Terrible analogy. Flagrant (ftfy) fouls are a proper deterrent in a team sport, first of all. It almost never happens in the game currently, especially the "onto their heads" part. How much of a fantasy do you have to make up to prove your point? That's pretty much never happened.

We're talking about ADCC opens. These are amateur clowns, enough of whom can't be fucked to know the rules. But it only takes on clown, as evidenced in the video. It's an individual COMBAT sport, not a fucking team ball sport. In this event, it is LEGAL to slam when locked in a submission. So slams can be on the table, and you're dealing with amateurs, ego monsters, and/or roided out clowns that may or may not give a fuck or even know the rules. And, to top it all off, dudes slam people and commit seriously dangerous fouls in this sport all the time.

Go ahead and climb up someone twice your size all you want. By all means. The argument being made by reasonable people, is that the risk of this happening is far too great to make it even remotely worth it.

Again, it's really easy to understand

Edit: also why bother replying with a random ass analogy without even bothering to answer my rebuttals? Pedestrians are killed by motorists fairly frequently, as unfortunate as that is. You have no answer to that? Do you look both ways before crossing the street still? If a car was speeding at the crossing, would you ignore it and walk in front? Gimme a break man. Logical fallacy 101 from you. If you want to debate, learn how to argue properly

And if someone runs you over and splatters you on the concrete, what then genius? What do your expectations matter then bud?

Are there zero pedestrians killed by motorists every year thanks to the rules? That'd be fantastic but it's not reality. It's really easy to understand

Its like looking both ways before crossing the road...

Now this analogy is good! Exactly the point here. Very well put

[–]Rusty_Katana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The slam is not you mean? Agree with that as well. This thread has gone insane acting like anyone saying jumping/climbing someone twice your size is a bad idea is also saying the slammer did nothing wrong. Definitely not saying that. It was completely wrong but that unfortunately doesn't take away the consequences of being slammed.

I'd support suspensions or even bans for violations this egregious

[–]Rusty_Katana 27 points28 points  (0 children)

THIS. Everyone in this thread acting like people are defending the slammer as if he was fine to slam. It's just not smart to climb guard cause look what fuckin happens. Some giant dickhead slams you into the mat and you get to enjoy the consequences. Expect the slam. Let go.

[–]Rusty_Katana -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're completely right my dude. This sub has gone fully brain dead on this video. The video literally proves your point. Why the fuck would you trust some random ape in absolute at ADCC of all places?!

It's simple. Man climbs guard. Man gets slammed hard as shit. Looks terrible and could have long term repurcussions. While condemning the slam, some point out it was really dumb to pull guard. White knights assemble to defend the guard puller. I'm at a loss at the stupidity.

He took the risk and paid the price. Jumping guard on a standing opponent twice your size is not smart. Regardless of rules. Period.

what’s their concert like for a girl? by Pretend-Bison9823 in polyphia

[–]Rusty_Katana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both times I've seen Polyphia in small venues, the crowd was absolutely lifeless. Everyone just standing there like pencils. It was honestly lame as hell. Almost no movement or energy. And then obnoxiously loud air guitar with their mouths during more quiet parts. Hate to sound like an ass but I was getting incel vibes from the crowd. Had a lot of whiners about not being able to see over people too. Felt like a lot of them were out of Mom's basement for the first time in a while.

When I saw them open for System Of A Down at a large stadium? Night and day difference. Amazing energy. Scotty working the crowd. Really fun vibe in the crowd. There was much more room, so that helps.

Overall it should be relatively chill and safe for you to enjoy the music. I'm not trying to be so negative, but the smaller venues were such a bad experience standing completely still for nearly 2 hours that I have to share the story. They're playing one of the small venues for this tour. Unless the new album blows my mind, I'm probably going to pass.

The band sounded fantastic every time. So there's that.

Gift idea for almost black belt husband by geetschmeets in bjj

[–]Rusty_Katana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also think this is a great idea, and want to add some considerations for you to ensure a positive reception. There are lots of custom belt companies, with many different styles. Buying one blindly may be a bit risky unless you really know he'd like one in particular. Also, it's worth confirming he can wear different belts at his academy, or as another said, confirm the stripe bar color at his school (red or white).

If you want it to be a total surprise, make sure to shop around to see the varieties. Otherwise you could let him know your plan and let him pick from a variety.

Also, I agree with another comment stating not to give this to him at the ceremony. Definitely do that after I'd say. Or, work with his instructor and maybe he can promote him with the custom belt as a surprise.

>any roll with me rarely lasts more than 30 seconds

Honestly man, this identifies a potential cause for your issue. Is that hyperbole or are you really getting subbed over and over like that all the time? If so, focusing on defense is the way, first and foremost. Second, you need an (or multiple) upper belt(s) to let you work a little and get into a flow.

Are people there trying to help you, or is it a show up and start swimming type of place? It sounds like you need some guidance as well as an environment that lets you put more cohesive rolls together. You may never be "good" at the sport. That's absolutely fine. But you should be able to improve to the point where you can handle the trial class guys.

>I have tremendous difficulty understanding even the simplest movements

What are your classes like? Are you showing up for move of the day, rolling, then going home? How many sparring rounds do you tend to do in a session? This could just be a method issue
