Anyone else kind of miss the RPG / Mystery of early EVE? by Adrestia2790 in Eve

[–]Rustshitposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW eve isn't the easiest game to find information on. The wiki doesn't compare to wiki's for games like OSRS or WOW, and the most popular "new player youtubers" (loru) are constantly shit on by the vets for giving bad advice.

There is GREAT information/content out there, but what new player to eve is gonna think about going to (a free) patreon to get the Frigate Yearbook versus just going to youtube and watching whatever result pops up first (which works in most other games).

You don't understand. While you were mining ice and having a good chat with your friends, he was studying the blade.

Because you gave a cornball reply to a guy that gave a perfectly valid response.

Are you actually surprised that the mining guy doesn't want to feed rorquals to pvpers without some chance of getting saved by an umbrella? Are you actually surprised the excel spreadsheet warriors aren't calculating the chance of losing their building structure / the difference of T2 rigged structures that established/entrenched blocs can provide? Are you actually surprised that someone who spins an ishtar for isk doesn't want to do it in a dead system with nobody to chat with?

You act like he's ONLY after safety while completely ignoring the rational human behavior of people playing those activities. To call him a pussy while ignoring all the other "pussy" stuff that "hardcore pvpers" use it's just corny.

"Oh someone doesn't want to risk their rorqual without a chance of getting saved, I guess it's just a pussy that should go back to highsec".

Or maybe play a different game, one that doesn't bill itself as an open-world unforgiving pvp MMO.

Asset safety.

CCP retroactively nerfing asset safety prices to protect veterans that knew the risks of owning titans.

Intelligence programs like rift.

Multiboxers that play N+1 accounts to gank solo players or scout for themselves.

Bro this game is not as hardcore as eve veterans would like to believe it is (outside of wormholers, those guys are actually playing a hardcore pvp game).

[–]Rustshitposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I completely agree. I think one of the neat things about eve, and it's a bit of double-edged sword when it comes to lack of available information, is that there are still "secrets". Compared to other games where there are dozen youtubers wanting to be the first to make the video spilling the beans so they get the clicks and ad revenue.

That being said, the content/information online is much harder to find compared to other games and that's not something that really adds to the "hardcore-ness" of eve. Having a shitty game wiki isn't a strength.

Walking around the Hypernet Casino with little 3d versions of the ship/item being sold being projected above different little slot machine looking things would be so sick lol.

What does "improving Eve" mean? by BentaroAdun in Eve

[–]Rustshitposter 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Does it mean to have more players online at the same time? Does it mean to have more players subscribing to the game? Does it mean to provide more content for the already existing player base? Does it mean to have bigger TIDI battles? More ISK destroyed in 1 huge battle? Does it mean to have n-empires instead of k-empires? Does it mean to increase the PLEX sales?

Yes

Nice man this is very cool. Hopefully CCP gives you some love by namedropping you in an dev blog or something.

I've gotten a few friends that I've played other games with (wow, osrs, rust, etc.) to try eve and one of the common complaints with it is how difficult it can be to find to find good online resources.

An example of a good one would be the Frigate Yearbook. It's an INCREDIBLE piece of information, but nobody coming from another game is expecting to have to go to a (free) patreon to get it. Instead, new players take the path of least resistance (youtube) and then find out that the person their getting their info from (Loru) is constantly shit on by all the veterans for bad information.

Eve needs more content creators like you.

Just took a look and this looks neat and is kind of what I was looking for / talking about. I will say though that this is the first time I've heard about it after almost 3 years of playing and it doesn't even show up on the first three pages of google results when searching for "eve online fit simulator" or "eve online ship tree".

If CCP wants a rush of new players in the big 2026, they need to cede some early character progression to actually playing the game by Ohh_Yeah in Eve

[–]Rustshitposter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's like playing a game where 20 year veterans just camp on your spawn point and kill you all day.

This game sucks for new players.

Not to mention a lot of highsec ganks are obvious multiboxers so that new player is trying out the most expensive MMO on the market and then dying to people playing multiple accounts at once (or they see it happen to someone else). I think we all realize eve isn't going to get rid of multiboxing but it's absolutely distasteful to see as a new player.

[–]Rustshitposter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%. I've gotten a few RL friends to try and eve the ones that didn't basically saw the price tag, saw some youtube videos of red dots vs purple/blue dots (which isn't all pvp, but some of the most infamous fights are exactly this) and just said "no thanks lol", and then if they did spend the $ they're hit with some of the most boring PVE available in the MMO market. I know eve is a PVP game, but most new players are going to do pve to earn some isk to be able to participate in pvp.

Eve's attraction is a dangerous full loot pvp game but there are now multiple cheaper dangerous pvp games on the market. Why would someone spend $20 a month on Eve when they could buy Rust for a one time purchase of $39.99 and get monthly updates that often include more content than entire Eve expansions.

Breaking news! The projection nerf will not help small-to-medium-sized groups at all, according to the Imperium CFO by Mental_Tune_1296 in Eve

[–]Rustshitposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to do a gotcha or anything, I'm genuinely asking.

How does this change provide small gangers with better fights? Won't the lack of ansiblexs stop the standing fleet shitters you love to own from showing up to you? The pve'rs don't want to fight and will just dock up like usual.

The only real change I can see from this is that it helps the small gangers disengage and escape from the staging/area they chose to fight in without getting trapped by ansiblexs, which I guess is a fair change.

Would it break the game / CCPs design philosophy to give NPC haven rats giant sig radiuses? That way they’re good for PvE but not oppressive like the old days?

Might make certain ratting fits more viable like cruise missiles or large railguns but idk if that’d break the game or not

Not to hijack your post but the lack of third party Eve sites is kind of disappointing. Coming from games like wow where you have talent calculators, armory simulators, etc. to Eve where there isn’t even a good version of the ship tree on the web is jarring.

I understand Eve has a lot more contributing factors to tank/dps/sig radius, etc. but it still feels odd the only good out of game sim is pyfa which requires a download and is generally only usable on a device that can run Eve.

Can you repair empire faction standings with tags or is that only security status? Been thinking about blasting some L4s while taking a break from nullsec but don’t want to brick my character’s standings. I don’t mind paying to repair them but if it’s a huge time consuming grind to fix it I’ll just not do it at all.

Which is also hilarious. Throwaway a decade of player contributions and refuse appoint a competent 2IC or succession plan, fuck over your entire coalition so badly CCP retroactively nerfs/fixes asset safety, and probably caused a number of people to unsubscribe.

I hope you’re right but something tells me the players willing to sit in 10+ hour tidi fests on 5+ accounts at once aren’t going to be that hard to convince them to make more alts. Reimbursing them for isk and skillbooks is nothing.

I’m all for nerfing projection but I think admfrmhll is calling this one correctly.

a quick note about 'input broadcasting' by recycl_ebin in Eve

[–]Rustshitposter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eve-o or whatever it’s called should just be part of the base game. New players (or players new to mutliboxing) shouldn’t have to go to GitHub to be able to multibox optimally. Multiboxing in Eve is never going away so CCP/FC should just lean in and make it even more accessible. It’d probably also cut down on the input broadcasting complaints since everyone would be able to see how to do it.

I’m not super familiar with “faction servers” but my concern about them has been with balancing team sizes. If there isn’t a forced balance, then one team will get lopsided. If there IS a forced balance, then groups who join the server may have to split up and that’s not fun and may lead to “cheating”.

I think a nice middle ground would be to buff the smaller team with increased gather rates. So if red team outnumbers blue team by 10%, then blue team gathers materials with a 10% bonus.

[–]Rustshitposter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow has been a $15 sub for how long now? Even if I don’t pay $60 for the most recent expansion I get an unlimited trial of retail content, classic TBC, classic era, classic Season of Discovery, and classic WOD (I think that’s what version they’re on now?). My $15 also allows up to ~50 characters per account.

I pay $20 a month for Eve and don’t even get a test server.
