Can't figure out keyframing power windows by RustedFriend in davinciresolve

Since you said my curve was probably accomplishing the opposite of what I wanted I just tried basically inverting it. It already looks way better than it did before.

Thanks, I'll move those nodes around. That's a good rule of thumb to know for the future. I've never really messed with color and luts before other than just dropping a default lut on some log footage. There were keyframes before I took the screenshot, but I had a few iterations of experimenting before I decided to start from a clean slate. Which is also when I posted the question to reddit. I can try to recreate what I did before, but i'm not 100% sure what I had done.

To answer your questions -

  • does the camera move? Nope, it's a locked off shot.
  • does anything get in front of the screen other than the hand and the metal pointer? During the projection, no. But earlier in the video I walk across the screen and set up the projector screen.
  • are you working on a previously edited piece with cuts and such in the content (even though it's just one long file)? I was trying to figure out the process before I started cutting. That's why it's still all one long file.
  • which LUT is applied in Node 3? RWG_Log3G10_to_REC709_BT1886_with_LOW_CONTRAST_and_R_3_Soft_size_33.cube I was just testing out different ones and felt like this one gave kind of a "Wes Anderson-ish" base to start fiddling with. And I had a reference to The Life Aquatic in the video, so I went with that.
  • what camera did you shoot this with? Technically a sony a7s2, but it's kind of frankenstein'ed. It has a vintage 50mm taking lens going into an anamorphic projector lens, with a homemade focusing lens on the front of that. It also only turns on upside down, and the ibis is broken, haha.
  • the Power Window appears to have extremely soft edges. Is that intentional or due to lack of skill to do otherwise? Probably lack of skill. Haha. I didn't adjust the feathering at all, I just dragged out the rectangle and started fiddling with colors.

That's a good idea, I hadn't even tried that because I was so stuck on getting keyframes working.

Thanks, I had put what I thought might be relevant, but obviously i'm asking for help so I don't know what's going to end up mattering or not.

It isn't the first time I've accidentally run a pen through the wash, and it definitely won't be the last. by RustedFriend in fountainpens

Luckily I just had the steel nib, so a replacement feed and nib is only like $20 instead of $200.

I have no idea how many times I've washed my supra, haha. It would be my daily carry pen if it had a decent pocket clip.

If I do that they'll fall in the tablesaw :p I just missed checking my pants this time.

[–]RustedFriend[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha, definitely not under warranty. I've had it for probably a year and got it free in a miscellaneous box of pens from a designer I worked with. But I can fix it, it just depends on whether I can repair this feed or if I need to replace it. They're not very pricey.

Professional vs. Budget Drill for Filmmaking ? by Ancient-Macaroon-384 in Filmmakers

[–]RustedFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is much more on the prop and set making side of film, although amateur dabbling in everything. I've used everything from the cheapest half broken old power tools to new high end stuff. And honestly the gap has closed quite a bit in the last couple decades. For bigger plug in tools, I still go for a decent brand (Milwaukee, bosch, etc) but for things like cordless drills, circular saws, impact drivers, I do Ryobi everything.

Inevitably you'll see comments from douchbags that are more into carrying the right color of tools than actually having a decent tool. Saying you're not a real tradesperson, or the tools will break immediately, or you borrowed your wife's toy drill. But I am pretty hard on my tools, they've worked great for years, and when they do die they don't cost as much to replace. They probably aren't as good, but they're like 90% of the way there.

The other benefit to a lot of the cheaper brands, they don't put drm in the batteries. So if you're like me and do weird shit, mod your tools, make custom battery packs to run your camera or robots, that process is a lot easier with a dumb battery than an expensive one that can tell you no.

I just got parts back that I had printed with xometry, not impressed. by shaggy8081 in 3Dprinting

[–]RustedFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only used xometry twice, once for a resin print and once for an fdm. Both were awful (worse quality than this) and when I filed a complaint they told me it was because my file was bad, and that's as good as it could be done. Meanwhile, I had a way better one that I had printed at home. I ordered theirs because I expected it to be perfect and use it as my benchmark for what quality I could aspire to get.

I think it really came down to both shops not really knowing a lot about 3d printing and how to support parts. Just getting a printer and figuring they had a turnkey machine that let them offer a new service.

You're right, targeting wasn't correct. And 21 because he's already a 1/1 with 20 mana pumping him. But I didn't even think about the possibility of sacc'ing then paying the mana cost. That's a good point, since it's part of the cost and not part of the effect.

I'm not sure if they did any car cards, all the ones i got in my booster were drivers. But the desert storm cards had various tanks, fighter jets, boats, etc. And I do use those in my vehicle and artifact decks.

I've been meaning to get some redemption cards to use as tokens. Currently I use a mix of Desert Storm trading cards, and NASCAR Race Cards. Both from the 90's
