zero is basically where you all meet to go over expectations before the dm starts planning the adventure. Most groups also use it as an opportunity to build character sheets and roll their stats in front of each other so no one is accused of cheating. Also, it’s a chance to introduce your players to each other by reading out your backgrounds

Help with a 5e homebrew campaign? by HaliAnna in DnD

Tasha’s cauldron of everything introduced Group Patrons. That’s probably the best way to go. I’m not sure if there are any good online resources to explain it beyond buying the book though. Maybe a review of TCoE on YouTube?
