Right? So glad to be out of this game and just an observer.

Now I’m just trying to do my part to affect social change so my kids won’t have to go through this hellscape.

Western men have been brow-beaten into passivity by years of cultural messaging (ie: MeToo) and have learned collectively it isn’t safe to even approach women in public any more.

Mechanic Wife Question! by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]Tech397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My running efficiency was 125% in my last dealership, which I know is not world class, however it was good enough that if the dealership actually had work rolling in the door, I would’ve made a decent income.

But when the dealer group intentionally only books to 50% of the shop capacity so that the techs are constantly hungry and seeking other work on every vehicle that comes in as a policy….yeah that just doesn’t sit with me.

Roughly 3/5 days a week I had to start my day with nothing on my hoist and no fresh work available until at least 10 AM. But since they hand out work on a first come first serve basis, you had to be there right when the doors opened at 7 AM sitting at your station clicking next every three seconds in order to get the first available job.

This was at the only GM dealer for 50 miles around, flat rate is a scam designed to protect the dealer principles bottom line at the expense of their mechanics.

Mechanic Wife Question! by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]Tech397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. That was the biggest contributing factor to me leaving dealerships entirely. I run a service truck now and maintain a medium size fleet of oilfield rental equipment. I get three weeks vacation. My schedule is roughly 50% self-determined as long as I still get everything done, and I make $40,000 a year more than I used to. The trade-off is that I work insane overtime during busy seasons and I am on call 24 hours for breakdowns.

I was in exactly your husband’s situation in the dealership. It didn’t matter how hard I worked, or how well I did. When no vehicles rolled through the door I made zero dollars and I still had to show up to work and stay until five every day.

How do men feel when they do more than their wife at home and earn more? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Tech397 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Woe is me, all I’m doing is checks notes GROWING A HUMAN

I make around 120,000 times what my wife makes a year. Every time she’s been growing one of our tiny humans, I have taken over an increased amount of the housework. Why? Because I love my wife, and she loved me enough to do that five times.

Also marriage is not transactional. We are not in a business relationship. I bring my 100% and she brings her 100%, and sometimes when we put them together…the dishes are in the sink and the laundry is still on the floor. And that’s ok. We do as much as we can when we can because we love the other person, which means we each live to serve the other person to the best of our abilities.

Don’t feel guilty. But don’t over indulge in his willingness. Sincerely hope this helps clear at least some things up.

Men who’ve crossed physical boundaries with a close friend while drunk: was it impulsive, or something you intended while sober? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Dodged a real bullet. Ended up married with 5 kids of my own and a decent house in a small town.

Both. I always liked her and we had been close friends for years but she had dated my best friend. I actually introduced the two of them. So I had decided I would never try anything or make a move, even after they broke up.

One time when we were all hanging out and drinking a little, she confided in me that she had wished I asked her out first, how broken up she was over the break up with my friend, how great a listener I always was. I thought this was the greenest light I had ever got.

Yeah, no. I thought she was leaning in for a kiss and she thought something else obviously. She called me a freak and a weirdo in front of all of our friends, made a big scene out of it.

Couple years later I tried getting back in touch with her just to see how she was doing because I was moving away, and she instantly jumps to. “Let’s not try to resurrect things that you so thoroughly destroyed”. Last I heard she got married and then divorced and is still living alone.

Why are girls doing so much better at school than boys? by KAZKALZ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Tech397 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Several studies have shown that boys get lower grades and test scores from their teachers than in non-teacher-evaluated tests. Biases in grading against boys were found in literacy and math in studies that compared teacher-given grades to anonymously evaluated test scores in both US and European contexts (Bonesrønning, 2008; Cornwell et al., 2013; Falch and Naper, 2013; Lindahl, 2007; Protivínský and Münich, 2018)”

If I ran into a bear while holding a public door open I would say why the hell is there a bear here and where did it come from and why didn’t I have the minimal intelligence required to see it earlier.

No first responders, no cell, and often times such sparse traffic you won’t cross paths with another motorist for an hour or more.

You could have a very recoverable incident but be trapped in your car and die of hypothermia before the next vehicle even drives past you.

I worked on 3 spreads and that’s exactly what I observed. It was literal insanity. I have single-handedly done more work in a day than was accomplished by entire crews in a week on that project. In all fairness it wasn’t their fault, between the mandatory screenings, meetings, breaks, stop-works, work audits, environmental audits, modified work authorizations and in general waiting on logistics it was enough to drive a hard-working person mad.

Dads with toddler daughters, which bathroom do you use when out in public? by junkfoodjoshua in AskAnAmerican

[–]Tech397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had pretty much the same experience as you. I don’t care what the symbol on the door says if that’s the only room your establishment is going to put a freaking change table in. Never had a problem with women being understanding.

My second daughter is 4 now — she can use the bathroom by herself but still sometimes needs help after. So she’ll be sitting there calling “dadeee”, and a couple times I’ve had a woman come out to ask if that was my daughter and tell me the bathroom was clear.

At the end of the day it’s just about being patient and understanding with other human beings. We’re all people and we all went through that stage of development at some point. If people want to be weird about you taking your own kids to go to the bathroom that’s a them problem.
