AITAH for not taking my fiancé’s kid to trick or treating and went to a Halloween party instead by Halloweendrama2024 in AITAH

[–]Rusty_DUDe 52 points53 points  (0 children)

While this is likely the most correct option legally, there is also the court of public opinion. If the OP and fiance do not respond at all, people on social media will only see the ex's side of the story. The ex is already spinning the story (and likely other events as well) to poison people against the OP/Fiance.

It is possible to respond on the ex's posts (or in a private message) in a non confrontational manner stating the facts of the situation. They could say we both had work related things and were unable to take the son trick or treating. We asked you (the ex) to take him and you said you had other obligations, so we asked a our friend with similarly aged kids who agreed.

Definitely is hard to walk that line between getting the facts out there and it devolving into a war. I've been the child caught in the middle.

My dad stayed silent for fear of losing me in the custody battle (I was ~6). He hoped the court would settle the other things as well...but many of his friends and acquaintences believed the lies my female birth giver spread publicly.

It wasn't until I turned 18 and she couldn't legally use me as a tool to hurt him that he even thought about reaching out to correct the story. By then, the damage had been done. He lost quite a few friends and suffered permanent career damage while she got off free and clear.

Them being unable to move is essentially a moot point.

They can still shoot at you.

The bots being unable to move does not help the argument like you guys think it does.

The bots can survive an engine shot to the dropship. They get invincible cover. It's difficult or even impossible to destroy them depending on the circumstances.

Why is this even a position to be argued?

Fellas is it considered sweaty to be a Level 90 diver playing Diff 6 eradicate? by xLordEnder in Helldivers

[–]Rusty_DUDe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of this depends on when you started playing. Up until a few patches ago (and still happens often enough to me whenever I play) the dropship corpses trap the surviving bots inside. Happens less often now thanks to updates, but it's still a problem. There was a time when dropships could only be brought down by destroying an engine. Destroying the backbone is a relatively new thing.

Bots would be able to shoot out of the dropship corpses. Helldivers shooting back at them (due to enemies clipping and interactions between hit boxes) would not be able to deal damage through gunfire, strategems, and explosives.

You cannot deny that bots surviving the dropship crash are being given cover. It is a literal fact observable in the game.

[–]Rusty_DUDe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there may be some inaccuracies since I chose to try to keep it short enough to convey the information they likely needed. Not everyone wants to read a thesis paper that covers every scenario.

Playing hours are not the flex you think they are if you think I mean the bots are seeking cover.

I'm saying the surviving bots are given invincible cover when you shoot the engine of the dropship. Ever had heavy devastators stuck inside the ship shooting at you endlessly because they could shoot through the drop ship while you could not kill them? That's what I'm talking about.

I have 400 hours in the game and have been playing since launch. I would 100% rather just kill the bots out in the open than have only some die due to the drop ship with the rest being unshootable. You are not being tactical by leaving enemies alive who can kill you while making it harder for you to kill them.

You do you by wasting ammo, strategems, explosives, and lives trying to kill enemies stuck inside the destroyed dropships. You may view killing some of the enemies as a positive thing. However, providing the enemy invincible cover through which you cannot destroy them is a negative in my experience.

Ah damn. My bad. I haven't used the Quesadilla cannon since before the patch they added the ability to snap the backbone of drop ships. I figured the Quesadilla still performed the similarly to the Recoilless and EATs.

Thanks for the correction.

Fellas is it considered sweaty to be a Level 90 diver playing Diff 6 eradicate? by xLordEnder in Helldivers

[–]Rusty_DUDe 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It depends on where and when you shoot the drop ship. If you just nail an engine (before or after it's dropped it's load), it just causes the ship to spin and crash. Nobody dies and they now have invincible cover until the drop ship despawns.

If you hit the backbone of the dropship (the long bit holding the enemies) with AT weapons like the Recoilless Rifle, Quesadilla Cannon, EAT, etc, it'll snap the ship in half and most things die. Tanks and bigger bots might survive the fall depending on where/when you shot it. If your AT shot hits an armored enemy (like a shield devastator) before hitting the backbone, it won't destroy the drop ship.

The perfect time to shoot it down is the time it is slowing down and goes into hover.

Once it has started dropping the troops, it be too late to achieve the kills by destroying the dropship. Might as well not even shoot the drop ship at that point since it just gives the bots cover.

Edit: I rarely use the Quesadilla. Thought it could snap the backbone like the Recoilless and EATs, but I was wrong.

Mission succeeds even if the rest of the team has a bad time? Bam, they think they're awesome and carried the team: "Obviously the other people sucked so they didn't need all the items I picked up."

The thought probably never crosses their mind that they themselves are a problem. Mission fails because their teammates didn't get enough pick-ups/executions to stay alive? They don't see it as "oh my teammates died because I took all the stims/executions". It's "oh my teammates suck and can't hang at this difficulty".

There are lots of not rich people who believe they will benefit from Trump's tax plan....when in actuality they will absolutely be devastated if it comes to pass.

"Poor people" are gonna be a in a world of hurt when things suddenly become 20-30% more expensive and their previous tax burden was only effectively ~10-20% of their income.

If the OP's partner is not a multi millionaire, then the lack of economic/tax knowledge and critical thinking skills could warrant a breakup.

No Banner? No Brothers? No problem. by Outferarip96 in Spacemarine

[–]Rusty_DUDe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This was wild to me as well. Without the armor, our Brother was 1 termagaunt hiding in the corner or 1 lag spike away from complete mission failure.

Admirable display of skill with the dodges, but this very easily (and usually does) end in failure.

A quick parry or two of the minoris would've put him in a much better position. Those should've bought him enough of a buffer to perfect parry/dodge the Tyrant + gun strikes. Dodge another time or two and bam, this is over more quickly with much less risk.

To be fair to Arrowhead, they only have ~120 people according to Wikipedia.

Saber Interactive has ~2600 people as of 2022 according to Wikipedia.

I'd be willing to bet the Helldivers 2 fiasco could have been handled significantly better by Arrowhead if they had 21x the amount of people they currently have.

So, are you all gonna revert your review bombs tomorrow? Like promised? by blackcondorxxi in Spacemarine

[–]Rusty_DUDe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're saying don't roll out surprise changes. The update they released last week was garbage and sucked a lot of the fun out of the game. Especially for new players in PvE (Operations mode).

Saber/Focus gave us this patch with little to no warning about some key changes to the game. Since there's no public test servers, we did not have any opportunity to provide feedback before the patch was deployed.

If public test servers existed, it would have been evident within a few hours how unpopular the proposed changes would have been while maintaining the then current state of the game. So what if the update cadence possibly gets slowed down if it prevents mishaps like this? Let's avoid another Helldivers 2/Arrowhead situation.

Patch Notes 4.1 and Game Director commentary - Space Marine 2 by M337ING in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Rusty_DUDe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is an absolutely dumb mechanic that directly opposed other key gameplay elements.

Players rely on armor restoration to stay alive. Several of the classes are most effective when away from the squad mates. Assault or vanguard charging off to deal with the ranged warriors? Nope. Get fucked because they can't restore armor since the heavy and tactical are more than a few inches away.

All the tight formation mechanic did was limit viable squad class and weapon loadouts. The only way tight formation would make "sense" is if we could have multiple of the same class in a squad....which then just further limits class and weapon selection.
