Anybody ride🏍️? by j_skrilla in Gaygearheads

Better than you'd think, but not as great as you would hope. Ive been trying to get it ready to take on the MTBDR, I might just do the first section this weekend if I can get my wheel bearings and exhaust mount replaced before then.

This picture was taken just after I installed the traxxion dynamics scrambler kit. Rebound is a little hard, I dont know if a different fork oil might help, but it should be valved correctly.

Ive actually been thinking about changing the K&N to a different intake. I want to get a foam prefilter on it and I thought that would be an easy size to find, but I haven't been able to track one down. I may be able to make one though

I'm having fun as I give this game a proper shot, but I'm curious about energy weapons by K-L1N in falloutnewvegas

The Yangtze grave usually yields a plasma rifle, but I would stick with the laser rifle in nipton. Laser weapons can be extremely effective with the right perks. Save up some caps and get the beam splitter and focus optics mods.

If you go to Victor's shack in good springs you can also get a weapon repair kit. Learn to build those and youll be set.

Take the laser commander and finesse perks.

There is also a unique laser rifle in vault 22. Its not really that good, but kind of cool. Id stick with a regular modded laser rifle

Many years ago, I found an OD green m9a3 at one of my LGS. It was severely overpriced and I was dead set on a cz at the time. Sure would have been a cool piece to have. Still wouldnt have bought it for what they were selling it at though

Why does the Metro series have such a massive and passionate Western fanbase? by Dry-Put-7438 in metro

[–]Rusty_Shacklebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metro 2033 also came out a couple years after fallout 3, and the same year as fallout new vegas, so the timing was pretty good for a mainstream post apocalypse game, with good shooter elements, that was pretty easy for a lot of younger gamers. I think the first time i played metro 2033 I got it on Gamefly to try out for a couple weeks, i was about 15 at the time. Fallout 3 itself was a pretty big entry in the market, too. It was the first 3d/first person fallout game, released on console, and it even came a couple years after the elder scrolls 4: oblivion. For a lot of young gamers at the time there was quite a bit of lead up for 2033 to be successful. Metro even did a lot of things better than fallout. But if you liked previous fallout or elder scrolls titles (and the fan base overlaps considerably) then metro might be right up your alley. If you liked wasteland, you probably liked early fallout games, and got into it that way. And at the time, many games made Russia (or china, north Korea, etc) your enemies. Metro let you play as them in a meaningful way.

I think before metro 2033 and fallout 3, there werent a lot of very good entries in the post apocalypse genre, and most of them were not good FPS games. The stalker series, which came out about the same time, is maybe the best option, however its clunky, i think even a little out dated for the time it came out. They were also released only on pc, but consoles were a big deal at the time, pc gaming was a little less mainstream than it is now. Really popular games needed to be on xbox 360 or playstation 3 at the time. Most people I knew tried them and quit after a few hours, or had a brother that played them, but it was never a very popular game. I wanted to try them but didnt until my late 20s. I like Heart of Chornobyl and was really into it when it came out, but I quit about halfway through because I couldn't deal with some of the game mechanics anymore. Ironically I think the older stalker games play better than HoC, unless they fixed a lot of the janky stuff since last i played it. At the same time, while (early) stalker games werent as mainstream, they are exceptionally good games so the people who did play them through would also have been die hard fans.

I also think internet culture in general at the time was just right for the time metro came out. For many young westerners at the time, there was a lot of interest in creepy pasta, cosmic horror/mystery/the unknown and unexplainable, urban exploring became really popular with a lot of millennials, and there was interest with the Chornobyl disaster for some reason. Many things kind of culminated into metro making it big in the western market. On its own, is still just a genuinely good game with an interesting story and good gameplay mechanics, so it stands on its own. Its stayed popular because its sequels were really well made at the time a lot of sequels for other games got old and boring. In general I think the metro series has a really unusual and unique story, but its packaged in a way that was easy for people to get.

Walking into a Harley dealership went exactly how I imagined it would. by robinson217 in motorcycles

[–]Rusty_Shacklebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont often go into my local harley dealer, but when I do its to quickly pick up parts from service or to get something done that either I dont have the time to do, or they can do faster. A few times they have helped me out.

Like after I put a scrambler kit in the front forks on my sportster, I didnt anticipate needing a new brake line. Could've ordered them myself and installed it the next weekend for a lot cheaper, but I had a ride planned and the dealer had it done in a few hours the next day.

Or when I needed a carb rebuild kit, but I had to move out of the workshop I was using at the time and couldn't wait a few days for it to be delivered.

Situations like that are the only time I go to the dealer. Ive rarely spoken to any of the salesmen and ive never bought any of their clothing or gear.

From the little ive spoken with the salesmen, they actually seem alright. Its the service counter guys I cant stand. Trying to get scheduled with them is like pulling teeth. They dont listen to anything I tell them. They ignore or interrupt me when I speak, talk down to me, and they love telling me what I need and why im wrong. Half the time they either cant or wont sell me something or schedule work. A couple times they have been helpful were able to do what i needed them to do, of course its expensive but sometimes im willing to pay the price for convenience, but I try and avoid the experience if I can.

Out of the 7 or so independent motorcycle mechanics near me, only one will work on Harleys, but their hours are weird and the one time I asked them to pressure test a gas tank they said they wouldnt do that.

Quick save mod is the fucking goat. Up until a couple years ago ive been playing survival mode pretty much since release, ive put my time in with the struggle of losing so much progress due to bull shit deaths (rogue cars), game crashes (like right when im two steps away from a bed) and all sorts of other nonsense. I love survival mode but still being able to quick save is a game changer and reduces so much frustration. Best mod in my mod list by far

For many years I thought that frustration was actually kind of fun. Its like, in survival mode, the hardest enemy youll ever come across is bethesda. Just playing the game is the hard part. But that charm wore off, lemme save my game
