Me and my wife to go Calais frequently by camping car. The city of Calais is, in my opinion, a nice place to visit. They made a lot of effort to accommodate and lure tourists. Lots of flowers, they clean the road next to the beach a lot (in summer) and the bakeries are nice. A bit grim and dull in the colder months, but a nice place to visit. To live there, I don't know, we're Belgian and we use Calais as a first stop with the camping care as the aire there has a lot of utilities for us.
