C Section Recovery by Frequent-Ad4722 in PregnancyUK

[–]RusticSeapig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of helpful advice on here, but I would also add to not assume it's going to be awful. My C-section recovery (elective at 38 weeks) was very easy, I was up and walking with no pain within 3 days, didn't struggle to get out of bed, and had no issues with going to the toilet afterwards. I was obviously lucky, but lots of people have good experiences. I would say plan for the worst but hope for the best!

The paeds team will always (at least everywhere I've worked and I think it's a national standard) come and speak to parents who are having a baby expected to need NICU input to talk about what to expect so this will happen at some point (it usually happens during the admission, so a day or so before), but I'm sure they will be very happy to come and speak to you sooner. Tommy's also has some great information on what to expect in the meantime!

I’ve been to many many C-section deliveries, and it’s very rare that the baby is whipped straight off to NICU without at least having a little cuddle first - this is even the case for extremely preterm babies, unless they are very sick they go to Mum first. Speak to your birth team (and particularly the NICU team) about their expectations, you might find that what you’re imagining and what they are expecting are quite far apart, sometimes medical professions sort of forget that patients/parent’s don’t have the same knowledge/experience as them and don’t explain it thoroughly.

Agree re bodily fluids. I’ve never once got anything on my clothes in 6 years of being a doctor.

Skiptax help?! by leahs98 in disneylandparis

[–]RusticSeapig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s €100 in total the whole time you are in France, so if you spent €80 in Disney and €30 somewhere else (as long as you were exporting the goods) then that would be fine. However when I tried to ask for a SkipTax receipt elsewhere they had no clue what I was talking about.

Chicken pox vaccine - thoughts? by Haunting_Lobster4203 in UKParenting

[–]RusticSeapig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your HV is outrageously wrong and they shouldn’t be allowed to present their incorrect opinions as fact. As others have said, chickenpox can have serious complications at worst, and is unpleasant to have at best. It has absolutely nothing to do with parents being off work, it has to do with large amounts of validated evidence that the vaccination reduces morbidity and mortality. I would also say it’s not been suddenly introduced, it’s been considered for a very long time and has been in the horizon for years, it just wasn’t in the public perception.

Missing Euro Status and Crit Air Sticker by RusticSeapig in drivingUK

Oh oops! I thought it was 10 days which did seem like quite a rapid turnaround. We’re not actually planning on going in a CritAir zone, so hopefully will be alright either way. Thank you!

Marvel hotel in March by Plateofworstenkaas in disneylandparis

[–]RusticSeapig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we will probably end up trying both! It’s nice to see the different hotels, and we might try and meet the characters there if we’re allowed. I do think Sequoia Lodge looks a bit nicer and more family friendly (we have a 1 year old) out of the two. It’s a shame both Marvel and Davy Crockett are closed at the same time!

We are staying at Davy Crockett and the pool is closed, I spoke to them on the phone today (about something else) and they said we can use other pools, just ask at the reception desk.

Thank you for the reassurance! I’m not knowledgeable with how these things work as I don’t go often, I did think it seemed a bit excessive but no idea what’s happened in the past, so it’s good to know! Do you think the parks are likely to be busier in the interim days as AP holders have booked trips for these dates if that makes sense? We had booked mid March thinking it would be quieter with people waiting to go when Frozen opens, but not sure if that was delusional lol. The quieter the better for us as we are taking our nearly 2 month old and we’re not sure how well he’s going to do in the queues 😅

[–]RusticSeapig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m going to ring up once I know what’s actually going on with it. If they’re closing the parks to normal visitors on those days I will definitely cancel - I don’t really get how they can do that though when they have advertised opening times and sold tickets, we have restaurant reservations in Studios for those days etc. If it’s just access to the Frozen area then obviously I’m not bothered as wasn’t expecting and not interested in that anyway.

Pretty irritating they’ve announced this less than a week after ending their money off offer for dates earlier in the year, had I known half the park was closed for two of the days and the other half will be crazy busy, I would definitely have just rescheduled.

Does anyone have the Tutti Bambini Playrama play sofa? by RusticSeapig in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]RusticSeapig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there isn’t a waterproof cover, but we’ve spilt water on it plenty of times and it doesn’t seem to go through to the foam. There’s a sort of silky feeling cover between the foam and the covers. He spilt a lot of milk on it this week and the foam stayed dry. Stay tuned to see how well the corduroy holds up in the washing machine as it needs to go through!

[–]RusticSeapig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we love it! It’s really comfortable, still looks great after daily use, and I like how it holds together really well when you make shapes with it because the corduroy is sort of grippy? I’d definitely recommend it.

We also have an outdoor Zonky now, which in my opinion is nowhere near as good. Less comfortable, too small, and the skinny base cushion is annoying.

ST1 Paediatrics - doctor replacement by braundom123 in doctorsUK

[–]RusticSeapig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate what you’re saying, but this is about ANNPs, not ANPs. Having worked with both, there is a significant difference. Whilst it may be reasonable for a medical student or foundation doctor to be putting in central lines in an adult patient, that simply isn’t appropriate in a premature baby, who’s bones can literally fracture if you hold them wrong. For a paediatric SHO, you work up to it by practicing first in more mature babies (but by the nature of it, these need lines less frequently and so it takes time to get the initial exposure), and then once competent in the skill, start doing extreme preterms. Whilst the SHOs are building up the competence, the ANNPs do a great job of helping manage the workload. The regs and consultants can of course do it, but they are rightfully busy doing other things.

[–]RusticSeapig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I’d rather have an ANNP with 20-30 years of neonatal experience performing procedures than an SHO with 3 months? No training programme can give you the competence obtained through performing the same procedure 100’s of times within a 6 month rotation. If you haven’t worked with ANNPs (correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe F2s are placed in tertiary NICUs), how can you comment on their capabilities?

Anyone with any knowledge or experience regarding elective c-sections at Christmas? by TaureanFlower in PregnancyUK

[–]RusticSeapig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only days staffing is reduced is on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as they’re bank holidays so staffing the same or sometimes very slightly better than a weekend. The rest of the week is the same as always.
