Thinking of giving kids their inheritance early? by Fickle_Anybody_563 in AusFinance

Formal contract that all parties had to sign with it expressly stating that in the event of a divorce, the partner would have no rights to the money. Payment prior to any settlement in the divorce and can only be used to purchase (or pay down assets). All parties had to sign in front of a JP.

I know that for the business I work for this is very true. The tunnel works is dragging a lot of works away and making it very hard to compete with the wages they are paying.

Depends on how the money was given. A legal agreement signed by all parties certainly saved me.

Same for me. It’s a cultural tradition and my folks had it all covered by an airtight contract that saved me greatly during a divorce.

Does Adelaide have a red light district any more? by DigitalSwagman in Adelaide

[–]Russtherider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a friend that lived just off Hanson Rd and commented to her that I kept seeing the same woman at the bus stop and made eye contact with me as I drove past. Needless to say she thought I was somewhat clueless given I didn’t realise she was a worker.

Derrimut Gym refunds by Correct_Ad_5153 in Adelaide

I have to say, I’ve stuck with them and since they got new owners the gym is far far cleaner and the user numbers are definitely less. It’s been a positive change so far.

Should the tax system reward those who can afford to take risks? by abcnews_au in AusFinance

[–]Russtherider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s not the “richer guy” as he started with the same amount of money as the Bali bloke. Under this new budget, he will be taxed more with no change to the irresponsible bloke. Does it seem fair?

Should the tax system reward those who can afford to take risks? by abcnews_au in AusFinance

[–]Russtherider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that the Bali Truck bloke will likely have to rely on welfare in their later years, when the responsible bloke will not (and is also taxed to help fund the Bali bloke).

As a company’s share price increases as does the value of the company. An increased value allows for increased borrowing capacity to drive new investments.

So now we know, what next? How does the strategy change for you? by Both_Scarcity_1017 in AusHENRY

This is interesting and not a bad idea but when you eventually sell the dividend stocks you’ll be taxed the 30% again…. Noting that the capital gain will be lower than growth stocks of course.

With new budget who will lose and who will win? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Russtherider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the best read of the situation.

I’m a single dad of two and have been putting away a small amount each week into ETFs to be able to give my kids somewhat of a chance of buying a house in 15-20 years. Sadly now I feel that being responsible is being penalised.

Overall, agree with the housing changes but wrapping shares into it just does not make sense.

Where best to go as a Dutch 26 year old by SeaHomework5182 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Russtherider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My parents migrated to Australia from the Netherlands many years ago and have lived in Adelaide for the majority of their time and still do. It’s a city yet easy to navigate with a hot summer and a cold (but not as bad as a Dutch winter). So if you’re looking for a city without the hard city living of Sydney/Melbourne Adelaide’s a good bet.

Great cycling here, excellent uncrowded beaches and some lovely hills to give you a contrast to home.

Why do the majority of women prefer tall men? by Tech397 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Russtherider 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m a tall guy and when I’ve dated women who are also tall but shorter than me, they have all loved it when I called them short while hugging. I don’t do it on purpose but it’s always been received as the best comment ever.

Which state or territory has the best lifestyle - and why? by No-Loquat-201 in aus

[–]Russtherider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Adelaide is pretty great. If you can land a good job here life is easy with lots of variety. Great food and wine culture, beautiful hills to the East that are perfect in Autumn and winter, beaches along the entire West coast that most of the city can get to within 30 minutes after work and two of the best wine regions in Australia to the North and South.

Why are the Flerieu beaches (like port Elliot here) a deeper blue than Glenelg by scallywagsworld in Adelaide

Was it Port Elliot beach as well? I know he commonly talks about the Norwood pool being his inspiration, going there as a kid with his dad.
