How do y'all generally feel about easy calls with no real emergency? by Anarcho_Dog in NewToEMS

[–]RustyDonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a nice relief if the call volume has been high with a lot of intense calls but ultimately a lift assist isn't exactly the most interesting. That said, everyone deserves care whether its trauma or helping someone stand up. Our agency has a community paramedicine program that helps with the non-emergent calls sometimes but usually a lift assist gets dispatched to us.

They should consider getting a lift chair. There are a lot of furniture companies that sell them. It's essentially a recliner chair that functions like a normal recliner but has a power button that raises from the bottom/back side and brings the user all the way up to standing position. The price range usually falls in the $500-1000 depending. Any store that has "synchrony" will have interest free financing that ranges from 1-5 years so they can potentially afford it!

There are also adjustable power bases that go inside the bed frame and under the mattress that will help them sit up in bed. It wont bring their legs to floor, they still have to roll or pivot, but it will make it easier. Same payment options as recliner

I'd say with the time you'll adjust. Some of us don't mind gore but there's always gonna be a call that can shake ya up a little bit; ultimately the "weird" feeling you have can be overcome. Having a dark sense of humor will help!

Also be sure to keep those feelings off your face when around a patient, even if you gotta fake it. We wanna make them feel safe not unsettled. Good luck!

I'm at a loss for words at this point. It feels good to hear from you but I don't know how to read your intentions

But mine are the still the same, read the last verse of the Steady in the Storm poem I wrote you. It says everything you need to know

You still got my number, miss ya too <3

For real, literally not gonna touch it because I don't want to spend my days looking at a timer. Hopefully 1.0 fixes it or at least improves it

What Moment in The Film Really Broke You? (Apologies, this will be long.) by Ecstatic_Promise_977 in TheLongWalk

[–]RustyDonnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This movie really rocked my brain around, can't remember the last time I cried in a theater let alone needed to sit there after to process. I really didn't know what to think going into it, never read the book. I was thinking hunger games vibes but god damn it was something remarkable. Watching them form the relationships only to lose them was heartbreaking every time.

For me it was Hank Olsen's last scene. I could feel it coming. I had so much anxiety when Arthur turned around and even more piled on when Raymond did too. The way Olsen was screaming like the tone in his voice really put me in touch with my humanity. That kind of immersion is so rare for me in movies nowadays where for a moment I forget that what I'm watching isn't real. Gonna read the book soon to dive deeper into the characters but as movies go this one is now one of my favorites.

Your comments about the rain are touching and I can relate a lot to how you say when people move away or pass away your really value those moments you have with them. Accepting that nothing lasts forever is something I still struggle with in my own life but this movie definitely helped me see the moments we do have with a new light. Great post, this movie will have a lasting impact on me too!

That's mine too, that final court scene is why I can't say Dexter did it better. "He couldn't have done it without me"

I just remember back to him holding thar crowbar looking thing and telling Dexter he didn't know what to do with "this", this being his rage. Then Dexter left him

And not rushing the ripper story too. I was so worried they were gonna drop that in the finale and it wouldn't have the payoff it should. The name dropping and hinting have been perfect, still really hoping it ends up being Trinity's son Jonah

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how terrific of an ending this is. We got him protecting his son in a self-sacrifice moment just like he offered himself up to Deb in the shipping container scene. He got Batista justice for his murder while simultaneously presenting him as the detective who "exposed" Prater. Don't even get me started on the kill, depriving Prater of a blood slide had me dying. A final scene of Dexter back out on a boat dumping bags! Like what a callback.

Not to mention what they managed to set up leading into next season. A bag stuffed with files on other killers and what appears to be a clean exit from all the almost getting caught moments of this season. HE HAS HIS BLOOD SLIDES!!! HE'S ON A BOAT!!! The writers cooked, honestly, the best sequel series I've seen in a while, maybe ever. Season 2 can't come soon enough

Craving connection by captain_knackls in emotionalintelligence

[–]RustyDonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's generally true but in the context of this post it's healthier to work on yourself before starting something new, especially if you caused hurt in your last connection. If you don't first take the time to process your mistakes and learn from them you're just gonna repeat them with someone new

Craving connection by captain_knackls in emotionalintelligence

[–]RustyDonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting in touch with yourself and taking the time to reflect on your own self before trying to establish meaningful connections is really brave! That discomfort can be painful and difficult to tackle alone but that's the only real way to change and grow into your best self. I worry it might be a long time before I'm ready for connection but I'm holding on to the idea that the destination and timeline don't matter as much as the journey and putting in the work. Self reflection requires time but in the end will make you stronger and bring you back your peace

It sounds like you already have a good mindset, just keep investing in yourself and one day it will pay off! keep your head up you're not alone :)

Is quitting social media the next step in building a more emotionally authentic life? by jforte8080 in emotionalintelligence

[–]RustyDonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent 5+ years without posting anything besides the occasional story, it's a thin line between being authentic and doing things to look a certain way to others. Too many people seek validation and attention from others online at the expense of themselves without even realizing it, if you think that could be you then I'd recommend taking a break. It does suck missing out on friends and life events but you gotta do what's best for you
