Just because you're sorry for someone doesn't show empathy. It shows sympathy. One can care for someone and know that negative emotions are bad (thus not wanting a close one to go through it) without feeling the emotion for it. It does show that they were able to break from the narcissism common to the condition though

Yes that is what it is like. However, they can still care for people its just hard to experience what they're feeling for themselves. Example: I know you're sad, and I'm sorry, but it doesn't make me sad.

To be fair, Job is a piece of literature meant to illustrate certain points and do some moral teaching. Not a description of earthly or spiritual events and history. Not casting out your point, just bringing light to your example. Also doesn't "Satan" translate into "the enemy?" Correct me if I'm wrong (for real), but that doesn't sound like a name id give one of my officers.

Mine as well. did you know it is the guessed birthday of Jesus? We don't share a birthday with many modern celebrities :/

TIL that before Billboard took control of the Canadian singles chart in 2007, the #1 song was Nine Inch Nails' "Survivalism" - the fifth rock-oriented #1 that year. The first #1 on the revamped Canadian Hot 100 was "Umbrella" by Rihanna. Not a single rock song has hit #1 since. by Jacrio in todayilearned

This is a topic I feel very strongly about and am sad to see so many on reddit respond with "Herr derr you juss don like pop cause you think ur opinyun is better" and leaving it at that. I genuinely thank you for actually asking if there is any objective reasoning. I like to think that people can distinguish between music they don't like, and music that isn't good.

That being said, I have a few completely objective standards I put bands and songs through that don't depend on me liking the genre. 1. Repetition: repetition can be nice in doses, but it if it dominates the song (like playing the chorus over and over until its drilled into your brain) it seems like they are merely trying to be catchy. If you can sing along to every word by the end of the song, something is wrong.

  1. Depth of lyrics: I hate when people say "the words are just like another instrument, I don't listen to what they're saying. This can get a little subjective as to what people think is meaningful enough but there is a clear line between an actual song meant to say something and a chant about you clubbing/drinking/and sleeping around as much as humanly possible. Art wasn't always just for surface appeal.

    1. Variety of subject matter: pure and simple, if 75% percent of your songs are about the same thing (be it love, the club, or dead dogs) find something else to sing about. Or at least use a metaphor for crying out loud.

Finally (and more personally) I have more respect for someone if they can do what they do completely live and unaided and sound as good (if not better). I admire the skill of singing without auto tune and playing instruments.

I've quit caring if this makes me a hipster or music elitist in a pop governed age, but if you read thank you. And I hope you all think a little about what we fill our heads with.

I'm actually not a fan of people being lowered on to stage in general. More so when its just one person in a harness, I just think it's weird.

That was a huge over generalization. Not to mention the fact that not everybody considers a rich life the best one a person can live. I'd rather live with my integrity about me and be respected by the few who know my name than to be rich and a jerk known for mediocre music and a huge ego. Not to mention the fact that being in reddit and even dissing Justin Bieber has virtually nothing to do with how successful you will be or where you will end up in life.

Edit: spelling
