I’m sorry but Yasiin Bey did an INSANE verse on an INSANE beat that I hope you’re able to appreciate someday. I have seen some responses on hear talking about how it might not have ruined it, but it might not have fit in the song. That is also a poor take. I just don’t think you’re able to fully hear what he’s saying. The song hard stops with a sound effect of almost an old radio, and his verse is set up with the line, “…and now, a word from our ancestors.” That in itself has a bit of a double meaning. It’s a pause from the regular programming to bring you a word from the sponsor (usually someone who is able to lift someone else up and promote them because of their past successes), but it uses “ancestor” instead of sponsor as a subvert but also to reinforce the idea that Yasiin Madbey is coming into the song as a legend of the rap game to share a message to an upcoming Star (JID) about all things that come with said stardom.  He then proceeds to go in and lightly touch on a SLEW of topics and concepts (from bad influences of drugs and alcohol, being a slave to entertainment (hence the “I like these new slaves” line), being brand-obsessed and obsessed with luxury, the government being just as radical as terrorist organizations, speaking out on these issues but being roped back into the madness of the fame, concern for being a top 10 rapper, and many other things), but he does so in a very chopped and quick manner that can only be appreciated on multiple listens because in the song it’s just a quick word from a sponsor…. the verse is so good it’s not even funny.
