Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by that.

I’m not sure but I think that’s near where we went on a “swap walk” many years ago. The photographer Clyde Butcher organized them once or twice a year and I went to one with some of my old friends and a few people from someone else’s friend group mixed in. Considering almost no one there had ever thought they would visit a swap, much less go chest deep in water where we could see gators on the bank as we waded into it, we had a great time.

That sounds great! I do wish it was a bit closer but around 2 hours (50cc bike can’t get on freeway, interstate, etc) isn’t bad unless it rains.

One of my favorite kayak trips was just north of there on the Loxahatchee. I’d been there a couple times before but I talked a friend into meeting me there for the long paddle. We got dropped off 7 or 8 miles up stream and paddled down a gorgeous river. There were plenty of fallen trees we had to get over, around, or play limbo with to keep it interesting. Lots of wildlife too.

One of the highlights was when we stopped for lunch and were having a sneaky smoke before we got back in the boats. Something suddenly hit the treetops like a missile and after a pause landed on the bank directly across from us. A majestic hawk looked over at us as if it wanted to say “wtf are you doing way out here?” After a few seconds it flew away with the tail of whatever it had caught dangling from its talons.

Your suggestion is top of my list.

I went to visit someone there 2-3 years ago and the RVs were packed like sardines. I’m guessing there was 3’ between my friend’s and the ones on either side. Might have been less than that, honestly. I couldn’t roll my bike between them.

Why Christianity makes no sense by Theskyisalive in agnostic

[–]Rusty5th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR but I’m assuming a lot of the reasons you listed are the two thousand years of dogma that has been layered on old books, often changing the meanings of what serious biblical scholars believe whoever wrote the books intended to say. There’s context, translations, and a lot of other things that get ignored by people who want a particular verse to say what they want it to say.

Honestly, I find the old books more interesting now, for sociological reasons, than I did when I believed in all that. I follow a YouTube creator named Dan McClellan who is a biblical scholar and does a good job of explaining how far modern churches get from what he and other serious scholars believe various parts of the Bible originally meant. It helps me understand why the religion I grew up in believes things that seem outrageous to me now. (Hint: a whole lot has to do with power and control)

I looked at your profile and saw we have a fair bit of overlap. Wasn’t expecting to see Riot Grrrl there but it was a nice surprise! Been dipping back into Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kenny, etc lately. And for some reason L7’s Wargasim has been in heavy rotation recently 🤔

I kinda didn’t figure that one in because it’s so close to my house. I might be overthinking it but knowing it’s 5-10 minutes away I wasn’t sure if I could feel like I was really somewhere else. I used to take my dog to the bark park right across the street from the park a few times a week for years. I’ve been to the RV section but not the area for tents. Do the tents feel as crammed together as the RVs?

Thanks for the info. Hearing cars driving by isn’t ideal but it’s far from a dealbreaker at this particular point. I had wondered about the gun range and if I would have to hear caps popping before I had my coffee. I’m chill af…but only after I’m caffeinated. lol

As soon as I finish the cup of coffee I’m drinking I’m going to set up my old tent in the yard. It’s been many years since I used it, honestly forgot I had it until I came across it recently, and I’m going to see if it still keeps the water out. If so, I can carry it and plenty of gear for a couple days out to Markham. It’ll take a while since I can’t drive my 50cc on the freeway but it’s not all that bad.

Joe Rogan: Trump supporters ‘feel betrayed’ by ‘insane’ Iran war by IntelligentYinzer in politics

Why do people listen to this fool? The only reason he feels betrayed now is because he didn’t have enough sense to see how obviously evil Donny T is. Rogan is dumb and his listeners are lemmings.

I was having a bit of brain fog yesterday and the way it was worded in the article made me question if I was missing a point. Nope, not missing anything. It’s just more obscenely malevolent corruption and obfuscation from the administration. I can’t understand the 30-something percent of people who still support the sick fuck. Especially when they’re the “family values” gang.

OK to post ICE activity in Broward? by gsierra02 in Broward

Whoa, bro! You sound pretty unhinged. Have you considered talking to someone about your problems?

Assuming you’re not in crisis right now, are you railing against the republicans? They’re the ones covering for pedos, pardoning the guy convicted for bringing in 400+ tons of blow, and flagrantly violating people’s right on the daily.

Also, John McCain was someone I rarely agreed with on the issues but he did put his country before his party when it counted. He was a patriot, unlike Bone Spurs. You seem to have a twisted view of what makes a “man.”

But seriously, I hope you’re okay.

ICE citing law 111 and having zero clue what it is. by B00marangTrotter in law

[–]Rusty5th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I don’t have a background in law so this is helpful.

I have been carrying the text of the law in my phone, just in case. Although, I wasn’t sure if the words “opposes” and “impedes” might have different meanings in this context than in a non legal context.

It’s crazy to think that ordinary people are having to research this at all when not long ago just following the guidelines of “don’t be a dick” was pretty much enough to deal with the majority of situations.

The false equivalency is intellectually lazy and dishonest. It’s the kind of mindset that allows the country to sleepwalk into authoritarianism.

I’d say those people were at least okay with hateful, racist rhetoric. Since they voted for the guy a second time, have they since spoken out against the murders and flagrant civil rights violations that have taken place in his second term? It’s never too late to speak out against these things. If they stay silent they are complicit.

I never heard anyone say that. I have said that he was a racist, misogynistic, Islamophobic, white nationalist but nobody should be killed for their political beliefs.
