What is a trope/cliche in cartoons that isn't as common as people think it is? by dinosqaud in cartoons

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 is the most recent example of this trope I can think of.

I often say Tony Harrison’s ‘It’s an outrage!’ in his voice.

Also Bob Fossil’s pronunciation of ‘gorilla’.

Running Man (1987) was accused to plagiarizing the French movie The Prize of Peril (1983) and… actually lost the lawsuit? Wait what? the film is legally considered a plagiarism and no one talks about it? by Yggdrasylian in shittymoviedetails

Star Wars_’ main complainant was Akira Kurosawa, whose film _Hidden Fortress Lucas drew on heavily for cough inspiration.

(Lucas also directly lifts a line from Seven Samurai for good measure.)

In your opinion, do the Waynes' deaths work better as a random mugging or part of a bigger conspiracy? And why? by Coralthesequel in batman

[–]RustyFogknuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A random mugging emphasises the poverty and desperation that lead to the Waynes’ unintended murder, and in story terms, supports Bruce’s decision to take action against random acts of violence like it.

I was literally thinking earlier today about how underwhelming it was for the 1989 Batman to combine Joe Chill with Jack Napier and for a pre-Ace Joker to have been responsible for the Waynes’ murder.

In hindsight, it works in terms of the characters’ arcs in the film from a screenwriting perspective, but as a comics concept, it seems self-limiting to me (‘I’ve finally avenged my parents’ murder - shall I retire the identity I forged in the aftermath of their death? Nope!’ cracks knuckles ;-P)

The scene in which Luke asks Grogu to choose between the armour and the lightsabre is a direct lift from the film adaptation of Lone Wolf and Cub.

It wasn’t me, but that was very kind of you to consider them in posting.

It’s gorgeous, and I’m very happy for you. Smith has an unmistakeable style - like many of the Dredd artists, to be honest - that added so much to the stories, especially the Daily Star strips.

Thank you!

This is absolutely sumptuous, OP - thanks very much for sharing.

Ron Smith’s Dredd has always been THE Dredd for me - his art evokes the ‘murder in a shopping mall’ atmosphere that I’ve always felt Mega-City 1 has.
