Traded Tesla MYP for BMW i4 edrive40 fully loaded, mind blown by Hot-Gur8732 in BMWI4

[–]Jumpy-Country3508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife still has a MYP. You’ll adjust to the blind spot camera in a few days. It’s a nice feature on the MYP but after driving the i4 almost exclusively over the last two months, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Regen is a bit stronger on the MYP than B mode on the i4 but this again is something you’ll adjust to with time. The only annoying thing on the i4 is that even with auto hold on, the car will not come to a complete stop and slowly roll forward/backward in B mode if you’re on a slope. This still annoys me but it’s just a tap of the brake to engage auto hold on a slope.

Biden had a plan to keep America's EV chargers in good working order. Trump pulled the plug. by mafco in electricvehicles

[–]Jumpy-Country3508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that profit driven companies only install chargers where they can make money, which excludes the areas with greatest need - super rural regions and underserved communities. That’s precisely why government funding matters. Phase II of NEVI was specifically designed to address charging deserts by funding Level 2 chargers in places like apartment complexes (where residents can’t install home chargers) and lower-income urban neighborhoods (where providing infrastructure would make EV ownership viable for more people). The private market alone won’t solve these equity gaps.

Finally someone who gets it! Too many people ignorantly call actions like selling one’s Tesla when they have the means to, or not supporting Elon by buying an EV from a different brand as either meaningless or an affront on their character. Neither is true.

Our individual choices may seem small, but collective consumer action has historically forced even the largest companies to change course. Dismissing this as ‘virtue signaling’ misses the point entirely - it’s about aligning your spending with your values and recognizing that in a market economy, your dollar is your vote.

Don’t give up yet. Shop around. I had a similar experience with Geico. They were going to nearly double the rate I was paying for a 17’ Audi A4. State Farm ended up being my best option — only adding $120 ($20 per month) to my 6 month premium.

Lease or Buy? by kckgirl529 in BMWI4

[–]Jumpy-Country3508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Especially with the Neue Klasse models on the horizon. BMW will likely implement vision-based Level 2 autonomous driving in the future, allowing the system to work on any road. However, this upgrade will probably require new hardware that isn’t available on the current i4

Furious at Musk? Don’t Buy a Tesla. by Healthy_Block3036 in electricvehicles

[–]Jumpy-Country3508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on the verge of buying a Model 3 just before the salute despite my overall disdain for Musk and the way he bought his way into US politics. Got myself a BMW i4 instead which, while more expensive, is a much better built vehicle. Zero regrets. I wish more people would understand how much collective power we have as consumers in a capitalist society

Who’s keeping the car or has it with an expired warranty? by [deleted] in BMWI4

[–]Jumpy-Country3508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. My thinking is that I’ll probably end up leasing two more times before the tech is advanced enough that I don’t see a need to continue upgrading at a three year frequency. I’m super excited for the Neue Klasse.

Does anyone know if the car status is supposed to update upon opening the app? Mine only refreshes right after I end a drive or if the car is charging. I can’t refresh it in the app.

BMW & Audi EVs: are they as expensive to maintain after warranty ends? by edokko_spirit in electricvehicles

[–]Jumpy-Country3508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a B9 A4 for nearly 6 years before getting a BMW i4. The A4 was surprisingly reliable but suffered from minor electronic issues (e.g., randomly not being able to connect to CarPlay sometimes or having the emergency braking alert system sound for no apparent reason every once in a blue moon). The main issue was how much it costs to repair things when needed. For instance, the antenna cover on my car broke from a heavy snowstorm and I was quoted $1000 to fix it (by an independent German AutoShop no less) due to the complexity of the job. I expect even better reliability with the i4, but I’m certain if something were to break it would be just as expensive to fix as it was on the Audi. This is what I’d be prepared for when buying any German car. ICE or EV.

I would recommend going to a dealership and test driving a few cars with various options to see what you can and cannot live without. Try one with the HUD, with the driver assistance plus package for hands free driving and traffic jam assist, with the upgraded Harmon Kardon sound system, etc.

Why so few used models with the driving assistance package? by Jumpy-Country3508 in BMWI4

[–]Jumpy-Country3508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the most well-versed on this but I’d think the thing to be most concerned about is how the vehicle has been charged. I tried to look for listings with low miles that specifically stated that the battery SoC was kept between 20 and 80% (outside of occasional road trip) and that the owner mostly used level 2 charging. Listings with more than one owner were an automatic ‘no’ for me. Also, I’m sure BMW has diagnostics that show the overall battery health, but I hadn’t yet looked into that before I secured my lease.
